I was aware of the crowdfunding campaign at the time, but it seemed like a herculean task to create a company which would last over the long-term. I do have an account with them now for some of my email. I do really like the way their hide-my-email service works.

Cost is minimal for the knowledge that they are giving us Security! A great product and a fantastic review! p.s. the fact that it is run from CERN does give it a lot of extra added value!

@@AllThingsSecured I think even proton told activists to use TOR instead I know they amended their policies afterwards. "As usual, the devil is in the details-ProtonMail's original policy simply said that the service does not keep IP logs "by default." However, as a Swiss company, ProtonMail was obliged to comply with a Swiss court's demand that it begin logging IP address and browser fingerprint information for a particular ProtonMail account."

I think Proton took the high road with their PR in this case. They could have said "hey people...we can't do everything for you. You need to actually use privacy best practices if you actually want to be private!" Instead, they just told people to be more careful because guess what - your IP address is the easiest thing for anybody to discover. Encrypted email isn't designed to hide your IP address. It's designed to encrypt your messages. Do you think they failed at that?

@@AllThingsSecured Best practical for me is a VPN that doesn't require login details or email and has anonymous pay through monero or cash. Mullvad and IVPN do this (I use IVPN do to the fact that they are domiciled out side of 13 eyes) . Anything super sketchy which I don't do anyway would be TOR all the way.
