So the clone army was a massively effective force against the dominant in size droid army. This is primarily because, despite being greater in number, the droid army had the disadvantage of each droid being far less powerful and intelligent than the clones. Part of what made the clones so strong of an opposing force was their armour, which provided various benefits. Outside of the most obvious benefit, which is protection, not only by spreading out and subduing the energy of blaster fire, but also from environmental harms like acid, the armour also contained built-in communication systems, automatically adjusting environmental filters, and even in some cases night vision.
The phase 1 armor was a lot more basic, making it hard to move around effectively and wasn’t as packed full of gear like the phase 2 armor. For this reason, it costed around 2,000 credits per set. This was the armour used at the beginning of the clone wars, and a lot of the early conflicts suffered republic casualties due to the drawbacks of the armour - in particular in the first battle of geonosis.
The upgraded and new iteration, phase 2 armour, had so many improvements but still stayed relatively cheap at only 3,000 credits. These had more manoeuvrability while offering stronger protection against blaster fire and shrapnel. While both phases of armour were constructed from plates of plastoid, the phase 2 featured more dense concentrations of the material around vital areas.
