Hey Chris, submitting on Scapeism doesn't work for me. Did you change it back to Petscord submissions?
My betta died 2 weeks ago, and i decided to use the tank as a shrimp tank. I bought 5 red cherry shrimps and they did an amazing job in cleaning the anubias within 24 hours.

You can boil water for 15-20mins to remove chlorine in a pinch. However I dont reccomend it unless you know what is in your water. Your local water treatment plant might use chloramine instead of chlorine which can only be neutralized with a dechlorinator. Just make it easy on yourself and use a dechlorinator. Also, those poor goldfish were definitely in shock. They weren't hungry at all. 😢

For chloramine, you can also use a bubbler to break it down and remove it from the water. However, I recommend at least 24-48 hours per gallon or so a 5 gallon bucket can take a week or more to fully remove the chloramine

People go to _crazy_ expensive lengths to "purify" their tap water ...but won't buy a $15 pack of test strips to find out what's actually in it 😂
Hey I just wanted to say that when I was 13 I almost bought a Betta to keep in a vase with a plant as a filter (I just googled can you keep a Betta in a jar, and the articles said yes) but then I got your video on Betta care recommended and ended up returning the vase and not getting a fish :)

The saddest part is they didn't even go for the food after!! 😰 Goldies are MASSIVE food-hogs, and (even though they shouldn't have to) are hardy enough to live through immense amounts of stress... When a goldfish isn't hungry, that's a sure sign it's on its way out soon I'd bet money those fish died like, just a few hours later...😕

This is so bingeworthy!!! ❤ I just got back into aquaculture after 10+ years, used to be quite serious in the hobby, and dude, I love your approach! Also, that girl with the first tank, all I'm thinking is PLEASE SWEETY LET ME HELP YOU! Look at the care she's actually taking - she's super thorough, but she somehow has no idea that she's actively killing her little friends. With that cleaning focus and attention pointed in the right direction and armed with just rudimentary knowledge she would be an actual goldstar fishkeeper in no time. Please let me at her - and let's save those poor behbehs! 😢

As an axolotl owner and having to keep the water at 60 degrees seeing the boiling water sent chills down my spine
For the boiled-water-in-freezer Thing, the idea is to have sterilized water for your fish tank. I forgot what was said exactly, but supposedly placing boiled water instantly in the freezer gives you a more steriled water solution than simply boiling it. Though it may be a good way to get rid of pathogens and the such (as well as kill your fridge/freezer), it doesn't eliminate certain minerals or other components from the water that could still harm the fish.

Even as a first-time aquarium keeper with NO research many years ago, I didn't do anything that unbelievably horrendous. Makes me feel a bit less bad about some of the things I DID do before I educated myself. Yikes!
I think the purpose of boiling water and cooling it in the freezer before putting it in the tank was their version of adding distilled water... boiling it does get rid of any additives but obviously was not the way to do this lol.

Dear God that "cleaning" maybe the boiling made the chlorine evaporate faster. Might be an interesting research experiment. Most likely, it was done to "sanitize" the water though. Just God. Favorite boardgame is either Mancala or pente. Mancala is just super relaxing with sound, smell, sight and touch forming this kinda zen mode. Pente is like a cross between tic tac toe and go.

Its called survivor bias. Those people kill a lot of fish, and once in a million they get a fish or two that are naturally very resilient. They dont think that its them that killed the fish so they dont remember/speak about the whole fish graveyard they could populate, they just think they are brilliant fishkeepers. You dont see millions of fish that died, they are not there.

One 8th grade science teacher is actually really cool. He was a sub for us and took us to his class. He had like a 30 or 40 gallon tank WITH LIVE PLANTS and it had 2 goldfish and 5 small schooling fish. He had another 5 or 10 gallon tank with sand, live plants, nice wood scape, and it only was stocked with vampire shrimp!! Both looked really well maintained too!

I am so glad I found this channel. Every aquarium and fish keeper community I found so far is either the most elitist aqua scaper group, which's members almost spit on another person if they find out no co2, or top best fertilizer in the tank, or dare to put in anything bigger than a cherry shrimp or endler guppy in the tank, because that needs extra work and calculations in nutrients, or the ones who believe good fish keepers are the ones who export their fancy expensive huge fishes and seeing a tank they instantly size up what is the biggest fish they can shove into. Here I hear what I always believed was right. Best is the natural, with wood and stone and living plant, and trying to keep everything as natural and balanced as possible. Big tank means more small schooling fish, and more space for them. Where I live everyone believes cory fishes are for the beginners and the lazy, because hard to kill and clean up the "real" decorative fishes. To hell with those, corys are the best. They are cute, and have personality.
I have the exact fishtank at the first although instead of putting a fish in it I turned it into a terrarium with a few plants and isopods.
Not a board game, but I loved to play BS with my friends during school. It’s a card game where you try to get rid of all your cards, and when you put them down they’re face-down, so no one can see what they are, and they have to take your word or call BS. I was pretty good at it because I was so quiet and unassuming.
Best I can think of for the first water change is like. "Hmm I've heard that boiling water purifies it, let's put it in the freezer to cool it down, easy peasy" And my friends and I love Quiplash!

Favorite board game… idk, there’s so many options! I do agree with you on code names, that’s a good one. pegs and jokers, exploding kittens, unstable unicorns, the chameleon, so many options!!! I can’t choose!
The sigma background music is killing me lmao
I’m new the the hobby and my first tank recorded around 0.8 mg/l chlorine even though I did the water changes, used dechlorinator and even left it for a few days to see if it will get better on it’s own. It didn’t I’m going to try boiling the water for 15 mins and use dechlorinator after it has cooled, probably going to leave it in the same room as my fish for a few days to match the temp.

Codenames is a riot. I’m a big fan of Catan and Ticket to Ride.
I'm being "gifted" my aunts 3.5 gallon tank she had a betta in but passed away, last year. She hasnt emptied it since and it is about half full of water that's evaporated, fairly clear water but brown spots here and there, fake plants, 3 petrified moss balls in there, a little heater stick, a lid, LEDs and the filter looks good as its completely dried out now, how can I "fix" it? And what can I put in here? I was thinking just cherry shrimp but it is a halfcircle tank with a more vertical space than floor space so Im unsure and don't know what fish would fit or do well, and plants? I'm doing some research since i havent owned fish before but there's a lot of contradicting advice out there!
I've been researching aquariums and wanted to start with just snails + cherry shrimp and add fish like guppies at a later time but I keep reading that the guppies might eat the shrimp. Is it a bad idea or could I still give it a shot? I want a lot of plants so they'll have plenty of hiding space but I'm not sure if that's enough.
