It's called a "blanket party". We did a VERY toned down blanket party on one of the guys in my barracks when I was in BCT (FT Jackson SC 1999) because he kept waking up late; leaving dust bunnies and coat hangers on the floor and the rest of us were getting into trouble for not "squaring him away". Our DS even hinted that we should do a blanket party but without coming right out and saying he (he said "I know y'all seen Full Metal Jacket"). Apparently back home he was used to his mommy picking his trash behind him. So we put rolled up socks inside socks (instead of the way it's usually done - a bar of soap either in a sock or towel) - it wasn't nearly as brutal as what you saw in FMJ but it got the point across. Probably because we told him "next time it won't be socks", from that day forward he got up on time and quit leaving trash all over the floor. For the record... there is no such thing as "too much Full Metal Jacket" unless you're a candy ass; cake eating civilian.

The DI's "mild" language is due to the fact that this was an official Navy film we aviation recruiters showed potential candidates in the mid-1970s to get them better prepared for Aviation Officer Candidate School. The film was called "No Points for Second Place." I remember it well.

We all wondered why he was so hard on us and had similar questions...now that we are in the field, we see how every little thing he got on us about plays into our safety, precision and professionalism on the job. There is a clear difference for the better in the guys who had Instructor W. We see him now and again and thank him all the time.

They can only show so much in a video to prepare college kids to get ready or else. That's where these clips are from, a video called "Pressure Point" to let officer candidates know what to expect or not bother trying at all. My class in '89 stated with about 80 candidates. Just over 50 were left after the "NAMI whammy" flight physicals, and only about 15 remained to graduate after the rest dropped.

Sgt. Word was the craziest and the best; it was the first and only time I ever saw "Ghost Rider" in-person--when he got started, steam was coming off his head--smoke came later--then came the flames.

GySgt Holt only has 4 ribbons at the end of the video with no National Defense Medal. This video is from the '80s or early '90s before Desert Storm. I was on Active Duty from April 1996 to April 2000 and I got out with 4 ribbons and no National Defense Medal.

awesome example of taking a civilian and orienting them to the military. Even though this DI was stern he was knowledgeable and fair on discipline and reward by comment. I think the psychology of a DI or DS is awesome. Not a place for people who dont want to do what must be done for the team mission or in honor of the oath... if you cant follow the leaders then your not needed and theres shame behind that but im just sayin...this was great...watched it 3times

Thank you so much for your comment of how great and fortunate they are. So many people have such negative comments and making fun of this video. You are a true American and it's appreciated.
