There's tons of charisma and character (just checked some of their old live videos) and on the same token, you could say the same about The Ramones, for example. But I understand you, I used to not get it either, now changed my view on them. (Then it's of course a matter of tastes...)

This is probably the best live version I’ve seen of ‘Mad Daddy’ and excellent visual and audio quality! I recently heard an interview with Lux and Ivy. ‘Mad Daddy’ was actually inspired by a radio DJ in Cleveland named Pete Myers who went by Pete ‘Mad Daddy’ Myers. Lux loved the radio show he put on back in the 50’s (late 50’s I believe). Thank you so much for sharing this. RIP Lux and much love to Ivy, the Queen of rock n’ roll! 🌹

I've seen thousands of bands. I'm lucky enough to have seen them 3 times... I think they were incapable of putting on anything but an astoundingly authentic staggeringly artistic... and just flat out cool show. Not only that but Lux and Ivy were/are astute musical historians.

Same saw them 3x when I was in high school in 82, 83 & 86. I used to see Lux & Ivy on Melrose always the coolest of couples. Dressed to the nines. Ivy was so badass.

Lux was from Akron Ohio. We used to listen to Mad Daddy on Cleveland Radio aroung 58-59, Then Mad Daddy was on TV with a monster movie show Friday nights. But he pumped his stats so much A big New York Market picked him up and he made a lot more money. Ernie Anderson took over the Friday night show as Ghoulardi . Who in a way still rules north east Ohio. Ernie was later the voice of ABC, That deep voice telling you the LUUUV Boat was coming on next.

Yep, AM radio personality Pete Myers joined New York’s 1010 WINS around that time, to do an adult MOR show. About 1961, WINS flipped to rock ‘n’ roll, and Myers reverted to his “Mad Daddy” personna, and was fantastic. He was in competition with Murray the K, Cousin Bruce Morrow, Scott Muni and B. Mitchell Reed, among other NYC radio giants.
