Yes agreed that car was a few short steps away from the scrap and I don’t think the money you’re selling it for is excessive considering all the work it’s had done and probably all the running around involved. Profit is not the same as rip off.

I used to be an avid watcher of Wheeler Dealers (up until Ed China left). And when they were working on the cars and putting everything right I was thinking THIS is how used car dealers should be, repairing or replacing things which are clearly showing signs of age. In other words NOT spending all their time trying to cover up defects while falsely claiming everything is "in very good condition for its age sir". But I thought at the time there is no such dealer anywhere like that, and never will be, that behaviour is 'dyed in the wool'. Enter Matt - YOU are that mythical car dealer! and from all I can gather is someone that anyone would like to buy a used car from, and when that one needs changing, will come back for another one. Well Done Matt, that car is worth every penny of what you are asking. 👌😉

The price is totally fair for a V8 luxury saloon that is sorted. It's great to see a car dealer genuinely sort a car before selling it, instead of just doing cheap fixes here and there just to make a quick profit for the expense of the customer.

As you were reeling off what you spent on the Jaaaag , I was thinking a jag lover would give you 4 to 4.5k for that now , when you think though you paid professionals to do it for you , a lot of those jobs ( not all like the wheels ) could have been done quite easily by the man in the street really. Well done for saving it .

I have a Colt for sale, 2005. Chap called and said 'That's well over book price for that year and model!' I said, If you think that's expensive, wait until you buy a cheap one..' I'd spent well over £1500 (garage prices) on getting it near perfect. Sailed through the MOT. Cheap cars are fine if you can do a great deal of the work yourself properly, but garage costs will turn any bargain into a wallet-opener.

Just bought a 2008 V6 3.2L Jag S type. Here in the US, they are not very common. In fact, my car was quite difficult to find. It only has 65,000 miles on it so you would think it would have been well cared for since the warranty only expired 5,000 miles ago. I paid double (in USD) what you paid. It will probably cost me another $2,000 USD to give it the care that the previous owner neglected. It needed new brakes, a new spare tire, a working turn signal which I negotiated with the dealership to correct. There are various minor fluid leaks (seals, etc) that my mechanic is going to correct for me. I will be giving it proper maintenance on a schedule. It's a beautiful, classic car which really stands out from the sea of Mercedes and BMWs we have here in southern California. Looking forward to owning this car the rest of my life!

Thought your S Type looked well worth saving particularly as its a V8 with a nice spec. You have done a great job restoring it to its former glory and I'm glad you kept it original. I'm sure most Jag lovers will appreciate the time and money you have invested in it to get it to such a high standard. Think its well worth 4.5k and if the new owner looks after it and perhaps gets it rust proofed it should have years of service left in it. Only a matter of time before these become modern classics and then the values will increase - so a win win really!

After 30,000 miles, service at each MoT (including oil change), de rusting of sills and subframe, some paint rectifications and general TLC it remains a fast, quiet and comfortable car. Not worth a lot but I can still buy (subject to supply) lots of fuel for the price of a new Micra! Good video. Thanks.

You have given this car a new lease of life but when you explain the costings your profit margins are not that good. I’ve always loved these Jaguars. I remember my dad getting one when I was just a kid - the speed at which that 4.2 V8 took off when he pushed the great big S button on the centre console blew my 12 year old mind. The credit crunch and cost of petrol ultimately led to him selling it on, a real shame because it was such a nice car. You can pick the smaller engine ones up for pennies nowadays! This video has me scouring eBay!

Just the fact that you gave us your personal costs and what you hoped you could sell it for is admirable. Not many do that. That is what stands you out.Thanks.

I thought you’d spent money hand over fist for the sake of it but it’s nice to know you’ve still got a margin for some profit. Obviously you know what you’re doing and the car looks great.

Looks lovely, I’ve got to get all disks pads and tyres for my 2000 S-type ready for winter. Completely not worth it financially , but definitely worth it to keep it on the road..

Hmm, you've almost got me wanting one now! Great car, great video - lots of work done that usually goes unseen (or unconsidered), for what is a relatively modest profit.

The mesh-type grille is what the S Type-R’s had from the factory. My former Boss also installed the mesh type grille along with the leaping cat on the bonnet on his 2000 model S type some years ago, The chrome door mirror covers you have weren’t from the factory for that early model S type either.

Thank you for saving a car that no one else would even care about. Here in America people are looking for excellent examples of older vehicles from the early 2000's especially the Nissan Pathfinder, 4Runner and other well built and rugged SUV's of that time.

Well done you 👍 As an owner of a 2000 3.0 ltr one you’ve done a great job with the car and l like the channel and honesty. Your profit margin of less then £800 for all the running around and risk you took buying it in the first place is peanuts! You also debunk that ALL used car salesmen are Arthur Dailys……untruthful, sneaky, lying fookers! Which in my 50 years of buying cars THEY ARE I’m afraid!!!! It’s in their bloodstream to be so 🤔

You're closing comments reminded me of something I read years ago Matt. 20 Americans at a bus stop in Chicago were drenched in the rain by a Rolls-Royce wafting past! The consensus of those awaiting public transport was..... "One day I'm going to have one of those!. A similar scenario in Birmingham?.the response was? Who does he think he is ... Needs taking down a peg or two, disgruntlement to the N th. Sounds about right still! Loved my "S" type by the way! Albeit a 2.7 D... Great car and we still miss it!

I'd love the jag especially with the work put in . That gorgeous soundtrack is nearly justifying the 16MPG round town. Would expect an enthusiast to snap it up and continue to keep it burbling along nicely . Thanks for sharing costs etc . Interesting to know how tight margins are even when it's done right.

Thank you for a really enjoyable trip. I have a 2004 E class Mercedes saloon that I feel is an old friend, because I bought it a year before I retired, it only has 50k on the clock. I have recently been offered £600 pounds for it as a part exchange. My car is stunning, comfortable, reliable, well cared for, so I know exactly how you feel about your jag. I have also learnt something important about you. Your a good man! Well done.
