hey eric, I just thought I'd pop in here to say that at 8:44 you missed mate in 3 by playing Qe8+ you pointed out the obvious smothered mate possibility but didn't calculate beyond what happens if king takes because then you have Nf6+ the king has 2 possibilities now, either it moves back which runs into Nf7# or it goes to f8 where it runs into Bh6# anyway, really cool game and awesome opening, but I couldn't let this awesome mate in 3 go unmentioned

6:37 there is a beautiful combination starting with Nxc7+ deflecting the bishop. If Kd8 there's Nxf7+ Kxc8 Qxd6#. If instead of Kd8 Ke7 Nd5+ Ke7 Nxd6+ Kd8 and Qf8#. And if after Nxc7 Ke7 there is Nd5 back with complete destruction (at least), but most lines lead to checkmate combined with d3 too.

At 2:38 Eric says "Oh...Black can do this!" which makes it _sound_ like he's figuring everything out in real time...but after that, he declares that "this is the main trap of the Quade variation", which sounds like he's quite familiar with the theory. I think this might be one of Eric's famous tricks, where he "feeds" his stream-sniping opponent the idea that he's made a mistake, in order to lure 'em into the desired trap.

Super cool line and with perfect play leads to an interesting endgame where black is down pawn count but has an extra piece by trapping the white knight. In this game black had to play d6 to maintain an advantage but the second he played bishop d6 it gave a huge advantage to white. I love this kind of gambits because in most lines it is so easy to mess up on either side.

Hey, I have a doubt. In the minute 10:17, black could’ve played pawn to c6, leaving an escape for his king and perhaps they could’ve gotten away with that mate, but I’m not fully sure if that works since we have Knight action there too. Correct me if I’m wrong. Also, English is not my first language so I apologize in case there are any mistakes. Thanks.

For those who know chess, I have a question. A couple weeks ago, my friend and I (who both suck at chess) played an over the board game. I was playing as white and was down badly. I had lost all my queen side pawns and hadn’t taken anything of his yet. Eventually we reached this position with white to move: 2k2bnr/pp1r2p1/2ppQpb1/4p2p/B1R1P1PB/3q1N1P/n2N1P2/5RK1. The rest of the game went as follows: Rxc6+ bxc6 Bxc6 Bf7 Qxd7+ Kb8 Qd8# How bad did my friend mess up and what could he have done differently?

regardless of the material advantage black has in this position, white has a far greater advantage in terms of development. black's dark square bishop and one of their knights is completely unactivated and useless. even the light squared bishop is somewhat trapped due to the closed nature of the position. castling queenside was probably also a bad idea for black. in the future your friend should pay attention to their development and not just tunnel vision on pawns because it will end up being detrimental to them

Dont think so coz after nf3 the queen has no good way to stop the bishop checking

when you say at 9:52 you trap him, its false. moving knight to f6 gives him the oppertunity to escape by pion to c6/5; you get a lot of pieces of the board but its not a trapped mate.

6:50 isn't taking the knight with the bishop just leads to mate in one with Qf8?

9:08 I think you could move the Knight on d5 to f6, Qe8, and then Knight e5 to f7 Edit : nvm you did it ❤😂
