Holly is actually the 6th book. You got the Bill Hodges trilogy, The Outsider, a short story in If It Bleeds, then finally Holly. Definitely a lot more to grasp if you read the other 5

I think literature serves a greater purpose than good representation or offering content warnings (examples of current cultural trends). The best literature I have read is both unafraid of and carefully tease out human depravity and the bleak mundanity of our existence. I know Stephen King is not considered "high art" but, regardless, I don't think authors owe their readers a pleasant experience or need to explain their "bad behaviour" in books (something Hanya Yanagihara, author of "A Little Life" is often accused of).

i just learned about his book "rage", THAT might be his most controversial book

It’s just a novella, and it’s really not about what you’d think. He just stopped publishing it after Columbine (I believe). There’s not really any controversy, he just chose to stop it. It is about a kid with a gun on a school, but he only kills a teacher that bullied him. The students were safe

Yes! I actually have a copy of rage one of his bachmann books. It's definitely considered controversial in the sense that it's the only book SK regrets writing...
