Underground tunnels in Disney are a thing. They were used so that Disney characters could always be "in character" and they morphed out of the various doors that were elaborately disguised so that guests never even notice because it's not visible to the untrained eye. Also, employees need a place to change costumes, go on break, have something to eat, etc. Those things can't possibly happen above ground taking up the space of guests and the rides and endless things to do. It's brilliant and innovative.

Living in the country, I actually did witness the “water hoses bury themselves” thing, we always had to remember to bring the hose off of the grass because if we didn’t it’s start burying itself for zero reason. Now that I think about it it does seem really weird, back when I lived in the country we kinda just all accepted it as a thing that just happens and that isn’t weird...but speaking from experience, I have had to deal with hoses that were left out for like a day, just because someone left them out, and the strangest part is even after only a day, the grass would just be wrapped around the hose in some areas.

there's actually an emerging consensus on who the sea people were now. the only real record we have of them is from the egyptians because they were the only civilisation out of like 5 or 6 who the sea people didn't destroy. supposedly, they were migratory tribes from central and western europe, particularly italy, who were pushed out of their homes by famine. it is likely they heard about the riches of the east from merchants. they were kind of a proto-vikings, not a coordinated group and vanished by either assimilating with the local populations or migrating back into italy. archeological findings have found that carvings of horned men have been found in italy, much like how many sea people fought in horned helmets. p.s. love your videos

Yep, some of them were likely Italian in origin, specifically from the Po Valley. There were also the Shardana of Sardinia. Though, there were also the ones from Anatolia and the Aegean. The Philistines are written in the Bible as coming from “Caphtor”, an island in the Mediterranean. In other civilizations’ records, this island also shows up with a similar name; “Keftiu.” This name is theorized to be the ancient name of the island of Crete, the home of the Minoans and at the time of the Bronze Age Collapse a population of Mycenaeans. When the Sea Peoples battled with the Egyptians on the Nile Delta, one of the defeated sea peoples were the Peleset. These Peleset were relocated by the Egyptians to Canaan, who granted them the grand city of Megiddo. Those Peleset mixed with the native Canaanites and became the Philistines.

I always found the Sea Peoples interesting, from what little archeology evidence we can gather about them is that they're a loose coalition of tribes from Southern Italy and Sicily that were driven Eastward by (most likely) famine as there was a huge famine for over 100 years across the Mediterranean. The reason they were so successful was a combination of the aforementioned famine and that the were completely removed from the status quo of elite chariot warfare of the region and had far more in numbers, because of these factors they were able to eventually destroy nearly all of the bronze age civilizations (I say nearly all because Ramses II of Egypt managed to repel them and there's a famous inscription of it on an old Egyptian building). A personal theory of mine is that in the Bible, God warns the Israelites that if they were to turn away from him that he would completely destroy them, it's possible that the Sea Peoples were once a chosen people of God but rebelled against him and didn't have a prophet like Moses to intercede with God on behalf of them to not destroy them and because of this were so utterly destroyed that we know nearly nothing about them, I'm not saying I believe this but it certainly is an interesting explanation.

One of the spookiest parts about history for me is how there's so much we actually don't know. The library of Alexandria immediately comes to mind. The library was considered a pinnacle of history and record keeping. I believe certain events were recorded and kept in the library that had to be destroyed to maintain a certain status quo. That status quo is maintained to this day and the worst part is that we don't know what it is.

Most of the archeological evidence I've seen during my amateur research has indicated that Sardinians, Mycenaeans, and post-Minoan Cretans made up the largest number of the Sea Peoples. For instance, the siege of Wilusa (Ilion/Troy), could be taken as a raid by Sea Peoples, conducted by post-Mycenaean Hellenic groups, upon the Hittite controlled or aligned city. Also, there is evidence that the Biblical Philistines are descendants of a group of Sea Peoples, if there is a precedent for the Philistines being a fallen group of chosen people of God, then your theory may be worth more thought. For more on the Bronze Age Collapse and the Sea Peoples I recommend Epimetheus' Bronze Age videos as a starting point.

Definitely something to it, can speak from experience. My grandpa & mom were able to do it, as well as myself which I found out as a kid in a shocking way. We have a dowsing rod that's been passed down through our family for generations and my mom let me try it once when I was a kid at the grandparents house, and that stick literally dragged me across the yard and tried to pull me down to the ground at a certain spot. My mom later asked my grandpa and he said that was where the water line went through their yard. Not gonna lie, I was expecting absolutely nothing to happen, and instead it worked so well it scared the shit out of me. P.S. dunno how much it matters, but I've heard the different types of wood used can make a difference. The one in our family that I used is a y-shaped stick of a willow branch

I used to live in rural TN, and we had some of that happen too. I’ve think about the “Sea Peoples” conspiracy as it’s one I’m really intrigued by. One thing I’d note/theorize with them, is there’s a chance we just don’t know the answers now as to who these people were because 1. Yes the victims like the late Bronze age Egyptians and others may not have figured out where they came from. Maybe this isn’t who they were but thinking about the Sea People makes me think of the ancient Carthaginian Empire. For those who don’t know Carthage was sort of one of the first ever big rivaling civilizations to the Romans back when they were still a Republic rather than and Empire. The thing about Carthage is that a large portion of what we “know” about Carthage today relies heavily on accounts soley from the Romans. Many of which historians today believe to be somewhat untrustworthy as many ancient Roman historians were known to have recorded history with a strong bias towards making Rome look good. As the saying goes, history is written by the victors. That being said one thing we know about Carthage is they had supposedly existed for hundreds of years before being conquered by Rome. They were a civilization that was big on maritime expertise and trade. They are also believed to have migrated originally from the Eastern Mediterranean and Carthage is believed to have been settled/established possibly during the late bronze age. I’m not saying Carthage or their ancestors were the “Sea People” I’m just saying civilizations like Carthage are examples of the fact that sometimes the reason we can’t answer things about ancient civilizations or find evidence of certain things sometimes it’s because other nations of the time who conquered them may have somewhat erase that part of their history.

Unfortunately, stairs in the woods don’t have a lot of mystique for me, among other reasons because I’ve seen first-hand how they can be made. I live in rural America and if you know anything about rural America you know that trailer houses are ubiquitous. Most of them are built up on cinderblock foundations, so to get to the door you need a staircase. For a long time the door to my house had a simple wooden staircase going up to it. Eventually we became a bit better off and were able to make some additions, such as a deck. So we had to remove the stairs to put the deck in place, so for a while before we got around to burning it there was just a random wooden staircase sitting next to some trees in our yard. I can fully believe that some people have done renovations to their houses, taken off the small staircases, and instead of burning them like we did just dumped them in some random place in the woods, explaining why you’d see them against steep hillsides, on the edge of a cliff, etc

The kings of trade empires talked to each other through letters about them and being absolutely terrified, then everything is destroyed, and then radio silence. I just think it's ancient Viking-like people with a similar raiding style as them but dealing with people far less advanced weaponry being it was during the bronze age. It's also not far-fetched that a group or groups of people could do this the Mongols and the Huns were capable of doing this we just got better records of them. The ones who did beat them off still collapse anyways due to probably some many resources fending them off and losing all their trading partners.

Fun fact: due to extensive analysis performed upon the remaining outermost stones of the Egyptian pyramids in Giza, it is widely theorized that the pyramids’ original outer layers had been entirely comprised of either very high quality granite imported from over 1000 km away from Cairo at Aswan quarry, or more significantly of large blocks of limestone, which unlike the limestone filling blocks used for the main bodies of the structures, were of particularly high quality limestone quarried about 15 km from Cairo in Tura. The surfaces of these higher-quality limestone casing stones are believed to have been meticulously, highly polished in order to reflect the light shining from stars and other heavenly bodies in the ancient Egyptian night sky. Additionally, the pyramids’ now-missing pyramidions (capstones) are thought to have originally been covered by large sheets of gold or electrum (a naturally-occurring alloy of mostly gold and silver) and are thought to have been looted many years ago, likely for this reason.

I'm not entirely convinced with the Granite suggestion for the outer shell, Granite is pretty resistant to weathering and likely would have survived to this day, limestone would be a much quicker weathering and would explain it's modern day absence. Though I'm only talking from my knowledge of petrology, I'm not too privy to Egyptology outside of the surface level. Regardless I could not overstate how impressive they must have been in their hayday, especially with the guilded tops.

Why is that theorized? I’m not arguing with you, I’m just curious how they came to that conclusion when we don’t have the pieces themselves. Was it in writing? That seems like the most logical place. Though if it’s a theory then I would think it doesn’t plainly say that.

Neuroscientist here, If you ever decide to do in episode on the fractals I have a real and very cool answer supported by research for why that happens. Short answer is that these drugs sort of turn off our consciousness and we experience lower order processing. Research is done by professor David Nutt who did the study on LSD and microdosing in the UK

  • @marcushagey4110

Researchers regularly misinterpret results because they assume consciousness to be a 'black box' of experience--unless you're using 'consciousness' colloquially in which case I'd agree. The Idealist interpretation is much simpler overall.

just commented the most stereotypical esoteric teenage approach to thinking about this but yeah the idea my friend and I started from is that on psychadelics we experience things without the conscious ability to distinguish reality from fiction, correctly or at all, and that consciousness, rationality, and concepts all represent subtractive elements in the process of interpreting reality, so the closer you get to 0 conceptual interpretation, the closer you get to reality, but by the same token, the closer you get to infinite conceptual interpretation, the closer you get to reality. Anyway, there's probably a really obvious reason none of that makes sense but until I find it I'm going to read Dr. Nutt's work and freak out about it tomorrow morning to my government teacher and esoteric nerdery friends. Also, since I don't know who else to ask, is there any research or philosophy on the relationship between attention and consciousness? Like, the brain filters out information so only some of it gets consciously perceived, which you could also just say as "you notice stuff", and I guess I don't know where to go from that little think.

@@ethansdroid Based on my research, it's a yes and no. The strongest theory I focused on in my paper is that the Sea Peoples were an amalgamation of different groups that modern historians have thought were linked, but likely were separate. So, yes they were probably Vikings, but likely also a coalition of Neo-Hittite states after the fall of the Hittite empire, a group from the Philistines, or just a group of random people looking to migrate due to natural disasters like drought. The Bronze Age was a turbulent time with a lot going on all at once, so honestly the Sea Peoples could have been all of these people. But, because it happened at such a close time, it appears to be some crazy group on a rampage.
