Lmao. Actually 11. Super Mario Party seems to fortunately go back to its roots of what MaRio Party before 9 and 10. The last good Mario Party I played was 8 on the Wii. That game is still fun to play today. Thank God their bringing back the original formula for the Switch.

The reason the Wii U failed was probably because they failed to advertise the console, they could've found a better use of the branding name like four men coming to someone's house and one of them says "Wii like to play with U," and third-Party developers weren't giving what the Wii U needed to give to the audience. They were very lazy since the Wii U has two screens. Also, I liked the name "Wii U" so they shouldn't change the name of the console.

The name of the console was its biggest problem, at least commercially. It sounds nice and all but it doesn't work. Casual gamers didn't even realize it was a new console and didn't touch it. A lot of moms bought their kids Splatoon or Mario Kart 8 only to realize it wasn't for the Wii. On the other hand, more "hardcore" audiences stayed away from the console because of the name. By the end of its lifecycle, the Wii had a poorer reputation among the community as a low-quality casual mess, so many of them didn't give a toss about its successor. The vast majority of people who got a Wii U were a small niche of Nintendo fans that could never make the console a financial success.

Guess what? I have had my Wii for 7 years and the Wii U for 5 years and the controllers work perfectly fine. My 3yrold switch? *joy con Drift* Couldn’t have the switch contained the same mechanism for the joy sticks than the Wii U? They still don’t drift! Wii U was a good console and I had so much fun, also with the Wii. But the switch is better than the Wii U. Nothing beats the Wii because it has a special place in my heart.

Well, it sold like only about 14 million copies because while those games are amazing, they're so far in between all the mediocre ports, awful third party support and pretty small library compared to other consoles. It's still pretty good in my eyes, but I can understand why it failed.

the wii u was A GOOD CONSOLE. The marketing just wasn't... great. I LOVE the wii u. and besides, we got splatoon and mario maker. you can ALSO play wii games, might i remind you, which is REALLY useful for peeps like me and my family whos wii just died. its the reason i can play super paper mario, one of my favorite games. youre entitled to your opinion but I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOOOOOVE the wii u! edit: we dont EVEN TALK about the absolute ATROCITY that is paper mario color splash. no unique villains or bosses, and TOO. The Vita's presentation and launch titles were fine, the only bad thing was the memory card prices. It didn't become a flop until Sony gave up on it around mid 2014, it's first two years or so were ok, although way off the early days of the PSP

That's only because you most likely don't have a switch. Trust me, the switch will outperform the Wii U everytime lol

I thought this was pretty obvious - you can knock it for being marketed poorly, having a weak launch lineup, lacking third party support, etc., but the simple fact is that no Wii U means no Switch. The Switch really was the refinement on what the Wii U started in terms of console portability. This applies to its game library too. There's a reason half the Wii U library got ported over. The Wii U had some damn good games, some of the best Nintendo have ever featured on their consoles. Smash 4, Splatoon, Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario Maker, Nintendo Land, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Rayman Legends, Pokken Tournament, just to name a few off the top of my head. Good games are all I really care about, to be honest, and quality over quantity. And look how many of those have either made it to the Switch as a port, or been reincarnated into an improved version/sequel. Being a Wii U owner in the Switch era feels kind of like being a hipster. I'm glad people are finally appreciating these fantastic games for what they are, but it was awesome enjoying them this whole time.

Tidal Yacht True, but the biggest failing of the Switch IMO is that I can't backup or access my save data. You know, for a portable console, which can easily get lost, stolen, broken, etc. All to hold the backup possibility hostage so I have to pay for their lackluster online service coming this Fall. No Virtual Console is an obvious complaint as well. Also, I really liked Miiverse. Sure it had some terrible, terrible posts and its share of notoriety, but it felt cool just having a community specifically just to casually post and browse screenshots and drawings from my favorite games. I know why it had to go, but I really have no interest or motivation in participating like this on general social media. Also...minor point, but all of the Switch menus are just really lifeless to me. No music or anything. Even the eShop is dull as dirt. Who didn't like the Shop Channel music on the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U?

The Wii U had such a good line up of games on Virtual Console it honestly still outshines the Switch when it comes to that

It really is a shame, I absolutely love the Wii U and still play on it to this day. The games were amazing and I also loved the Gamepad, I didn't think it was clunky or ugly, I found it super comfortable! I had so much fun with this console!

Ikr I love it so much especially Sm4sh, Super mario 3D world, splatoon, etc. But objectively the Switch is much better but Wii U ily.

Eh, to me, it was no more of a disappointment than the Gamecube. If anything, the Virtual Boy was WAY more forgettable.

Wish more people talked about the internet browser on the Wii U. Hands down the best one I've used on any console/handheld. Ended up clocking in well over 1000 hours on it idk how I even managed to do it.

I probably should have brought it up in my initial comment but long story short I didn't have full access to my laptop at the time and I spent the majority of the summer in 2014 browsing facebook, listening to music through youtube and using my tv to watch episodes of anime and cartoons while I would talk with friends online or read manga or look up stuff on tv tropes and whatnot. And I was practically glued to the gamepad almost everyday when I wasn't sleeping, so that's more or less the reason I clocked in over 1000 hours, or at least a contributing factor for how I got to such a big number.

You know, Reggie, that really is more "your speed".

I loved the Wii U and I was always angry and confused that I never saw it anywhere nor anybody talking about it but then when it was cancelled or whatever I was like “ooohhh...”

I don’t regret buying a Wii U based on what we knew back in 2012 since I had a lot of great times with it, but if I had somehow known what the Switch’s library was going to be like, I think I would’ve just waited. It also felt like Nintendo punished Wii U owners by putting out low-effort titles like Mario Party 10, Amiibo Festival, and Ultra Smash. I can see why though. I mean, why put effort into the games if they’re not even going to sell well?

Unpopular opinion: I actually liked the Wii U I said "liked" because I no longer have one, but because of the online service, I'd like it back.

People say it had no games...Captain Toad, Mario Maker, Smash 4, COD BO2, Bayonetta 1&2, Batman Arkham City Armored Edition, Mario Kart 8, New Super Mario Bros U, Splatoon, 3D World, Shantae, Shovel Knight, Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, Tekken, Pokken, Pikmin 3, Hyrule Warriors, Darksiders 1&2, Freedom Planet, Sonic Lost World, Injustice, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Minecraft, Watch Dogs, & more...not to mention the fact that you can play NES, SNES, N64, Wii, Wii U, GBA AND DS games, have media apps, various controller options, and play online for free. Gosh, I love the Wii U.

Oh yes watch dogs, let's play the worst possible version of an already mediocre game, which on top of that, came like 6 months after it was released on every other system and had no special features for the gamepad. When you take away third party games from that list, you end up with two or three good first party games a year. Those software droughts are one of the biggest reasons why Wii U never took off.

two things the wii u did better than the switch: virtual console and just how comfortable the gamepad is. for the size it is, it's pretty lightweight, and fits in your hands perfectly.

Large guns are pretty cool, but they just couldn’t compete with the ability to decimate a civilization from thousands of miles away with the click of a button

At least the Wii U has more of that Nintendo charm to the menus than the switch by a longshot.

RetroLegend Smash 4 isn't really worth talking about imo. The most safe and boring smash sequel when it released. Absolutely no modes were quality aside from multi. The "most content" in smash argument falls apart at the seems when you realize the absence and replacement of certain modes with far worse ideas were the norm for it. Alot of content doesn't mean much when almost nobody likes it. Also, I'm hesitant at non-port. Ultimate is very clearly reusing alot of assets straight from Sm4sh. Building on top of a foundation doesn't mean the property is entirely new. Just means you added onto it. The same cannot be said of any other smash.

You know, before E3 I would have disagreed, I thought Smash 4 was the only reason to own a Wii U, as it still was a fun time....then they announced Ultimate.....and there is 0 reason to play Smash Wii U after Ultimate so...I guess I agree with you lol (That and there is Smash for 3DS so yeah)

Honestly for what it was, the Wii U is one of my favorite consoles ever. Memories will carry anything hard with nostalgia

I have played my Wii u so much and it was so fun back in the day. I also sometimes still go back to it to either play Wii games or Wii u games I don't have in switch or to play home-brewed Mario kart.
