It weird to think kids born in 2006 are 12 now. I remember 2006 like it was last year, and I’m only 17.

How come no ones ever talk about the fact that Mario says goodbye to you every time you close the ds with the game still on. When I was a kid and heard him my mind was blown. I was so amazed by the smallest thing ever. I love Nintendo doing these things.

I honestly feel like the reason NSMB DS isn't really praised at all nowadays is because of its sequels giving a bad reputation to the whole New Mario Bros Series. But nonetheless, I honestly think that this is one of the most innovative 2D Mario games of all time! It successfully combined the old mechanics with a mixture of new ideas and preexisting ones at that generation which gave this game a great and unique style! :)

I actually find this to be one of the weaker NSMB entries, despite being the original. The vast majority of levels are incredibly one-dimensional, new enemies are ugly reskins, most of the actually hard-to-find star coins are simply hidden behind some BS tiny passage that you need to farm a mini mushroom from some other level for and then come back with it, and the Mega Mushroom, while cathartic, is an utterly hollow gimmick that you find like 3-4 times and requires a specific length of level to be built for straightforward destruction before you can have any fun with it. IMO NSMB Wii is where it peaked, the level design and multiplayer made it much more interesting, and most of the entries since have been kind of struggling to innovate or maintain relevance.

NSMBWii was amazing, but NSMB2 and NSMBU were mediocre.

How can something be old and new at the same time?! THIS IS INSANITY

A lot of people dont like them because theyre all too similar. Im fine with the style and think that this is just what mario looks like now, as established by Sunshine. The level design is amazing and a lot of mechanics are used. I actually prefer NSMBW to SMW and SMB2 because of exploration. I feel that most people dont care for them anymore is because most reviewers and critics still have nostalgia goggles on and are complaining about things that the old games dont have.

A voice in my head kept nagging me that as a young man in the spring I should be out having fun and socializing. I rushed down to the bar and a girl caught my eye. Tonight I'm sitting in bed beside her and our two and a half year old son, taking a break from New Super Mario Bros. Wii U, and this video shows up in my feed. TLDR: I met my wife 12 years ago while taking a break from this game. Tonight I watched this video while taking a break from NSMB Wii U.

The New Super Mario Bros. series got a bad name because of how frequently they released and barely having any differences. Keep in mind that New Super Mario Bros. 2 and New Super Mario Bros. U both came out in 2012.

Yes, I did play the Soup as a child, but before I ever got a DS I was introduced to videogames through the magic of a flea-market console loaded with like 999 pirated games. Right at the top of that list was the original Super Mario Bros, and so my brother and I ended up unwittingly developing nostalgia for games that were older than ourselves. When that console died after about a year, we got a DS to share with New Soup packaged in, and that game blew our tiny child minds. Eventually a second DS was purchased just to play the verses mode together.

I remember our copy of this game got stolen at a Chick-fil-A of all places. Left the cartridge out on the table while we chose a different game to play and someone must have snatched it while it weren't looking because it vanished.

If you want to feel old, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is going to be 10 years old on January 31st!

Even though Brawl isn't the best Smash Bros. game, it was my first Smash Bros. game and it really got me into Nintendo games. I've played Melee competitively, Smash 64 for fun, Smash 4 with my friends, but they didn't pave my childhood like what Brawl did.

This was my first Mario game.

For real though, the battle mode in this game was so much fun. I played that shit all the time with my brother. You didn’t even need two copies of the game to play it! You could just use the DS download play! God, so good.

To be fair, he already owns the game as can be seen in the video, and doesn't have a 3DS capture card, from what I can tell. So he has the right to emulate it for game footage.

This. When I was younger, my brother and I used to play this game mode all the time. I've always been dissapointed that it's the only NSMB game to have a VS mode. Wii, U, and even 2 on the 3DS have a co-op mode instead. The 3DS version (which requires 2 copies of the game) even has screen restrictions so if someone goes too far off screen you still go into the bubble so you can't even race each other or something like that and make it competitive. We each have our own screen, why do we both need to stay on it? I imagine if the Switch gets a NSMB game it's gonna be co-op once again. I will never understand why this mode has never returned as a game mode. I'm sure the current generation of kids would enjoy it the same way my brother and I always did.

im a new viewer and only 8 seconds into the video but all i want to say is that your intro is absolutely incredible, the best i have evr seen. i rewinded multiple times

I got a pirated console with like a thousand “retro” games on it from a flea market when I was little, so I grew up on that original Mario stuff while also playing the new stuff when it came out. It was amazing how both were equally fun for little me.

That "younger people's first mario" jab was so accurate to people in my age range it hurts

New super mario was actually the first game that I played and the game I grew up with in my childhood and still is to this day one of my favorite games because it has a huge nostalgia effect on me

Those dabbing kids at the beginning was the best way to represent youth in the current year XD

u know? i found some cheat codes that, one makes the mega Mario last forever, and another that lets me hold R or L to shrink or grow *visually* not phusically. so i took advantage over these cheats and made mario tiny as shit while having the mega mario permanently on, which makes Mario look like a supersayan dwarf destroying things around him without even touching it! i don't know why, but its funny as all hell!

New soup wii was my jam as a kid. Also my first Mario. Also some mini games are on the ds Mario 64. Idk which came first though

I think your video really hit the nail in the head, and that your absolutely right! I'm 15 turning 16 next week and remember playing this as my first system, video game, and Mario game! It was my introduction to Mario and the first game I have completed and still have!! It definitely brought a new generation of Mario players up, and I don't think it'd talk about enough. I also played Mario 64 but in the DS. I typically feel young with my first system as a DS lite and a Wii, but it's good to know where starting to grow up :)

As a 16 year old new super Mario bros was probably one of the first video games I ever remember playing and I’ve always loved it
