I sold my 97 accord which was a great car, and got a 98 crv 5 speed. In CT we get random blizzards so it was a necessity to have 4wd, my buddy has 3 rd1's just because he knows they're a great car, and convinced me through 5 winters of evidence to back it up lol

I moved from SoCal to Washington state a few years ago. After the 1st winter I realized my lowered B16 CRX was not going to cut it.. The RD1 was the first choice for my winter warrior. It took a few months of looking to find a clean 5-speed i liked. I passed on a lot of auto crv's. Planning on picking up a spare "hi comp" jdm b20 while they are still cheap. For how rare and expensive the 5-speed awd RD1 is becoming and how much more "bang for the buck" a 2nd gen Kseries CRV will give for about the same cost.. Unless you have some nostalgia to the old B-series motors or crazy aspirations. Just buy a 2nd gen.. I only got mine because eventually I want to convert my CRX to AWD.. I plan on getting another 2nd gen CR-V for the winters. Drive safe all ! Edit: a few cons, no 6th gear. It's fine around town but no good for road trips. 70mps is buzzing over 3k rpm and it's not like the gears are short or anything.. Suspension issues must be maintained, Strut Bushings and End Links go thru a lot of stress with the stock raised civic platform suspension and it gets sloppy fast, then the clunking noises.. The AWD system is very simple and reliable but must be maintained with correct OEM Honda fluids (Don't cheap out.) AWD means 4 matching tires and good tire rotations, a single flat could cost +$700 because you need a whole set now...

Glad you got a winter warrior as your rd1. Very solid cars, and yea those b20s are already going up in price. Which really sucks since they used to be "the people's motor" as HMO called it. Your right though the 2nd gen crv is definitely better is every way!! My fiancé has a 2nd gen SE and its the shit, but I absolutely love the nostalgia my rd1 gives me. Im just a Honda boy at heart, and love my golden era hondas regardless if the b20 isn't giving enough HP unlike the k24 in the 2nd gen. It just pulls really well and it's undeniably better.

@@ElReySupr3me Thanks! I got the crx in 2009, A all stock 89 dpfi Dx for $800. Spent about 2 years and +3k (while trying to keep a budget.) building the swap. It's +1.00 over 82mm bore, balanced SiR internal rotating assembly in a B17 GS-R block. w/ a stock 99 EM1 head and 95 obd1 Del Sol intake manifold. 4.4 cable Xsi Integra b16 tranny. All stock Honda parts (except the pistons) Still running a "chipped" OBD0 PR3 ECU. It's a "parts bin" and Junkyard run Frankenstein of a car. I don't claim that its fast, not even quick.. But its DAMN FUN to drive !! Vtec cracks loud and she pulls hard to 9k. Gives a nice POP backfire on every shift that falls out of Vtec. No power steering, no ABS, no traction control. Just a Cable clutch and a 6 puck disk.

Yea, it would be nice to swap some more comfortable seats in mine. A supercharger would be nice to have. 5 psi should be safe with stock internals. Idk how high the psi can be, but I read that a b16 can do up to 9 psi. I would think a b20 can do the same thing. Especially since it has a lower compression.

The RD1 may be a bit smaller than the next generations but I bet it can fit a lot because it’s squarer. It also has great sight lines. You may be able to get leather seats from a wrecker. The seats are pretty comfortable for an under 200lbs person. I like the height. Good view and great in snow. Easy to change the oil. I wouldn’t trust it to tow anything. By the way: make sure you adjust the valves.

I love my crv in general. Im literally changing the whole front suspension with mostly oem parts and napa parts. Almost done actually. About to run smoother then ever. Also, I'm going to wait until I can find leather seats, but im pretty happy with my cotton seats. The first thing I did was adjust the valves to this bad boy. Really the next thing I got to do is change my timing belt and im pretty much done with all the maintenance on the crv.
