Other women are average too, they are just promoted in their best selves! We just need more promotion like DDS. 💕

@Foxy Lady I somewhat agree, but for the most part, most people are considered "average" but when you play up your looks and put your best self out, you can transform your appearance. Sometimes simply as wearing flattering clothes and colors will make you look 10x better. I do believe some of the women are considered "exceptional beauty" but most of those women are everyday black women who played up their looks to put their best version of themselves out.

I hate the fact that so many people in the black community try to make it seem like a black woman wanting long hair is eurocentric. It's biologically possible for us to grow our hair so how is it a form of self-hate? Same thing with getting super defined curls. Its far from Eurocentric! Have you seen dark skinned women all over Africa with super long hair? And I don’t just mean my people in East Africa with the curls and straight hair or Afros... I mean the dark skinned women SPECIFICALLY with 4C hair like the women in Chad with the promotion of Chebe powder with super long stretched out 4C hair which was good promotion and Ghanaian or West African women who have very thick long hair done to their back because of that non GMO Shea butter and good herbs. 4C hair actually grows very fast it’s just that people are always fooled because of shrinkage.

Truthfully, black high fashion models usually have short hair or weaves because our hair cannot withstand the amount of heat and chemicals used on such a regular basis in the industry. Also, many in the industry don't have the skill set or time to to style out hair within the necessary time constraints. There a reason most black women in entertainment do only expose their hair on their off time.

A great example: ALOT/MOST WW (young and old) have thinning/thin & stringy hair. And if they wait more than a couple of days between washes, it gets very greasy. Both cases are natural and common to them. But do you see WW with visibly greasy hair and scalp showing through their edges majority of the time in media? Absolutely not! Let them tell it they all have thick, shiny, and healthy looking hair regardless of length and the age of the woman. They promote themselves in the best light!

Yes, some black women have a hard time accepting the beauty of everyday black women and pedestalize what’s deemed “the most perfect beauty of black women” but that ain’t this. Furthermore, this hair argument is ridiculous. This whole idea that a BW preferring longer hair over short hair is not solely rooted in “obsession” with long hair. Not every woman has the face or frame for short hair, thus style their hair accordingly to what looks best on them & what THEY feel the most comfortable with. Lastly, we as BW are not more “obsessed” with long hair any more than other groups of women are....look around.

Though I definitely think that many black women, (not all) fall into that category of obsession. And that obsession is instilled by black mothers and the black community at large. I remember I did finger coils in my natural hair and was told that was a "lesbian" style. Unfortunately it was my nonblack Arab step mother that told me my natural hair was gorgeous. I had my Nepalese friend tell me that me wearing my natural hair, made her want to embrace her natural wavy curls. Then we had a whole conversation about colorism and the obsession with long straight hair in her country. It's a shame that other races appreciate our unique beauty and we can't even appreciate it amongst our own fellow black people.

The poster for the 007 movie in my opinion does masculinize Lashauna Lynch. People do this thing with dark skinned women's make up where they act like color cosmetics won't show up on us or they choose the wrong colors for our skin (like the travesty of 1970s powder blue eyeshadow). They will typically use brown eyeshadow that is close to the woman's complexion so that it really doesn't show up (I don't know if they use brown because it is currently really popular with lighter skinned women). They will also use a brown toned blush and nude lips (a brown lip liner and some gloss). Maybe if they only used one of these things it would look fine, like a brown eyeshadow but pair it with a pink or red or orange blush, but to just use all brown tones on a brown woman...It makes them look dead. In that poster LL is wearing a baggie suit vs the other women wearing fitted, feminine dresses. LL's makeup is very monotoned while Ana de Armas and the other woman clearly have different tones to their makeup and AdA has red lipstick. I see this all the time and it's intentional. They want to tone down a BW body if her thighs and butt are too "big" or put her in unflattering clothing when she has a great figure. It's annoying!

For the 007 promotion they really filled in her already full brows, which in my opinion, gives her are very masculine brow. Despite whether Sub Saharan women have more pronounced features if you look at our male counterparts they will typically have stronger brow bones, wider jaws, etc... She has a great figure. There are photos of her at events wearing form fitting clothing and she looks amazing, but they chose that jumper for the promo. There is a scene in the previews where it appears they are in a nightclub and she is wearing a white top. Why not choose that outfit? There's even a promo where she is wearing a man's suit; with the brown eyeshadow, brown blush, and deep red lipstick that looks black. Her WW counterparts are carrying guns in the promo stills but still look very feminine.

As an overweight dark skinned average looking black woman, I LOVE this video (and a lot of your other content)!!! I grew up thinking dark skin was less attractive (aka you had to be rare to be dark skinned and beautiful) because of most representation being us in the mammy archetype or the funny, ghetto side character. And we all love those characters and the women that identify more with those characters are valuable. Attractiveness and femininity do not determine our inherent worth. BUT how damaging for those of us who do gravitate toward being more feminine and want to be attractive to feel that our dark skin takes away from that because of the bulk of the representation we see for ourselves. We rarely see ourselves as attractive, desirable main characters. And almost NEVER will that include our natural hair. That’s why we’re all so obsessed with Teyonah Parris right now!

For any black women who's having a hard time understanding corrective promotion, for mere perspective and the realization, I HIGHLY recommend that you become cultured with other genres of music (internationally) and watch the videos, listen to the lyrics pertaining to women; particularly, the male musicians. You'll notice how other genres, the women are promoted with variety; classy, nerdy, nurturing, supermodel, sexy, skanky, damsel, villain, ugly duckling turned swan, the rocker, gold digger, tomboy, comedian, exotic, artsy, girl next door, talented, wild, mystical/ ethereal beings, a bimbo, a dancer, the queen, good girl, bad girl, emotional, crazy, godly, demonic, long hair, short hair it doesn't matter. Overall, most of the time, she's the love interest that's sexy and in shape and most of the time she is portrayed as the most beautiful thing in the world. After you do this, find the genres of music that are dominated by black male musicians (emphasis on American) and watch the videos and listen to the lyrics. How did it make you feel? Do you associate yourself with the regurgitating archetypes that's being perpetuated? Realistically, is it even achievable and respectable? This is why we need this. Black women who are cultured with music, y'all know what I'm talking about. I don't put limits on my beauty or who I actually am, just because these blacker genres do. Your beauty is already there ladies. Naturally enhance it and make a style of your own. ❤

MAJOR TIPS: Hygiene is #1!! Teeth, skin, hair on point. Brush, wash, moisturize, deodorize everyday no exceptions 😔 Learn how to do your natural hair. Your own box braids, twists, loose hairstyles etc. Have “go-to” cute hairstyle that fits your face for those inevitable lazy days. Optional lazy day advice: invest in 1 or 2 high quality natural hair wigs: extensions that don’t look too different from your natural texture If you like wearing makeup find an everyday natural look that works for you (mascara, concealer, light highlighting and a lip product can do wonders) Invest in some high quality basic WELL FITTING neutral clothing. (Jeans, white t, cream sweater, neautral turtlenecks, etc) Always make sure your clothes fit well and are wrinkle, stain and hole free.

Thanks for this. I like KSC but I didn’t get how she understood corrective promotion with her young BW Uber driver with chipped nail polish and a messy car for her riders but doesn’t understand why we would prefer to not have a BW in a suit and low-cut in a major motion film.

@@kmc1994 great points! And she has also been spinning a narrative that “if you get a high value man, it’s not gonna be roses and glitter. He’s going to cheat, etc.” Which is toxic because it’s just the classic Tyler Perry movie trope repackaged. Like don’t expect a high-value man with intact morals? That’s a dusty pick-me talking point. I love her stance on being a proper matriarch and I appreciate her in-depth knowledge so when I listen to her I eat the meat and spit out the bones at this point.

That was very odd to me as well. Even if the girl asked me what was wrong with her I wouldn’t have done so in a harsh manor; the way she described the event was as if she gained pleasure in tearing a young black woman down. Rubbed me wrong 😕

I dont listen to KSC because, well, I don't like her. I feel like it's just a bunch of rehashed Muslim bushido, and not very good. Thank you ladies for putting me up to speed. A lot of women of all races and ages are EXTREMELY jealous of young black women. Older black women included, which I've had major problems with. Move in stealth, secure the bag.

I’m an aspiring dark skin model and I want to big chop but I refuse to be another bald dark skin model. I also really want to represent Afro American women cause I don’t have those strong features that African models tend to have but there is still beauty in our subtle features.

That 007 movie poster STILL pisses me off to this day. Why Lashana Lynch couldn't be in a cute little red dress with a glock in her hand like the wywomen??? If I was her, even if it meant that the role would be taken from me, I would've stood up to that and refused to put on that damn assassin suit. That shit was definitely on purpose.

Thank you for all you do, Chrissie! 💕 and yes, we are very capable of growing our hair as long as we want to. I cut my hair into a pixie cut this past spring, but I’m growing it out and I can see how much it thrives and flourishes when no heat is used, I embrace the shrinkage, and let it grow without manipulation. To this day, my grandma still believes black hair doesn’t grow and it saddens me. The narrative needs to change.

OMG , I have noticed this as well. Every time I go on websites like Zara, I question why they use a certain phenotype of dark skin women. It is usually an androgynous looking dark skin woman. However, they use mostly glamorous white models. I am not saying these women shouldn't hold space in fashion... they definitely should be but if you're going to use a particular type of Black woman use the same type of white women.

What we need above all is MORE BLACK MEDIAS. As you said when it comes to movies, fashion & modeling yt people will always find a way to downplay our beauty compared to yt women. And sadly those medias' level of influence is still way superior to social's like Instagram & others. So if you're a black person with any sort of creative aspirations, men or women, please never give up and always fight for the opportunity to be in charge of your own representation. We need more people like y'all.
