About this video: This is our complete beginners guide on how to play Minecraft in 2023. No matter if you are brand new to Minecraft in 2023 or returning to Minecraft after not playing a while, this will give you the Minecraft basics to ensure that you are start playing no matter.
First things first, there are two versions of Minecraft - Java and Bedrock. Java is the original version of Minecraft, and it can only be played on Mac and PC. Bedrock is the version that you will be playing if you are on a console, Andriod, or iOS device. Bedrock can also run on Windows, but it is less commonly played there.
With that out of the way, there are four basic things to know about Minecraft in 2023 - gathering materials, crafting, building, and combat.
Gathering materials is mining and getting resources such as wood and seeds.
Crafting is taking the materials you gather and creating things with them like tools as well as other blocks like bricks and glass.
Building is where you let your imagination run wild by taking the materials you have gathered and crafted and making new things with them such as houses, farms, and more. The options are endless.
The combat system in Minecraft is where you fight mobs, and in some cases other players. Swords are the main combat weapon. However, bows and crossbows can be used for ranged attacks.
With that out of the way, let’s move on to surviving your first night. As soon as you join into a new world, you will need to cut down some trees. You can do this by punching them with an empty hand.
Once you have wood logs, use the crafting area in your inventory to turn them into planks. Then, place four planks in this crafting area to get a crafting table. By placing this down, you will get a larger crafting area that can be used to craft tools and other items.
From there, you will need to get some food. I recommend killing some animals and getting their meat for food at the start. You can also get a farm going.
Then, it’s time to head down into the mines. Just start mining in a staircase pattern. When you find coal, create some torches. Create a furnace, cook the meat you gathered, and then keep mining until you find iron.
From there, you will be able to build your first house and create a bed. A bed will allow you skip the night in Minecraft, and it is a must have. At this point, you can get diamonds. Then, it’s off to netherite. All while maintaining your farm, gather more resources, and building all that you can image.
And there you have it! That is our complete beginners guide to Minecraft in 2023. If you have any questions about how to play Minecraft in 2023, let us know the comments. We will try our best to help you out.
Otherwise, if we did enjoy the Minecraft Beginners Guide for 2023, please give this video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already. It really helps us out, and it means a ton to me. Thank you very much in advance!

Pro Tip: If you can't find any coal, smelt a piece of wood (not planks). Then you will get charcoal which is a great alternative to coal.

We're all awesome 😎. I just found a neat book that shows how to use Minecraft as a supplemental educational resource. It has helped my daughters with spelling. They like me making and destroying builds of their spelling words as they get them correct. We built some crazy geometry too. My husband is into architecture ( as a hobby, he appreciates it). He and I have been building dungeons with brain teasing puzzles. It's fun. Hope y'all's builds and family time is going great!
This was really helpful for a first time player, thank you. I’ve been trying to figure out Minecraft on my own and had no idea how to find good coal or iron other than what I happen upon. I also saw on your 2022 vid about burning wood to make coal.. blew my mind. Thank you!!

Happy to help! Should have included that here. Curious which you enjoyed more!
Fun fact for new players: You can get string from spiders to get wool, allowing you to make a bed. Fishing and farming are some of the best ways to get food. Fishing doesn’t just give you fish, it can also get you rare things. If you only have one tree, break the tree, then wait until it drops a sapling or 4 so you can plant many trees. Although gold mines stuff the fastest, it also breaks the quickest. You can trade gold things with piglins in the nether. (The nether is one out of 3 dimensions in the game, and you can get there with 12 obsidian Obsidian can only be mined with a diamond pickaxe, which can only be mined with iron. You need diamond tools and/or armor to make netherite tools and/or armor. (You also need a certain table that I don’t remember the name of.) Shearing sheep gives you more wool than killing it.
Minecraft just went from pretty simple to so complex recently 😊

And what makes it fun it because of Minecraft mod community in java you can have all cool mod like space, and etc and many cool map such as new York city. Japanese castlee and architectur not just that actual minigame and all for free and it's only in java not bedrock if you don't know what mod is it's basically modify like modify the mechanic and fuctional and for map it means functional build or creation or creating.

Great video, also at 29:00 I love how you didn't even acknowledge the mob right behind you
I played Minecraft with my friends back when it very first launched on the Xbox and we all had a world together which was so much fun. I came back on today for the first time in like a decade. I can’t hardly remember anything about it and also there’s a lot of new stuff. Definitely needed this video.
I tried my first world last night, I had a general idea of what to do: get materials, make gear, build house, etc. I loaded onto a lone island with nothing but rabbits and sand and died my first night. I was like “wow this game is really difficult” and I remembered this game is popular among children and I wasn’t going to get beaten by a “children’s” game so I tried again and loaded into a forest rich with supplies and survived a night. Now I have no idea what to do next other than gather materials and expand my house, which is fun in of itself, but I know there has to be more to this game than that. So here I am lol, thanks for the guide!

You can build a shaft going all the way down. Don’t dig straight down but dig a shaft and place stairs along the sides. If to make the shaft 5x5, making the walls 7x7, you can put doorways on three sides, leaving one side for stairs. You can make a floor every at every multiple of 4 (ie; Y:4, Y:8, Y:12, etc) You can place a glass block at the center of every floor going down and then mobs wont be able to survive in your shaft and you can track daylight, before you craft a clock. If you keep the standard of branching off on every every level that is a multiple of 4, it makes it easier to link shafts. Not necessary but it makes it neater, for me. Also when making buildings or when you eventually find villages and beef them up against mobs, put a skylight with a glass block so the building gets sunlight inside during the day. Oh and craft buildings with stone blocks instead of cobblestone blocks to make them mob proof. Creepers don’t damage stone blocks and fortresses made in the nether can’t be destroyed.
Never opened Minecraft before two days ago, when I went on a search for games to play with my LDR. I'm a 26 year old woman just getting into it. I'm excited to soak up all the knowledge!! The very first time i played minecraft it was when it was still 1.13 I believe. I haven't played it in years and now started playing again in java edition only to realize that I forgot how the controls worked. I changed some of the controls. I also lost my previous save so the save i'm playing now is a new one. The biome I spawned in is a biome full with tall trees and mushrooms for some reason infested with creepers, zombies and sometimes cows or skeletons. I also found 2 caves with some ore in it, I marked them with a sign in creative mode and put a bed with a crafting table and some things in it once I go back to survival mode to make it easier for me.

Hey, thank you for the video! I started Minecraft in about 2008/9 I guess, when it was a free to download beta, there was not even a Nether yet and no MP, hunger was experimental, it was basically just a proof of concept. We had to learn everything by trial and error and through a lots of forums and some logs by Notch. But it was fun! I think some helpful small details for the beginning would be: Fall damage + crouch for setting blocks on an edge to not fall. Fire and drowning mavbe poisoned food damage as well and The four main mobs: Zombies, spiders, creepers (that destroy blocks!), skeletons, how they attack and drop and that a torch can prevent them from spawning, but not to keep them away. Maybe collecting samplings from the cut down trees, especially when growing them in an ice boom takes a while. These were the first things that we died from back then. I did not remember the window thing, either it was not implemented back then, or I just didn't use it, but I built domes and spheres from glass blocks and a one push rollercoaster from the top down, that was a lot of work and a lot of fun. Some basics might be important: world is generated but not stored as a whole, spawning happens over time and a system of chances in certain places. I think your tips on the depth of certain ores and different bioms is also important. Maybe talk about death a little. So loosing all loot at the place of death, respawning at 0, Y, 0 in the beginning and replacing the respawn place with a bed. I am still not sure what to do with all the new features, seeing MPs and Nether and strange kind of tasks in special places... I don,t know, right now I am just mining and building and trying to maintain a green footbrind through growth and breeding and trying to let everything come at me step by step. And that is okay, I can relax, I don't have to fight and win anything. It has to be nice and sturdy and efficient and then I am at peace. That's what I use Minecraft for. 😊 Thanks again! Have a good one!
This video is SUPER helpful! I don't have many hours on Minecraft but still I'm not a complete noob. Tho this really helped me do the correct steps to go forward. Thank you!
Thank you for this video, it was very helpful to me, a new player. You're a wonderful teacher.

Crazy as possible for my MGS2 tanker plan. I want to recreate that starting area on the ship! 2: how do you make a map marker? Something to never lose the area I'm working on if I go Hella far off and can't find it again?? 3: Can I download better shadows for PS4? To make say indoor extremely dark without torches etc? The reason why we like this game because of mod and map community if you don't know what mod is it's basically modify the game into something new like it's add interesting feature mechanics, function and so much more if you also don't know what map is it's basically functional build. Minigame. Creation and creating.
When in survival mode when night and I didn’t get a bed yet (first day playing Minecraft) so I dig down and make a underground house to avoid mobs
Ill buy minecraft in a few days probobly and i just watched this video cuz i know there has been alot on new things but i only needed the late game knowledge
As someone who plays minecraft every day this is a really good video for new players
As a returning player who played 1.7 back in the day... and doesn't remember ANYTHING this was helpful🎉
