@@kesardogra5529 It's perfectly fine to not like it after 2 or 3 since your main cast is essentially gone. And most consider 3 the end of a trilogy. Haha that's fair but books 2 and 3 have been adapted to television before with moderate success. And the director of the new movie did have some interest in making a trilogy and ending on the second book Dune Messiah. Even though that's kind of a worse note to end on. Just watched dune 2 ending with the end of the first book, with some changes but I'd reckon for the better it was way more satisfying than the book that is. ...I can see why most Hollywood writers/producers/execs ect. aren't all that interested in adapting the entire saga. Once you get to the "dude attaches leaches to himself to (somehow) become a sandworm" part, most movie goers are probably gonna check out lol

It's probably good to read the first 2-3 books to get Paul's complete story. I assume that they may stop after Dune Messiah for the movies because Paul goes off into the desert to die. Good cinematic ending. I wonder if Messiah will be two movies..would make sense to flush the story out.

So in short: If they continue to make all the books into movies, Jason Momoa will make a lot of money and have a lot of intimate scenes with many women. :D

Yes, I agree you would lose a lot of people after book 3. Probably before that even if they didn't alter anything. Book 4 and beyond does still have House Atreides. It's just later bloodlines. I wouldn't worry too much though there is no announcement to continue anything after the third movie which will be based on Dune Messiah.

I think the movies are only gonna cover up until book 4. Book 5 and 6 feel like the author was milking the very last drop of the success of the previous books to keep the money coming; they feel like a whole new plot altogether...one he sadly never got to finish.

Yeah the plot does kind of go off the rails, but I found all Frank Herbert's books to be very enjoyable. You'll probably still be able to like the Dune movies because the director is only committed to a trilogy right now. Which presumably will end on Dune Messiah. If they take some liberties with the source material they could make it an ending. And that would be before most people think the story takes a really odd turn.

@@AJ-pc5ln yes, haha seeing Jason Mamoa's Duncan interacting with the God Emperor would be something. Granted it might kill the franchise, but I think it would be entertaining. If they were gonna adapt the whole thing seriously I think you do two more movies for Children of Dune. Then I actually think the back 3 books could all be done as a HBO max series.

Honestly, after "Dune: Messiah" , for me anyways, it's no longer "Dune" (even if "Children of Dune" has Paul in it). . Maybe it's because to me it seems like the guy didn't know how to end a story so he kept on changing the goal post, but Dune 3,4,5,6 sound stupid. Maybe they are the best books ever written, but, they are different story riding in the popularity of the name "Dune". Basically, although it's still hard work, it's easier to expand on existing lore, rather than starting from scratch.

  • @FatalxBlade

I mean it's a fair take. I don't think Frank Herbert was trying to bank off the success of the first book though. Pretty sure he just just enjoyed doing his own thing. If he was writing them for success he would've given the people what they wanted.
