Context is important. I’m thinking of the fact that the Manifesto was published in 1848, which in France and many of the small German states had a series of revolutions and revolts, much like 2011 and the Arab Spring. These revolts and manifesto should be seen as part of what was “in the air “ at their time. Much has changed there are changes that could not have been foreseen in Marx’s day. He would have been better off not predicting the future. But he’s not wrong about saying that Capitalism sews the seeds of its own destruction as in 1930 to 1933 period when fear and greed collided, and the same again in 2008 to 2009.

communism is a political system. the counterpart is democracy. capitalism is just an economy system. the counterpart to capitalism is plan economy, that means the money is not free. without free money there is no freedom at all. In Austria we have a democracy with capitalism. concerning capitalism we have a social market system (the State can destroy monopoles) and not a free market.. our democracy system is eroding, that happens in every system after a certain time. we shouldnt replace it with a dictatorship, but restore it instead.

@@playacc1534 eh no communism, is an socio economic system, and democracy is a fundamental part of it. And no the opposite of capitalism is socialism, because they describe the ownership over the means of production, but not how the economy is structured, you can have market socialism, aswell as centrali plant capitalism. And freedom is the absence of coersion, but free flowing causes starving people because they can not afford enough food and so they are coersed into starving so defacto not free because of free flowing Money. And no you have not a democracy in austria because democracy=will of the majority of the population but that doesnt applie to your economic system, in which most is controlled by privat individuals but not mojaroty voted ones. For that you need to have communism. One example would be anarchism, with direct democratly controlled comunes, with small scall decentralised democratly decided planning and worker coops, in this case there would be really democracy.

I’m a capitalist, always have been, always will be, I’m also open minded enough to realize that there’s other forms of economy, government and society out there that could work, I think the inherent problem in any style of government and economy will always be bad humans, and not the economic style itself. Case in point, I truly believe the United States is more corrupt now than it’s ever been, that’s not capitalisms fault. It’s bad humans. No different than Stalin or Mao Zedong. Or Hitlers so called socialist paradise. The underlying issue is always bad people.

Any manifesto that has caused at bare minimum 100 million deaths should be burned and never read again. It’s like saying national socialism wasn’t implemented right , and since you Marxist are narcissistic, you think you’d do better with it. it doesn’t work, it creates laziness, destroys innovation ( why Russia and China steal everything from the west) and creates a zombie population that has no meaning. “Free” anything isn’t free, anytime the government controls anything they do horrible. This is common sense you guys are just so lost, Id actually feel bad for you if your ideas weren’t so dangerous and terrible. All these ideas sound good on paper but do not work, period. Free healthcare = no access to healthcare, but it’s free if you live 20 years you gotta wait to get the surgery you need in 2 months. Communism is giving the government the ultimate power and ultimate power will always corrupt. Capitalism isn’t perfect but it’s the best system in history, you people just gave up on yourselves, call it unfair and want everything equal because you’re too lazy to develop into more than someone who packages boxes all day complaining life is unfair, ask people who lived in communist countries about unfair; you’re all too soft and can’t handle reality and you’re all narcissistic so you think society should change to help you failures. I’m technically a failure but I used Covid money to start a business and I’m starting to get ahead. I’m sure you bought Xbox or a bunch of Marxist books with yours….

The manifesto is not a full explanation of marxism. For that one needs to first read “Das Kapital”, which is closer to 600 pages and for many people pretty intensive, not even mentioning the numerous other works by marx, engels, lenin, luxembourg, etc. The manifesto is just that. It is an extreme simplification of marxist philosophy, sociology and economics for the average joe.

To understand it think of ancient human societies they lived in communist groups where they all did what they could for the betterment of there society, cause helping the next person ultimately helps you’re self and you’re group. Humans lived this way for most of humanity, till groups got real big and stronger people banded together. This started the slave system, you had stronger and smarter humans enslave all the weaker ones into doing things for them. This lasted up until feudalism Begun, when this begin you had kinds and land lords tell masses you can stay on this land and work and defend it and will watch over you an everything and protect you from the barbarians on the outskirts. This lasted till capitalism when the landlords became the owners and all the peasants were pushed into factory towns and started working for individuals who held ownership. This created the ideas of socialism where workers said gee at this point why do we even allow these people to rule over us and push us around. This led to movements and revolutions all over Europe and the rest of the world and was destroyed for the moment by the capitalist in power. A lot of damage was done though and the start was established. Like marx said democracy is the road to socialism the road of socialism leads us right back to communism we’re everyone works together for the betterment of society and there is no owners anymore. Now to understand the difference between capitalism and socialism it’s this simple. First you need to understand the modes of production this is the land, the factory’s, the government, the community’s, etc. All these things are called modes of production, capitalist want individuals to hold private ownership over these modes. Socialist want the people involved to hold democratic ownership over it. Democratic is democracy. Basically socialist believe society should have a pure democracy over there government or that the government should be mainly led by the masses of society. Socialist also believe the land should be owned by all those who are on it, and that the workplace should be a democracy owned by the members who work there, basically the argument goes, socialist want social ownership over the modes of production and capitalist want it to be privately owned and controlled by individuals. Hope this helps lol ask me anything else if there’s something you’re wondering about.

This is a great, non-biased, and informative video. Thank you. Seeing how the Proletariat is so highly disadvantaged within the Communist/socialist framework, it is hard to fathom why anyone from the origin of Capitalist would consider and even denounce the great opportunity they’ve garnered from it. There is never prosperity for the individual when the State rules and owns everything. Americans jaded by the idea of socialism do so out of an detrimental ignorance as they do not see or have experience within such a pernicious system as socialism is. Somehow, they think the equal distribution of wealth will allow them more benefits when the apparent reality is the poverty and despairing rule of industry as many who have lived and fled a communist state have adamantly warned about. The history of communism is a damning attestant. Yet fools dare for change at their own demise.

@@ChapterbyChapter No. The original German phrase says "material production", not "industrial / wage labor". They refer to practical productive work for people under 18 years of age, but not for a salary, or for obtaining means of subsistence, they are saying to work to achieve self-realization, to break with the division of labor, to carry out in addition to theoretical study practical study by your interest and that of the community. In the Critique of the Gotha Programme, and other books, Marx also stated against child labour (in the capitalist sense). Engels in the book I mentioned before "it is unpardonable to sacrifice to the greed of an unfeeling bourgeoisie the time of children which should be devoted solely to their physical and mental development, withdraw them from school and the fresh air, in order to wear them for the benefit of the manufacturers" (p. 114 edition marxist.org)

"Another consequence of the use of machinery was to force women and children into the factory. The woman has thus become an active agent in our social production. Formerly female and children’s labour was carried on within the family circle. I do not say that it is wrong that women and children should participate in our social production. I think every child above the age of nine ought to be employed at productive labour a portion of its time, but the way in which they are made to work under existing circumstances is abominable" Here is marx's speech about it. He basically thinks that a portion of children's time should be put into productive labor but they shouldn't be exploited and he didn't ask for it as a necessity However in our time I don't think it's necessary.. A lot of parents still encourage children to get some sort of jobs to work. There are others who just encourage them to participate in productive activities even voluntry work. If Roman history is an example of the important reality of class struggle, and it is, it should be noted that the General and Consul Julius Caesar was a socialist leader who enacted quite liberal reforms giving common Roman citizens land and wealth as I have been doing minorly and wish to do on a larger scale. He was assassinated by cowards; and his socialist side, his heir and nephew Augustus Caesar, put the Senatorial cowards to the sword en masse. So the rich don't always win these class struggles.

There was actually three classes. Since the dawn of history there has always been a ruling class: Chieftains, Lords, Kings, Emperors... and their respective nobles. Everyone else were peasants or serfs under feudalism. Capitalism evolved from the Renaissance period (Milan, Venitian bankers) and the Industrial Revolution gave rise to the entrepreneur class and a large bourgeoisie emerged. So since the late 18th century, non-communist societies could be split into three distinct classes; Upper Class- Kings, emperors, lords, bishops, earls, dukes Middle-class- Engineers, doctors, clerics, entrepreneurs, bankers, lawyers Lower-class- workers

I would agree it's at least debatable, but remember Marx wrote this like 170 years ago, the theoretical framework was very different then. So it might be unfair to judge him by today's standards. -Raphi

@Samar3n I don’t think you’ll be saying that once you start seeing little babies ripped from their mothers hands only to be sexually violated in front of the mother and then held by their precious little feet only to be slammed against the tree and exposing their brains. That’s not hyperbole that actually happened in Cambodia back in the 1970s under Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge army comprised of teenage boys. Do you think you could stomach that or seeing someone burned alive? Because that’s what happens during revolution there’s not a single communist revolution that ever happened that was ever peaceful. Are you ready to be loaded onto a train car and sent to somewhere cold in America or wherever you live it’s coldest spot in the middle of winter with nothing but the clothes on your back?
