71-yr-old white guy here: You've missed out, young man! I was in my late 20s when the Commodores came out with this song, & on Saturday nights I'd be slow-dancing with some fine lady when this song was playing- it made 'em melt EVERY TIME- Lionel had a voice that made panties drop all over the WORLD!! I could tell by the look on your face that you enjoy it now as much as I did back in the day!! Stay well!

When you said "new group, the Commodores" it was clear you had no idea what was coming. I'm sure most of us were saying "wait for it"! I was already tearing up and then, "Wait! That's Lionel Ritchie!" Like, what's he doing here? Oh man, this is one of my favorite reactions ever. Right up there with "whoever this singer is, he's really good" about Freddy Mercury. Love you JV! You make my day. Congrats on 50k subs! Don't be shocked when it's hundreds of thousands. Your honesty, innocence and vulnerability are rare qualities in today's society. That's what keeps us coming back.

Found this on the Commodores: Commodores is an American funk and soul band, which was at its peak in the late 1970s through the mid 1980s. In 1977 the Commodores released "Easy," which became the group's biggest hit yet, reaching No. 4 in the US, followed by "Brick House," also top 5, both from their album The Commodores. The group reached No. 1 in 1978 with "Three Times a Lady." In 1979 the Commodores scored another top-five ballad, "Sail On," before reaching the top of the charts once again with another ballad, "Still." In 1982, Lionel Richie left to pursue a solo career Thanks for your reaction, Jay..... Take care and be well. Peace.

Lionel Richie started with The Commodores and then became a solo, this album was their first and just skyrocketed in the charts in the 70s! I was very lucky to see them in person twice. In person they were just as good as they were on their albums. And the show they put on while singing all those songs was unforgettable

I Lionel Ritchie! He's by far one of the most talented men that's ever lived! Not only does he sing and play the piano, but he's one of the most prolific song writers that ever lived. He also has what's almost a magical ability to give his songs a "hook." A line in the song, usually the chorus, that just draws the listener in; making the song, itself, easier to remember the lyrics, but it also just makes you want to listen to it again and again. (The Bee Gees also have that ability, as well.) It's definitely a rare one. Thanks for your wonderful reaction. I'm glad you enjoyed this one, too.

Great song! Takes me back to High School dances. The Commodores were really big back in the late seventies. Another great ballad is 'Three Times a Lady', and then there's 'Brick House' where they get down and funky and rock out! A personal favorite is a funky rocker instrumental called "Machine Gun" which sounds a lot like Billy Preston who you should also check out sometime (Nothing from Nothing, Space Race, Will it Go Round in Circles). Thanks for listening. Peace from SF

I knew your reaction to seeing Lionel would be fantastic to see and oh boy it was definitely that Jayvee. I loved him in the Commodootrs and I love his songs solo. My favourite with the group is Once, Twice Three times a Lady and my solo is Hello. I think he has a smooth and rich voice which shows his emotions, and the words come across so clearly, a great singer. I am still chuckling over your reactions sweetheart, so honest and genuine, you're great my friend. Take care and stay safe please everyone, love and hugs and peace to you all Mary-Ellen UK

Love the Commodores and Lionel Richie. There were a few years there where he was just pumping out the hits. I'm not sure which year it was, but at the American Music Awards, he was winning everything. Incredibly talented singer/songwriter.

I'm so glad that you are reacting to The Commodores. R&B throughout the 70's was exceptional. I kindly request that you react to "Sweet Love", released by The Commodores in 1975. It's actually not a love song per se, but simply a song about love, and how sweet it genuinely is. Best wishes from San Diego.😊

Lionel Richie was in the Commodores for over a decade before going solo in the eighties. He had a very successful solo career but some of my favorite music from him is from his work with the Commodores. The group was formed when the members met as freshmen while attending Tuskegee Institute in 1968. They have so many great songs like, Still, Zoom, Brick House, etc.

That was awesome. I loved the look on your face when you realized that Lionel Richie was singing.. Not only does he play piano but he plays a mean sax .. We had so many great bands back in the day .. I wish we had that kind of music today...
