I first saw Charlie Williams before he 'hit the big time' performing in a large new club. I had never seen anything like him before and I had already seen quite a number of professional comedians. The class jokes, broad accent, quick wit and the excellent timing - a real top act. He 'slaughtered 'em'. Later working in television he never quite managed to transfer his full talents to the TV screen, but I don't mind, I saw him when he was at his very best that night in Holmfirth. Brilliant!

I like it more now that comedians have a go at the people at the top rather than those at the bottom who are already having a hard time. Just looks like bullying to me when those old-time comedians do that.

Charlie Williams telling a racist gag, quite something. All these comedians laughing hysterically at their own jokes, quite something too. No wonder half of them were manic depressives.
