The knight's controlling a7 and so if vd played qc6 then I don't see a8 being an issue coz of qa8 while protecting the 8th rank and the king already controls the 7th squares around him. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

@@akashsoni3611 okay, Qxc6 Rxh7 threatening Rh8+ and then queen so Kg8 Rd7 if Qxd7 then White queens with a check and being two pawns up it will not be a bit problem for white to win. If anything else then Rd8+ again threatening to queen

@@priyanshpatel8230 I don't know about the thumb, but after Qxc6, white has Rc7 with the threat of Rc8+ followed by queening the pawn. Black has to take the rook, but then he ends up in a queen ending a pawn down.

I believe after qxc6 there is rh7 and in the end white is going to be at least a. Rook up. About the queen endgame a pawn down that is a mere draw I think bc of the checks.

if at the end Re1, black simply has Qc1xRe1 which comes with check and can use this tempo to prevent the promotion with Qe8 after white king moves out of check

If he takes the knight then white places his rook on c7(just infront of black queen), if queen takes rook then pawn promotes(black queen cant capture it anymore=winning for white coz of extra passer); even if queen doesn’t take c7 rook it’ll be difficult to prevent a7 pawn promotion later(also winning for white)

Noo queen forked both rook and knight at the same time if he moved the knight in h file the the queen would have taken rook and pinned the knight and in next move queen would have taken knight also so arjun played the best move

The rook was trapped anyway. He had to capture the bishop first, to even the material. If he had gone straight for the rook the bishop wouldve escaped

@@harshdeepsingh5889 rook won't check after queen captures knight. Rook takes on h7 threatening Rh8+ which defends a8 after king moves. So Black creates a queen. If Kf8 Rd7 threatening Rd8+. If queen takes the rook then black create queen with check and will be two pawn up with queen

After QC6, RC7. If the Queen takes the Rook, both have Queens on the board and white has a pass Pawn. Advantage - white. If Queen doesn't take the rook, to keep the Pawn from queening, the Queen has to either - remain on the light diagonal. RC8 checks the King and the Pawn queens with the Rook's support. Black loses; Or, if Queen goes to A6 (or anywhere on the A file) instead, to keep an eye on A8, rook makes space to check the king, most probably on H8(by taking the pawn). King chases Rook. Rook tries to make space to check the King again on the H file and so on. Either a draw or black loses most probably.

nope, he has Rb7 and it gets quite tricky for vidit because if he takes the rook, the pawn promotes and arjun is up with a past pawn on a2. So instead of taking the pawn, you have to block it with Qa8 and Arjun can take the pawn on h7. Its just not nice to defend, especially considering the time pressure; so Vidit accurately goes for the perpetual
