    The market knew this shit years/decades ago, which is why the market didn't invest in EVs. The only reason there's investment into EVs is because of big government. That's always the problem, isn't it, when government thinks it knows better than the market (hint: It doesn't and never has done nor can do).

    Government can afford to pay other people to drive EVs because it's other people's money.

    Good information. Gasoline and electric cars each have their use cases and trade-offs. Wouldn’t it be great if government stayed out of a voluntary competitive market of products, and let citizens spend their money as they see fit?

    All, please test drive a Tesla Model Y. It does sell itself; no government incentives required nor requested by Tesla. Charge at home: $40/1000mi. Charge on the road: $100/1000mi.

    Many in the Oil and Gas industry are starting investment into Hydrogen. Perhaps they understand the energy field a bit better than Government.

    Hydrogen is crap as well. You need more energy to create hydrogen then you get out of it. Graphene batteries in combination with fission or even better fusion nuclear energy is the way to go.

    Burning coal and gas at the scale of a power plant, to make the electricity to charge the EV, is still much more efficient and produces less pollution overall, especially in urban areas, than fueling up every individual internal combustion engine. This is why I overall support EV adoption. I have no illusions that they are "green" or will "save the Earth". Just that, at scale, they help reduce pollution that affects me. I think a lot more moderates like myself could get behind this if the messaging wasn't so biased and it was made clear what these are and what they are not. What their limitations are and what their reality are. I also like EVs because, drawing on the power grid, it means that once renewables actually are scaled up and have had time to develop greater efficiency, transitioning the grid to incorporate more of them will be easier. The biggest issue is the lithium for the batteries. At some point we will need to wholesale adopt new battery chemistries because acquiring lithium at that scale isn't practical. Everything is pros and cons. People need to understand that. EVs are not "bad" and they aren't "good" either. The left needs to drop the rosy tinted glasses about them. Be positive about the direction they can go in, but be realistic. Same with global warming. I am all in favor of reducing burned carbon to reduce pollution. But we need practical alternatives before taking big steps in that direction and the alternatives are just not ready yet. They're coming, but we need transitional periods where things like nuclear can tide us over until cheaper and more efficient renewables are ready for prime time. Just be real with us about EVs and everything else. The left colors all this stuff too positively leading the right to react to them negatively. We need people who can see and weight pros and cons more directly and honestly.

    I innocently (bless me) thought that when the battery was going flat and you switched your hybrid to petrol that the batteries would be getting recharged at the same time but I was told this is not the case. To me it would be a no brainer but perhaps there's something preventing this kind of technology.

    See, that should have been the end of the discussion, with that question. "If they are so great, why does government have to pay people to drive them?" Would there be an EV market if government ended all subsidies and supports for EV? Yeah, a small one. Really small.

  • @mr8ty8
    @mr8ty89 ай бұрын

    I refuse to drive EV until graphene (super conducting carbon nano cell) batteries are in place. It's double fast charge and goes double the distance and they are dry material batteries. Then I won't mind if I'm able to have 20% less distance on a charge when it is hot or cold. I would like to charge that car then also with fusion or fission nuclear power, please. Until then I like my diesel car just fine.

    Fine and dandy points. If gasoline cars are so swell, how come government subsidizes them so heavily? How come they've gone bankrupt? Liberty Pen, do better. This a very lopsided story here. Let talk about how Tesla is the MOST American automaker, with the most efficient production, the best margins and yet constantly bringing the price of their cars DOWN. Full disclosure: I'm invested on Tesla, and I think, for good reason.

    And let's talk about how Tesla is producing as much solar electric energy as all their cars have used to date. And how they are stabilizing the electric grid with battery storage to eliminate hugely inefficient coal and diesel "peaker" plants.

    Again with accurate but misleading information. Very disappointing but not unexpected this time. I expect nothing less from this channel regarding EV's. First question. Compered to what? Gas cars also have reduced range in cold weather, in hot weather their range actually increase a bit. Second question. You have to pay more to charge an EV now, but how does it compare to filling up with gas? Third question. Do the person talking about rural drivers take into account home charging when they say 200 miles of range is not enough? Fourth question. While I agree that EV's do not need incentives I do have to ask, compared to oil subsidies, how much is EV's getting?

    The bottom line is: Mandates are only required when persuasion has no chance. That is why EVs are both mandated and subsidized. The lady is either too ignorant or deceitful to mention give Sen Kennedy his answer. Otherwise, EV advocates would be happy to let the market decide superiority.

    @@fzqlcs I can go into the stupidity of the lawmakers thinking they need to mandate it but that's not the point of my post. This channel has a history of using true but misleading facts about EV's. The libertarian position assumes that all actors in it are well informed as an ideal. This act of deception without lying is counter to this ideal. It is especially irritating because you can't do this as well as they do without being very well informed. They are either being paid to misinform the people watching or are so against the heavy hand that is used to speed up EV adoption that they are willing to mislead their viewers to get them to act as they want. Either possibility speaks of a moral corruption that is no different than the people they are supposedly against. Well they can also just be very gullible, I doubt it but smart people are still fallible.
