For a coaster as old as it is, it's aged very gracefully. I got a ride on it last year, and it's still as smooth and fun as I remember it being in my childhood.

7:55 Actually you can calculate the length of this using... you guessed it... the Pythagorean Theorem. Just imagine the spiral wraps around a cylinder like the seam on a paper towel roll, and split that cylinder down the seam. Unroll it and you get a parallelogram, whose long diagonal edge is the length you want. Draw a line down to form a right triangle. The base is the circumference times the number of rotations, and the height is the height of the cylinder (ie: the lift hill). Plug into the Pythagorean Theorem to get the length of the spiral.
@MarsJenkar
Жыл бұрын
Yep. The three circles you used to get the length would be the "a", and the height would be the "b". Calculate "c" to get the length of track for the lift hill.

I only hope we can get something stand out soon since that is the one major flaw I think we have that keeps us from being super relevant. @@AirtimeThrills that the definition of the Midwest: flyover country. you know well where you are now in KS, their is nothing out here and people only come for a purpose and leave back to the coasts where all the action. also the distance between SFGA and any other major park such as WOF or dolly is a lot for any Roadtrippers.
My first coaster ever was The Whizzer when I was 11..I'm 42 now and after all these years going there it is true: you can't get bored. Don't sleep on Hurricane Harbor either. It was a real eye opener to see you rank Great America at number 6. I'm curious to see your full top 25 park ranking list. Outside of Great America I've only done Silver Dollar City, Holiday World, Kings Island ( my number 1 ), and Cedar Point. All parks I put ahead of Great America. Maybe I'm underrating my home park. Maybe I've just have had worse luck with crowds and operations lately than others. Or maybe I downgrade the park a bit because there's no true number one coaster. One thing I do agree on is Raging Bull is awesome. Especially once it warms up a bit and on a back row edge seat. Stick your legs out and arms up the whole ride its even better.
Love this series! And after visiting this park this past summer, nothing on here surprised me, except that I didn't realize on my visit that there was an enclosed Wild Mouse. I spent two-and-a-half days getting in as many rides as possible on Batman, Raging Bull, X-Flight, and Goliath instead. Something changed in the many years since my last visit, because on this most recent one, Viper was not fun at all (not rough, just no airtime in either the front or the back) and American Eagle was lots of fun (with surprisingly good floater air). I'm so glad Airtime Thrills appreciates Raging Bull, I still find that first drop to be elite!
My favorite coaster channel never quit my boy
I just started binging this channel and the first video he uploads after I got here is about my home park!
I love this park and being so close to it is a great plus

Most underrated airtime moments back row drops on the Morgan/arrow hyper‘s the weird Jenkee way it pulls you over the hill
My Mom and I went to Six Flags Great America for my first ever amusement park visit ever, and it was amazing. Being my first, I of course sadly did not have the courage to ride Goliath or V2, and my Mom just down right refused to ride the Joker, but it was fun nonetheless. Sadly Demon was closed but hopefully this year its open. I also thought I lost my hat in the Batman wild mouse coaster, but thankfully it ended up in the rear seats 😂😂 10/10 amazing park, would definitely go again and force my younger friends to ride with me lmao
My home SixFlags 😍 underrated indeed. Glad I still held on to my membership with flash pass 🤩 can’t wait for opening day
This is my home park, and I love it!
This is my home town park, I go almost every week and it never ever gets old, raging bull is by far my fav rollercoaster there, followed by V2 (vertical velocity), and viper. Giant drop is also really good too. If you haven't been there before I definitely recommend it, no matter how many times you go, you never get bored
I still remember riding Demon the first week of the re-theme. The song still haunts my dreams :)
love this series
Rank the removed coasters Iron Wolf(first B&M standup) and Z-Force. lol Shockwave was the giant 7 inversion Arrow. There was also Rajin' Cajun spinning wild mouse, The Edge and Deja Vu giant inverted boomerang. There was also the Schwarzkopf shuttle loop Tidal Wave. They almost removed Whizzer but the public threw a fit and saved it. Other parks got 4 of the removed coasters. It's a nice park... and flat... unlike Mountain Magic where you need to wear hiking boots to walk around the park.
Another banger. You should do a video on coasters with the fastest acceleration if you haven’t done anything like that already
I went today and I loved it! There wasn’t a single rollercoaster I didn’t enjoy and we went on all of them except for Maxx Force, Joker, and the kiddie rides. My favorites were Raging Bull, Goliath, and Batman (outdoors), though I liked them all! Ride in the back in Goliath and Raging Bull, it’s the best.
Ayy Great America! My home park!
I’m glad Great America is finally getting some hype. It’s super underrrated
This series is great, you should also do one for the other Great America in California
This park has some really successful experiments. Batman, Raging Bull, Eagle, etc.
I plan on making my first visit here on July 4th. This is easily the best park east of the Mississippi that I haven't been to yet & I can't wait.

@@AirtimeThrills We plan on swinging by Indiana Beach on our way back to Nashville. It will be our first time there too. That's a long road trip for just 2 parks but sometimes you just do what you have to do.
Prime ride time doesn't just start when the front car starts picking up speed off the lift; it's also when the rest of the train that front car is attached to starts picking up speed, which is best noticed in the back. I'd also argue that on coasters like El Toro it's when the train starts accelerating at a fasters pace once the front wheels encounter the track beginning to steepen into the drop after the 90 degree turn around from the lift hill to the beginning of the drop, where I'd imagine is where the top of that drop 176' drop is measured from, not the top of the lift hill. (I could be wrong about where that drop stat starts, but if I am then it makes that drop stat misleading, would you agree?) Loved the video, thanks for posting!
Yes I have been waiting
Woot! Home Park Love!
This is such a well rounded park, so many above average rides. It's just not touted amongst enthusiasts because it doesn't really have many world class rides

It actually still works here. You just need to imagine untwisting the spiral lift and your length will function as the new B squared for the theorem.
Funny that Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia, a "hypercoaster," has a shorter drop and lower top speed than Goliath at Great America.
Fun fact: six flags great America is home to 2 of the fastest wooden coasters in the world (Goliath and American eagle)
You know how hard rmc is gonna roast the roller coaster corporation of america
Thanks 👩🏾💻
Omggg I just went there yesterday and I only got to go on like half the rides lol
X-Flight will probably get cloned if Diabolical 's Cliffhangers turns out to be a succes.
my home park!
The pythagorean theorem still works here. You just take the circumference of the circle multiplied by the number of rotations and use that as your B squared with the height as your A squared. Your new C squared will be correct.
Nice video. Do you think great America will get a T. rex by rmc?
they should rmc the eagle or at least retrack it but im liking the idea of an iron eagle airtime machine being the standout this park need
A helical lift is just a straight triangular slope that happens to be wrapped around a cylinder. The horizontal length will be the circumference times the number of rotations. The height is the height. The Pythagorean theorem will still apply if you mentally unwrap the triangle. Think of it that way and you should be good to go with the geometry. From a mathematician's perspective, this is because the intrinsic geometry of a cylindrical tube is still flat--unlike a sphere, you could unroll it into a flat surface without stretching it--it's just embedded in 3D space in a curved way.
@tyleraldh7070
2 жыл бұрын
I was gonna suggest parameterizing the helix and evaluating an arc length integral. Helixes are easy to parameterize, you would just need to know the radius of the projection onto the xy-plane, the vertical separation between turns, and the number of turns. Your way doesn’t require calculus though
The helix only makes sense if it is racing. It was designed with that in mind. Now that the park only operates one side at a time it is pointless.
Can you do Orlando by the numbers next?
Nah, the massive helix is the best part eagle, how dare you disrespect it

@@AirtimeThrills I just did the math via Google Earth. The diameter of the spiral lift is 44.61 feet. Now multiply that by pi and then times three for three complete circles as it climbs the lift hill and you get 420.43 feet. Now have that as the base of the triangle, and have 70 feet for the height, we then can use the Pythagorean Theorem to figure out how long the lift hill is. So, 420^2 + 70^2 = 181300. And the square root of 181300 is 425.79 feet. So the spiral lift hill is 425.79 feet long.
