Because they're one of the most intelligent breeds, not prone to many heath problems & considered Hypo-allergenic. My father had one. She was so elegant, jumped like a gazelle and an honorary service animal. As she spent time most days at a place for elders with dementia. If my dad (rest well dad) showed up sometimes without her. They let him know their displeasure. She was loved by resident and staff. SHe only lived 13 years but maybe that was because she lovingly gave her all ~

We have a miniature and I grew up with a standard (although my wife and I have had dogs of several breeds, too). Every time we take Sophie for a walk, everyone says, “oh, what a cute doodle”. To which we say, nope, a poodle…the original. We can’t figure out what the attraction is for a Frankindoggie. What’s wrong with a poodle? The only things we can say is that the “doodle craze” is just that. Also, I think some people just want a dumbed-down dog. Sorry, just can’t see the plus side of getting a hybrid.@@TyraDavis_

My father pseudo fostered one once! He came with the house he rented! The woman that owned the house was/is one of the big people at Sam Adams Brewing. Boomer was his name, the dog! He was so much fun! My Dad rented the house for like 8 years! The dog pretty much became his! Sally (owner) would come down from time to time and take the dog for weekends into Boston! The beach was literally steps away! Great for taking the dog to run and swim! He LOVED the water! He would swim for hours if we let him!

Fantastic breed, doesn't shed, they're really smart, and they are definitely not the stereotype people think they are. Every single standard poodle describes this dog as a goofy dog lol. They are so much fun and so funny and love to goof off! I think it’s a disservice to the breed to describe them as just “smart” as they are so playful and fun loving and yes.. GOOfy!

one time i met a heavily disabled woman (i don't remember what she suffered with exactly, but she was dwarfed and had deformed body so she needed one of these wheelchairs that have a control panels, but she was not impaired mentally) with a standard poodle service dog. i happened to sit with her at a mall table during my lunch because there were no tables free, and we chatted a little. she said that poodles make amazing service dogs, but no professional service dogs trainer agreed to train a poodle for her, because they're difficult to work with. they're smart, but they tend to be too smart and can sometimes be conditional and stubborn, so she was training the dog herself. the dog was amazing though, it didn't take its eyes off her even for a second, she had its full attention all the time no matter what was going on around. it looked almost like a sculpture.
