Brilliant Clive James, just the right combination of genuine interest, humour and cynicism that we all used to love him for.

I have never seen this documentary, but it's really fascinating, I don't know if it was ever shown on itv in the nineties , but it's really good I think the late 70s to the early 2000s was F1s golden era .
It was a lot more work to produce a video of this quality back in the days before... well, back in the day. A masterpiece by a master craftsman featuring master craftsmen driving masterfully crafted, state of the art machines.
Pure class, the ultimate Aussie
Ahhh man, I was at this one! I was backpacking at the time and arrived in Oz in April 95: one of my best 'claim to fames' was that I was at the last GP in Adelaide and the first GP in Melbourne (actually ended up at 2 GP's in Melbourne, as the company I got a job with got my visa extended, so stayed in Oz for 20 months!). Damn, this is mad.... I cannot believe this was nearly 29 years ago...... where the hell did it all go???? (Oh, and I'm now 52, just in case anyone was wondering!! 🤣🤣)

Clive James, one of the greatest Australians of all time possibly. He did the reviews for 82, 84 and 86, all reccommended. Also did a wide variety of telly programmes for god knows how many years.

Clives use of language related to his subject matter is absolutely incredible. And he makes it sound so easy.
Clive was THE MAN. Dryest humor ever! he and Irvine seemed to get on well.
Wish we still had Clive today. A proper presenter.

Clive James was an absolute legend. Biting wit and hugely informative. Sadly missed.
What a treat, great video. Clive James always got it right between being witty and taking the pee. 95 was an interesting year, Barrichelo and Irvine hated each other, the other memory of this year was Murray Walker forever going on and on about how good Schumacher was!
This is GOLD, Mr. Clive James, hats off to you sir.
If they’d held Grands Prix for journalism, Clive James would’ve had the number 1 on his typewriter season after season. How lucky we were to have witnessed his genius. Great upload, Fifth Gear.
Clive was incredible, funny, witty, observant, intelligent and more than that he was just wonderful with his use of the English language and engaging the audience
A few days after this race at 8 am I drunkenly walked into a large fella on an Adelaide footpath at low speed. Clive laughed it off and helped me on my way. Lovely bloke. Could mix equally wit the top end of town and even me. Thanks Clive.
As a person who is pretty well versed in English literature, I greatly appreciate this. Never heard of him but I like his style of presentation
James was a first class writer, journalist, comedian and entertainer. He could make interesting even something as dull as cars driving around fast. Thanks for the upload.

It's funny, after spending 10 minutes saying how Hill and The Michael would come together, it was The Michael and Alesi who did instead as Hill walked off with the win
this is a really, really good bit of video.
We miss you Clive James......well I know I do. Legend.
I remember this from the day. Clive James was an amazing broadcaster, as this excellent documentary presented the world of 1990s F1. How young everyone looked!

I used to go to the Adelaide race and have been to the Melbourne but Adelaide had so much more than Melbourne, the track was better, the atmosphere was better but more importantly the racing was better
Thanks for posting. Clive James is the consumate entertainer. His love for F1 always shines. And showcasing Adelaide is a bonus for me.
brilliant documentary, thanks for uploading this!
Hakkinen was dying before intensive care specialists at the scene did a tracheotomy to allow him to breathe, as the base of his skull had been crushed; at the hospital, Mika received a new Australian medical technique that kept oxygen flowing to the brain after a significant head injury; this allowed him to fully recuperate.
I was there standing on the corner of the corner of Flinders and Hut Street photographing with the Italian F1 photographer Rossi. It was sickening when we heard that Mika Häkkinen had crashed and was struggling for life.
If you can, please download this video before KZread removes it. Clive James' videos keep getting harder and harder to find.
More of this please!!

Clive was so good.

The world is a less intelligent place without a man of the calibre of Clive James.
What a classic! Just getting damon and michael together next to eachother at the high of their rivalry! And then asking "damon what do you think of michael?"😅
Top notch F1 show. Fascinating. I’m a fan of many years and I learned some interesting bits from it
Clive narrated the 1984 and 1986 F1 seasons. From Joe. X

James was chiding Schumacher for not apologising for his on track collisions in 1995? Uh, two of those collisions were clearly Hill's fault - Silverstone and Monza.

You’ll really miss this era of f1. Its genuine racing, hype is organic, everyone is pushing for advancement of technology and you can really say its the pinnacle of motorsport. Nowadays its all funfare, too much gimmick and the off track happenings is more exciting than the racing itself 😂😂😂

This era is what got me into F1 and I used to regularly attend the Adelaide Grand Prix, racing today isn’t as entertaining as it was back then I for and the sport has suffered. I might be biased but the Adelaide track was also one of the best in the world and had everything to test the car and driver and gave for great racing where as if you compare it to Melbourne which took this race it’s dull and boring
Wonderful

Yes indeed. it's quite depressing, I'm just glad I got to see F1 at it's peak throughout the 80's and 90's.
Damon Hill was the only driver of that time to put pressure on Schumacher. Every time Damon was pushing him,Schumacher made a mistake. And! Yes after suffering that pressure he crashed and slewed his car into Damon.Without that Damon would have been two times world Champion. I still cannot understand till this day,why Damon didn’t just ease off and let Schumacher come to a stop! And then just drive round him. He says in his book that basically he didn’t have time to react in that way. Rubbish! Nigel Mansell would have backed off and let Schumacher come to a stop. And then won the Championship. Damon is an old school Gentleman. Williams treated him and Nigel like S@#£. Prost! Senna! Thought it was the way to an easy Championship. For Prost it was. Williams were “THE” team at that time. Where are they now ? Damon should have at the very least been three times Champion. But Williams with their bizarre thinking, ruined that. Well let’s just say Bloody Patrick Head, and that says it all! This Ar@#£& thought that every one of their Drivers should win every race. If they didn’t they were out. What an A@#£* Great Doc by Clive James.
Poor Andrea Murray. Looks like coulthard ditched her at some stage and she ended up dating Trump!
4:30 I love Clive, but he didn't seem to have actually watched the season as the two shunts of Schumacher and Hill in Hockeheim and Monza had been quite clearly Damon's fault. In fact in 1995 he had been quite mediocre.
By god the misogyny 😮
