What a great song and the addition of the girls for the harmonies along with Darwin. Tim, you are a genius! Johnny is spectacular! Imagine playing drums and bass at the same time. That takes an over-abundance of sheer talent. You guys are absolutely the best! Please accept my most sincere condolences on the loss of the great Scott King. We were heartbroken when we heard. Rest in peace, dear Scott.

Reminds one of the early videos, with great music played before a very small audience. That's true humility. The song is a classic, and well-played and sung. Strange how the girls keep disappearing....Look at how the women perform: Chase moving around and lively, Sammy poised and sometimes motionless, except to play with her hair. I still like the way Sammy loosened up on Ain't Nobody Love--just perfect for that song. Well done all of you, especially that multitasking Johnny Pike.

You do realise that Chase and Sammie have been added in post-production using the “green screen” technique? The original, socially distanced performance from July 4, 2020 at Hapeville Ga featured Tim, Johnny and Darwin. Three more songs from this show - Early Morning Rain, Piano Man and A Day In The Life - are also available on this KZread channel.

I’ve been playing this song since my friend Stevie Goodman wrote it back in 1971. It sometimes is portrayed as “The Greatest Train Song Ever Written!” John Cash. Of course, it took a beer and version of the song that Arlo Guthrie produced that brought Steve and his family royalties that actually paid for his visits to Sloan-Kettering Cancer in NYC. Since 1967, Steve dealt with a short, terminal live span, due to leukemia. Initially, he was give a year to live. 17years later, he succumbed to the cancer. During that time, I got to accompany Steve on bass during the New Year’s craziness and be a part of the celebration that was and still is held so closely by those of us who were there. I’ll suggest 2 more of Steve’s tunes for you to cover. He did 2 versions of Just Lucky I guess. One slow and full of guitar riffs and fills; the uses a more uptempo feel. Steve’s taste in music ran the gambit from folk to Cabaret and the Great American songbook. And, not only are you celebrating City Of New Orleans but you celebrate the life of Steve Goodman and all his creations. Thanks for this, Tim! PS The technologies that you folks have mastered allow those 2 funky background singers to apply their voices and images to the performance.

I never got to see Steve Goodman perform, before he passed away in the early 1980s. In the summer of 1985 I went to the Winnipeg Folk Festival, mostly just tagging along with some friends as someone who barely knew what folk music was. It turned out to be a life-changing experience. Steve had performed at Winnipeg many times, and that's when I first heard learned about him and heard his songs performed. "City of New Orleans" became one of the four songs (the others being Stan Rogers' "The Mary Ellen Carter", "Wild Mountain Thyme", and "Amazing Grace") traditionally sung by all the festival attendees and performers at the closing ceremony after the Sunday night mainstage concert. I went to this event four more times through the 80s and 90s and sang this song with thousands of others each time.

Another great cover from The Fossils and dubbed in Foxes. Usually I say that F&F musicians and singers remakes of older classics are better than the originals. I will admit I like this version as well as Arlo Guthries’s original cut. But I have been a fan of the late Steve Goodman for a long time and I hate to say it; but I still like his version a little better. He was such a talented songwriter, musician and singer taken from this life way to early.

Those complaints didn't do any good, so now I'm going to complain that I can't even give a 'love' reaction like in Zuckerland.
