I remember this. Construction work went on for 24 hours a day, it was like a preview of the craziness of the opening movie, It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World. Walking into the theater was breathtaking, huge, open space with little or no patterns, just curtains in a gold tone that would sweep around the side walls. Plush chairs and carpets, very modern. very 60's.

I was lucky enough to see Kubrick's 2001 A Space Odyssey at the dome in 1995. Glad I eas able to experience such a brilliant movie in this iconic building.

I am very proud and grateful to have been able to frequent this theater throughout my life. It is one of the best theaters in the world. ArchLight Cinemas has taken very good care with one of cinema's most unique theaters.

If they try to built it in 16weeks now in california it would takes 16 years .

It's a mad , mad ,mad world was shot in ultra panavison 70 and not Cinerama.It was fake Cinerama, equivalent to super scope being a fake wide screen process.Later ,in the south east.a new theater chain . call the ultra vision theaters would open up copying the Cinerama dome, except they would include rocking chairs.Premiere? Walt Disney ,non wide ,the boatniks and This is Ultravision,Wow wee!.

Part 2 This is Cinerama reissue,never came to this theater in 72,but, south pacific was reissued in this Theater in 72.So was Patton . My Fair Lady and Sound of Music and Dr Zihvago,Eventually it would become a twin theater and eventually torn down.Cinerama dome survived well.But it requires donations to keep it going

I think the curve at Dome was not the full 146 degrees. Someone will confirm. Even in the clip about the building it said 126 degrees. Always seemed shallower to me in still pics shown. Same with the famous Seattle Cinerama..and some others. Including I feel..Bradford in UK. Someone can correct me if needed. On the other hand if you saw 146 degrees in three strip ...wow. Auckland NZ Cinerama was a spiritual home for me when young. I tried to live there but not allowed. I even dream in Cinerama from my late childhood memories. Maybe my eyes were not big enough to cope then and made everything overwhelming....especially the clarity and peripheral vision. It was all about peripheral vision and it helped to sit in the cheap seats which were almost inside the curve. Nothing like it...ever. All the single lens stuff as someone else says was squeezed 70 mm. Good but not the same by any stretch. (Pardon the pun) Lack of clarity and depth of field mainly...
