The Church - Unguarded Moment
Музыка
The Church is an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1980. Initially associated with new wave and the neo-psychedelic sound of the mid 1980s, their music later became more reminiscent of progressive rock, featuring long instrumental jams and complex guitar interplay. Founding members are Steve Kilbey on lead vocals and bass guitar, and Peter Koppes and Marty Willson-Piper on guitars, while Tim Powles has played on drums since 1994. Three of the members recorded material as The Refo:mation in 1997.
The Church's debut album, Of Skins and Heart (1981), delivered their first radio hit "The Unguarded Moment". They were signed to major labels in Australia, Europe and the United States. However, the US label was dissatisfied with their second album and dropped the band without releasing it. This put a dent in their international success, but they returned to the charts in 1988, with the album Starfish and the US Top 40 hit "Under the Milky Way". Subsequent commercial success proved elusive, however, and the band weathered several line-up changes in the early 1990s. The last decade has seen them settle on their current line-up. On 27 October 2010, The Church were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in Sydney.

I was at an AFS campout and met my first Aussie in 1981. He gave me his cassette tape of The Church. My first intro to this song happened that night. Been Loving ever since.

Love the Aussie music scene. So many good bands from down under, then and now.

What a great song.
I was hooked on The Church from the moment that this song came out all those years ago (I was about 18) and that guitar riff still gives me goose bumps. My wife and kids love them too and they gave me a penchant for long sleeved paisley shirts!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, I remember this coming out. Loved it then, love it now, getting on for forty years later. I've always rated it as being up there with the later Under The Milky Way.
Love The Church but this is just the best. 40 years later ❤

I remember seeing them many times, but one gig that stands out for me was at the Comb and Cutter in Blacktown, sometime in 1981.
My goodness . I have always loved ( and still do ) this melody so incredible much , yes since the start of the 80's ❤❤❤
That backdrop…glorious…perfect debut…
Brilliant 💚💛
a big place in my heart for SK and The Church. Solo SK shows are brilliant

@@paulcollins5586give it a rest it's an Aussie band. You sound like the plonkers who say ACDC is Scottish. I am sure Kilbey, who came to Australia when he was five, for goodness sake, will tell you it's an Aussie band. Btw are Freddy Mercury and Queen not English performers because Freddie didn't set foot in England till he was over 15. By your reasoning Freddie is 3x less English than Kilbey is Aussie.
Loved The Church, classed as new psych here in the UK at the time. Still have the vinyl (and CD) releases up to Séance which I was not so keen on.Lots of rarities 10" and 12" singles EP's etc , and the original album came with different track listings in the UK and Australia.Great band!
Great songs and always loved the 12 string sounding guitar. Practically wore out "Of Skins and Heart" on "Vinyl" listening to it. Glad there's re-issues of their music on CD's. :)

Has a late 60's vibe.
Sooo love it
That backdrop is the perfect backdrop for this song
still sounds so fresh
used to follow them all over Sydney to hear them play
I was there .
Guitar based new wave is the best. I was never one for synth heavy tracks
Loved it then love it now
So hard finding inspiration I knew you'd find me crying Tell those girls with rifles for minds That their jokes don't make me laugh They only make me feel like dying In an unguarded moment So long, long between mirages I knew you'd find me drinking Tell those men with horses for hearts That their jibes don't make me bleed They only make me feel like shrinking In an unguarded moment So deep, deep without a meaning I knew you'd find me leaving Tell those friends with cameras for eyes That their hands don't make me hang They only make me feel like breathing In an unguarded moment
So hard finding inspirarion
How effing brill was that !!!!!!!
Thank you from the bottom of my -3.
This is better than the other blurry videos of the song that are up (thank you), but those gestures at the beginning....ouch, Steve.

Funny Fact: Unguarded Moment was not liked by Steve Kilbey and the band did not feel it should be on the album. Thankfully, their producer insisted it make the cut .....
Great stuff miss if
Starfish...a classic album 1988.

that was the fault of countdown, when Bon Scott (ACDC) was told he couldn't play live he played dressed in drag as a school girl kzread.info/dash/bejne/gq1-qMWsnpuoYJs.htmlsi=22lUHdZsJLJFNhtU
Saw them at the keystone in Palo Alto opening for PIL (Keith Levene era) there were maybe 200 people .. that show did not not suck
Another classic, l went to the ferntree gully pub one night to see them in the late 80's, Steve has such a unique voice, especially when he belts it out, l was in awe of him, had to see him live. love the countdown clip...thanks, cheers eve
This is not a live recording of Unguarded moment and I don`t care. The Church is the best Rock Band ever anyway. Scandinavia salutes you.
Many years ago I played with a band that covered the, I believe B-side, of this? A song that contained the line ... "You left me no emotion, just poetry in motion" ... Plastic Flowers? If anyone can upload it I'de be very grateful! Thanks!
Shout out to Cathy Wenham :)
Who else had to come here to get this? Not currently available in iTunes.
I would love someone to upload the official video of this song. Can someone please confirm that it showed knights duelling on horses. Or am I dreaming????

@@Themanwhocameback2 I think there was a European show of the same name, but the Australian version was notable for a wide range of breakthroughs and instigations in the very early video age. To name a few - Abba's global domination from relentless playing of their videos, Blondie breaking out into pop then mega stardom via the same means, and the actual production and then broadcast of the very first videos of AC/DC.

I loved their work. They hit the "gear" a bit too hard. Bloody shame. The first album was a cracker!
the drummer looks about 12
COULD YOU PLSE FIX BAND NAME IN TITLE? Not CURCH!
The church mouse ✝️🚹✌😂
The Church is not British although their stylish pop new wave seems raw Manchester.
Nice rip-off of "Ticket To Ride"
*Like the use of an ironic stained glass background*
