Absolute classic song what an amazing yet very underrated band

I'm transported back to 1982 every time I hear this song. To that Sunday afternoon in April when I first heard it.

They were not really Australian. As kilbey and Wilson piper are English. And koppes is of Greek heritage. But yeah, they took their chance down under.

@@mjscott65 Well some were born elsewhere but they spent time growing up in Australia and they formed the band in Australia and they got their start and were loved in Australia more than anywhere else and those that members that remain in Australia consider it their home plus they are mostly distinctly Australian in their personas so imho they are Australian; maybe Wilson-Piper not so much. Not many people are "Australian" if being born here is what counts you as Australian. For me it's largely about someone growing up here and from that they have an Australian character/persona. [Speaking as someone from 4-6 generations here]

What a Classic

I always felt a privilege to be a fan of the greatest least known band. I would try to see them live when they passed through SF. even went backstage once to hang out.

Same here. Life's Rich Pageant was released when I was a college freshman, then The Church's first three records were re-released. I saw The Church in Tallahassee. Amazing.

I saw them at Selina's when Heyday came out incredible light show place was packed and fools we're climbing up the large speakers.

saw the Church play live many times during the 80s, one of the best was at the Venetian room at the Hotel Francis in lonsdale street melb , tiny little place with psychedelic lights on the dance floor,in about 83 or4,loved the venetian room, used to go there all the time.

Ha Ha so named because of the Venetian blinds on the windows on the front windows of the upstairs band room. Saw so many bands there, The church and Le Hudo Gurus to name a few.

Much agreed! 10000th of the talent that bands don't have nowadays and considering The Church are still together and going strong! 30th album by now!

Cosmos3001 why is this not on their own channel, then? A band that was still together and active that recently ought to have all their music on their own channel, not a fan channel. Much appreciated that you are here, since apparently they're not - but they're missing out on revenue here.

Not just an amazing song with great guitar: The creative visual work in the clip was truly something. In the final scene: The moment when the doors are opened and through the mist is the armoured figure: And as he lifts his sword, the light magically produces those swords/crosses in its reflection.... (Before digital technology).

This is a VHS footage, that's why it sounds high pitched
