RotDSKyle07 I was a huge fan of Butcher Bay. But I'd heard that the multiplayer on Dark Athena was terrible, and that the gameplay was already considered dated by the time it released. I don't care about the multiplayer, but dated gameplay? I played DA for the first time last week, and I was very pleasantly surprised with it.

Loren Helgeson Yeah, I wouldn't even say Riddick's gameplay is even dated today. The game engine itself was just different to the norm, especially today. Nowadays the player is just a camera with no legs and too much hand holding. In Riddick and other games like it, with your actual player body in the world, you just get a feeling of how to connect blows, get a feeling of where bullets will land. It feels much more immersive, in my opinion, than other games that provide simpler points of view. If that's nailed down, there's zero need of providing insulting and intrusive tutorial pop ups and whatnot.

TheSteelStallion Yeah, the whole statement of "outdated" struck me as weird. The only other game I've seen that uses that style of gameplay (first person fighter) was Namco's "Breakdown" from 2004. Maybe Mirror's Edge to some extent, although I honestly didn't get far enough into the demo to know if hand-to-hand combat was used.

+Loren Helgeson Mirror's Edge combat was lame in comparison to this game. but it was kinda realistic to your player's capability's. i really enjoyed the riddick games. it's to bad it wasnt further expanded on. but it was great to have this experience add on to the story and where he got his eyeshine. the movies kinda eluded to this but the games really helped you understand his character and story more. i think it would have been cool if the same developers came up with other titles that did another look into the movies. that would further expand the chronicles of riddick universe. to me. i like to think of these games as the movies that came before the actual movies. it brings new meaning to interactive movies if you think about it. just think about the gaming that is available now days. and the capability's that new gaming platforms now have. this genre could basically be like mass effect. but a much different outlook and universe displayed to the viewer. in the movies you see riddick piloting space crafts and putting himself into cryosleep for the long journey ahead. and then entering into battle with that ship. then escaping. to blending in with the world he is on. i could see him engaging in fights with street gangs to eluding the law enforcement progressing further into the story. the only thing i don't think i would see is an open world game for this genre. maybe in part. but not a full blown open world.
