The Christopher Columbus Lighthouse and Tomb

This cross-shaped lighthouse is said to serve as a mausoleum for the famous explorer Christopher Columbus. The big controversy occurs with Spain also claiming to be his final resting place, creating an interesting debate for history lovers ... "Is Columbus really entombed in Santo Domingo?".
Locally known As Faro a Colon, this monument can be visited in Santo Domingo east. The interior acts as a museum that showcases displays and artifacts of cultures that have contributed to the region, and be sure to also check out the armored Pope vehicle while you are there. The Columbus Lighthouse is an attraction you don't want to miss while visiting Santo Domingo. You will have to take a taxi from the Colonial Zone, as the police don't like for tourists to just go walking about. I learned this the hard way ... twice 😅
