Virtual Ancient Rome in 3D - Baths of Caracalla, 13 minute detailed video tour
We invite you to expore our 3D reconstruction of famous baths of Caracalla - one of the most magnificent and enormous buildings of ancient Rome. During the 13 minutes we will walk around outside and inside, and visit the most interesting locations - open swimming pool, cold, warm and hot baths, as well as enjoy walking in the gardens outside.
Our goal is to create the most extensive, detailed and accurate virtual 3D reconstruction of the Eternal City. And this reconstruction is one of the most important parts of it. We're presenting the 2.0 edition (the 1.0 was long ago, in 2012), and I hope we have done much improvement in accuracy and realistic details of the baths. However, it is not the final result for sure, we will be improving this 3D reconstruction further, correcting something, adding details, according with the new data investigations.

Wanting to profit is natural for all eras including that of ancient rome. The reason is that people back then couldn’t get away with ugliness because it was deemed immoral. Perhaps we should embrace this ideal today as well.
It blows my mind how lovely and intricate their buildings were. There's nothing like that today.
I have visited the remains of the Baths of Caracalla and found them to be magnificent and extremely impressive. This reconstruction puts some flesh on the bones and really shows off what incredible designers, architects and builders the Romans were. Even if the images of the wall coverings here are not completely accurate, they still give an idea of what the Baths would have looked like.
In planning of buildings we have Not surpassed the Roman's.. great conception of a building

That's Roman architecture for you, they don't fail to impress and leave you awestruck. Style and aesthetics are key to its success. The golden ratio, which is used in ancient classical architecture is akin to Feng Sui, I reckon, since it looks and feels naturally balanced. Also, the bold and monumental style reflects Roman confidence, dominance, ability, and most of all, power. Architecture is ideal propaganda, even if it's subliminal.
Even seeing it in ruins is magnificent.

The baths could accommodate up to 1,600 people at a time, 8,000 a day. They were opened to all people including enslaved people. A lot of apartments had running and toilets, no bath. And it was way more than just baths: library, meeting place etc...Amazing and for the people (Also a way for the emperor to show his wealth and power)

Thanks for sharing this as it was both interesting and visually engaging. I was curious to ask how you were able to confirm details that have been eroded or otherwise lost after the Baths were closed. With over 1300 years having passed since it closed, sometimes I wonder how many details about its history have simply been lost in the interim. If we could look back in time, would the Baths likely look as depicted? Or is this a general representation of the best guess that historians and archaeologists have given us? It would be interesting to know a bit more about the research that went into determining how this amazing building might have looked long ago. Sites like these Baths are interesting to me, as they've somehow survived to the present era, in spite of generally being disused for centuries. Their incredible longevity is amazing and doubly when one considers how rapidly modern buildings fall apart after being abandoned.

Thanks! Of course we cannot recreate the baths as accurate as they are, since they they have been constantly pillaged for centures. But the surviving archaelogical traces, sculptures, fragments of marble and stucco decorations allow us to represent as they could actually look like, among with methods of comparison with other contemporary buildings etc.
