On the one hand, it's a bit eerie that it's so empty and quiet, but on the other hand, it makes the experience of Pompeii better without all the noise. This my favorite video tour of Pompeii.

The upgrades and excavations made to Pompeii since I was last there in 1993 is simply incredible. Back then it looked like a archeological site...today it looks like Augustus could come strolling out of a corner thermopleum.

Thank you so much for a great video. On 29th April 24, I visited Pompeii, with a guided tour and then on our own. We saw the recently opened House of the Vettii. That was stunning. We also visited Herculaneum. Your videos have helped orientate us around both :-)

Loved that you didn’t feel the need to add music to the video. The sound of your foot steps on the gravel and cobblestones is very relaxing. I’ve been twice as a chaperone for a student group as a quick stop with a 1 hour tour before heading to catch the ferry to Greece. There is just so much to see and your video showed me all the back alleys, and nooks and crannies I’d love to spend hours exploring.

It would be amazing to see a cast of robed actors playing the part of these ancient Pompeians going about their daily lives. Of course, it's in ruins so it's limited how much they could do without some reconstruction. Pompeii had a population estimated at about 11,000 to 11,500. Thanks for the tour. A walk back in time when life was more simple and short, the threat of war always there, part of culture. History and time stands still here. It's all mind boggling.

Thank you. I love history docs, and tours of historical sights. Why I enjoy this video is because of lack of extraneous dialog. No blah, blah, blah about non relevant, or personal material, plus slow, carful panning of the area. Thank you again.

This is a very interesting, enjoyable and beautiful learning experience, thank you for taking this long journey and sharing it with us, also preserving it for many more people. When I was 14, my mum took me to the top of Vesuvius and to Pompeii. I have been struck and fascinated ever since I'd read a Readers' Digest collection in a book, with a story about Pompeii. That got me hooked, around the age of 8 or so. The journey has been a font of memories, which I've shared with friends many times. Thank you for putting the subtitles, indicating valuable information. It is very rare to see a place like this empty, and it gives you the chance to appreciate it in a whole new way. It is so impressing what great architects the Romans were, their providing fresh water, a sewage system, plumbing, etc. It had mod cons we didn't rediscover until much later. Seeing all the sad figures in the museum, including a poor, once chained dog in the throes of agonizing death impacted me very deeply. It was a powerful experience then and I'm so glad that thanks to modern technology, the city is now being recorded by modern means, to the point where they've even found charred scrolls, & with laser, etc., these writings may be virtually unwrapped and even deciphered. It boggles the mind. Again, thank you for your very fascinating journey into history.

Sure, I'd love to see it in person but I've been to Italy and I can translate my stay there to incorporate this tour as if I had actually gone. @deniselkinne 1131 Yes, I loved seeing the little kitty, too. I hope it's being given food by the staff or survives well in that area. I feel badly for all the humans, especially slaves, maybe even gladiators as well as for all the poor animals at the time of the eruption, who were restrained and could not run to save themselves, and no one thought of releasing them. I hope all the souls who perished, including in the amphitheatre, are able to rest in peace.
