Quinn, I like the musicality of your ear and playing. Very lyrical. As good as they come in your own way. I’ll start looking for tickets. You sing well! With blues, seems like most of the top draws sing the classics. They work and there are plenty of them. Re-interpretations. Of course, Eric Clapton, Johnny Winter and many others come to mind. I’ll look for your breakout song!

When SRV died, I didn't think we would ever again see that combination of knowledge taste soul and fluidity in such a high concentration in one human, until now. Not only has the Universe blessed us again with such a talented conduit to channel the soul of the ages, this new incarnation can sing like an angel. Writing more modern, soul inspired songs, not just blues? This is a fine day people, we have been blessed.

I’ve known Quinn, since he was born, as I know his parents, he’s a great guy and very talented, but what a lot of people don’t realize, as a very little kid it was the Beatles that inspired him to play guitar, he was like 6 years old and he knew how to play all the Beatles songs and the solos, he was unbelievable really. He was sort of steered into the Blues prodigy, I’m sure he loves and appreciates the blues, but I always wanted him to be more like Jeff Lynne, or Todd Rundgren, I believe he’s got it in him too make some great music!

Ive been known about him since he was like 6-7 and aired on ellen degenerate channel. Then i seen his live performances with buddy guy when he let him on stage to perform with him i think quinn Sullivan was about 9-10. Years old at that time. Then he made a blues song about buddy guy and a blues album then he kind of went pop or something and i stopped following him. Ive heard a few of newer songs on the radio i knew it was him right away not my style of music but the songs were decent nothing that fully show cases his true talent and full potential. Im happy for him ill start watching him and following him again once he goes back to blues genre. There was another kid before him named jimmy bowskill he was absolutely phenomenal. He never got really noticed or appreciated the way he deserved now hes in some kind of folk band in canada. He used to play blues and heavy rock n roll again i stopped following him once he stopped playing rock and blues music. The point is most talented people dont get the accolades they deserve while the katty perrys and Brittany spears who arent talented or taylor swifts make all the money and fame. Its a shame honestly and has destroyed the evolution of music really.. now everyone sounds the same.

I’m going to comment on his solos. Quinn never forgets the pocket. Despite being front and center, he never lets his interpretations destroy the tempo. He seems to be unselfish in returning dead on with the percussion. Here’s a kid that leaves his ego at the door and plays with the band rather than the band playing with him. It must be a gas to play in his band.

Being a great guitarist is MUCH more than having a mastery of the fretboard or having speed or technique that’s unique. One must also have a deep and abiding love of the instrument and the ability to express oneself through it like only they could. They also must have an almost infinite knowledge of the equipment that they use to obtain the exact tone, tenor, punch, volume and trill for that particular passage; and that comes only by experience, experimentation and a vision of that perfect sound for every passage or phrase that the player produces. The ONLY way this can happen,(it’s not by accident), is to have hundreds or even thousands of hours with an instrument in your hands. This Quinn does seemingly without effort. This goes not for guitarist only, but any instrument for that matter. I marvel from hearing and seeing people such as Quinn, that not only have an uncommon amount of innate ability, but through hard work and persistence, have cultured that ability to a level that few dare to dream of. Quinn is obviously a prodigy; and is a prodigy coming to his own. NOW . . . If he can stay away from helicopters, and small planes, he may have a long and successful career. 👍😎👍

I totally agree, he mentioned Clapton more than once and I was hearing more Knopfler-like tones, styling, and modalities (I too am referring to that last song, "She's Gone.." (?), specifically the solo...it was brilliant for sure). Not knocking Clapton, but Knopfler does not seem to get the attention he deserves now that I think about it. While Clapton is great at what he does, he is far more of a derivative blues player (not songwriting obviously) and Knopfler is not like anyone else. You know it is him when you hear him, Clapton not so much, or not always I should say..in my opinion. I know many other guitarists like myself that say this privately about Clapton (because it is frankly almost an Emperor's new clothes situation.... you can get punched out LOL). In my anecdotal experience the biggest Clapton nuts are people that have never lifted a guitar. Again, not saying he is not amazing, has his moments, but he definitely has times where he noodles, mails it in you might say, uninspired. I would not say this about his songwriting. He is a genius at that. Oh, I forgot to add I agree with 12 bar blues, pentatonic wanking, getting boring after a little. It just does, let's be honest. Having said that, I could bear more than 2 Stevie Ray probably LOL. Maybe 3 or 4. Friggin monster.

It's difficult, honestly, to take a child prodigy and help him/her find a path to the future while making the most of their talents. So many sadly burn out due to the pressure their own notoriety gives them. This is true of musical prodigies, or math/science/whatever, it doesn't matter. They're still kids. I'm glad THIS young man survived that and grew into a respectable talent all on his own. I compare him at 17 more to Jeff Beck, then he drifted, again to me, into the melodic eloquence of Knopfler and, yes, Clapton, but he's his own man from there. I hope he'll find his own defining music in time. He has a decent voice to join with his music as well. There's another prodigy coming up that has an incredibly bright future. He's a true virtuoso who's been not just covering but composing blues riffs since he was a pre-teen, name Toby Lee. He was on stage with more than a few players since he was VERY young, and continues to produce. He has a YT channel as well if you're interested in this amazing talent. I'm sure young Toby could learn from Quinn regarding maturing into a unique talent all his own. Another note, Buddy Guy is one of the most giving blues players that ever existed. He was onstage at Antone's in Austin when I first saw Stevie Ray Vaughn. He's showed enormous respect and support for SRV at the time, even one time taking his guitar and hiding it off stage. I love what he did for this young talent as well.

I'm so tired of ppl like you who clearly don't understand what they mean by "feel". You simply don't connect to Joe's phrasing. That's literally it. And that's why you tend to think his playing is forced. It is simply forced in your opinion because you don't hear what you want to hear from Joe that you hear from that kid. And after listening to that kid, you gotta be kidding me. They sound exactly the fucking same. Both professionals. Their technique and touch are both on point. Quinn Sullivan is an amazing young talent. His tone is pure and clear, he doesn't resort to shredding to make "his noise." His phrasing is complete, his ideas are fully formed and he comes to resolution of each musical idea. He doesn't leave any ends dangling. His songwriting is interesting; so many "players" these days are "all over the place" in trying to make their story work. "She's Gone" isn't the most original lyric but it is well thought out. His solo on the song is brilliant. I am writing this as I listen...He reminds me of a young Eric Clapton, maybe not groundbreaking in his riffs, but no doubt Quinn could "hang" with Eric on any piece. And Clapton would admit that himself. I don't like Joe Bonamassa; he's all over the place with no sense of theme or lyric. I hear him and I walk out of the room. Call it my problem, but it is what it is. Going in an adult contemporary direction is not bad. This is my introduction to Quinn. When he was 17 he sounded like a very young Stevie Ray Vaughan. Stevie labored in the bars in Austin until it came together for him. Obviously Quinn's musical ideas matured at a much younger age. Quinn has taken a more sophisticated turn which will serve his career well. If he can stay away from the bottle and the needles and coke spoons, he's going to have a gigantic career...if there are any more gigantic careers left after Covid and governmental nonsense. Thanks Simon. You're new to me as well. I'm always curious about the progression of an artist's career. You've put together a very succinct and professional presentation of Quinn Sullivan unlike I've seen before. Having good video footage is rare on emerging young artists as they grow. Hats off for a good show.

I can understand if you dont like joe bonomassa hes pretty arrogant. But he was one of the first blues child prodigy and johnny lang. I can tell you joe is a perfectionist and knows all the blues riffs, licks, solos people try to challenge him and they always run into a road block and are appalled by how truly talented of a musician he truly is. Most people think hes only blues guitarist but he listens to all the rock and jazz stuff too and knows all those riffs. My dad doesn't like him either but when i listen he truly does have the cleanest riffs and solos and can shred. I think he doesn't let his solos build and breathe and doesn't let notes hold and sustain long enough getting everything out of each note. He gets to excited and wants to shred all the damn time and i can agree he goes all over the place remimds me of slayer guitarist lol that damn guy loves to throw in like 5-7 random solos in every song and your like wtf my guy why you have to go and ruin it.. What i do know is joe seems too really love bb king and the guitarist from the band free and bad company so i can here where he gets his strong vibrato from immensely. Joe is obsessed with guitar and the crazy thing is we haven't heard or seen his fullest potential either which is good means he hasn't plateau yet. I think tab benoit is the man though and hes doing good things for this earth as well amazing talent and human being.

@@cryptonator1988 Many of your comments about getting carried away with the riffs and how his playing and songs are not well structured. Eric Clapton sat at a B.B. King concert in the 90's and came way with a new and profound respect. These two guys had known each other 30 years by then and you would think they covered it all in and out and upside down. Clapton related, "what I am still learning that B.B. is showing is that 'less is more.' In other words, it was the emotion that filled the space between the notes that elevated the song. To that point EC had his "reliable phrasing and 'runs'" that he could plug into any song or jam session and make them sound original. But he had never considered that the single phrase, the single idea could establish the identity of the song. Eric walked away saying "I thought I knew something about the guitar but I don't believe I will ever be as talented as B.B. I have a lot still to do." One aspect that B.B., EC and others deeply rooted in the blues did was to make the solos continue the story as an extension of the lyrics. The solos echo the theme of the lyrics and describe the pain or the joy of what the bluesman is testifying to. Examples of this are Claptons' main and outro solos on "Double Trouble" with Steve Winwood at Madison Square Garden, and the different solos of the original studio version of "River of Tears." In each song, the solos continue the expression of pain and sorrow told in the lyrics. Eric makes that axe howl and scream like no other. On Double Trouble, I close my eyes to hear the solo cry out its complaints and the things that happened to cause its state. It is a masterful work. Take a listen: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fIJ41sWNqKzKe6w.html Bonnamassa knows the instrument, no doubt. He needs to go deeper inside to find the musical maturity to step up to the next level. When a 55 year old Eric Clapton, with a a career of 35 years, says about a 80 year old B.B. King, who had been at it for 60 years, that "he needs to learn more," then it's plain that the process of musical maturation and depth performance is an ongoing development

Simon, Thanks for making this compilation of Quinn. It was very interesting to follow this young man's progress. I would like to hear him play a few styles of music, also. I have seen many of the greats, playing blues, R&B, Rock n Roll, right on up to jazz. It is more than playing fast, like Santana, Clapton. It is about creating a signature style. Are there any new styles yet undiscovered? I am a big fan of David Gilmour, who doesn't play the fastest, but bends those strings to get his sounds. So, from the 60's yo now, there are many artists I admire, from the blues men to rock, to jazz. From Hendrix to Clapton, Santana, Alvin Lee, Bonamassa, Benson, Beck, Vai, Satriani, SRV, Van Halen, Page, Blackmore, Knoopfler, May, Hammett, Jack White, Gales, Trucks, Carter, Strauss, Amato. There are many others who are good, and get noticed for song something just a little bit different. There is a sweet spot there, and if you can find that, or just make it your own, just love what you are doing, that is the main thing, have fun up there, and the crowd will follow you.
