Living in Holland, it's amazing that in the US you can buy this car, with this level of performance, power, mid-engined V8, for a base price of 60.000 dollar. That is the bargain of the century. Over here, with CO2-emissions based tax, the C8 will be way over 100.000 EUROs. What amazes me most however, is that GM can build a car with this level of engineering and on the other hand build aweful, plastic, average driving, cheap quality family SUVs and hatchbacks. GM should put the people who developed the C8 in charge of their entire car division. Great review again Tom. Please keep doing what you're doing.

It is interesting that GM recently moved a lot of the Corvette engineers to the division that will be doing electric and autonomous vehicles. My feeling is that they want the Corvette enthusiasm to be transferred to these other cars.

I worked for gm in the late 90s. Sometimes that company felt like the head never knew what the arms or legs were doing (resulting in some craptastic cars). But they've always had the engineering and resources to build good stuff when able to get out of their own way.

I like this channel and have followed Tom since his NYT days, but I think the issue is that the videos are too slick - they feel more like TV than KZread. To be clear I’m a fan, but I think that’s why you see personalities who seem to put in significantly less craft get an order of magnitude more views.

This hopefully goes without saying, but your humor, narrative style, and attention to detail are so appreciated! And for the record, cruddy volume knobs are absolutely one of those tactile faux pas that can really impact daily life with an automobile, so a more than valid quip. Y'know, passion project or no, I bet you've got more than a handful of viewers who would love to support Driven financially if given the chance. Just sayin' :)

I am the proud owner of a C8 that is loaded. It is everything you say and then some! Couldn’t be happier. I know it’s not my place to ask but may I ask what you do for a living? I’m 15 and corvettes have always been my dream car. I wanna own one one day but I doubt I ever will. Did you get a loan for it?

@@JohnDoe-be6qp I'm sure he got a loan. I can't tell you what to career to choose, but I can give you some advice. Be very careful about your credit score. If you do go to college, make you sure you pay at least your minimum payments after you graduate. Most college loans will not expect you to start paying until graduation. Make sure tho. Another thing, once you're employed (regardless if you go to college or what you do) get a credit card, but be very careful. Only spend the amount you actually have on a month to month basis. Use it like a debit card, and pay the bill at the end of the month. If you loose your job, DO NOT use the card. Once you're on your own, use a credit card to pay your bills, then pay it off at the end of the month as well. It's not hard to get a good credit score, but once it's bad, it's really hard to bring it up. If you have good credit, life is much easier. Still Not easy, but it definitely helps. Good luck

And say if I were to make enough money a month to pay all my bills and needs with my paycheck and not a credit card, would a credit card still have any use? Does a credit card save me money? @@JohnDoe-be6qp you want to pay your bills with the credit card instead of cash or debit, only to help you with your credit score. When you need a loan for a house or a car, the bank is going to look at your credit score. If you do what I said, you'll have a long history of credit and it will be good creidt. What that does, is it will get you bigger loans with lower interest rates. It costs you less to lend more. If you don't have good credit, it's going to be really hard to ever buy a nice house or nice car. It's extremely important and I wish someone would have told me this when I was your age.

Yes that's to add credibility to Chevrolet.. but in reality GM treat the Corvette as if it was a stand alone marque. This is gorgeous and the styling inside and out can't be faulted when you consider the price. 0 to 60mph in 2.9 seconds is amazing..I want one...ps. we are getting them in right hand drive also.

This is a base Corvette...entry level..its fantastic..inside and out it looks gorgeous. For the cost..its got no equal. The exterior is like all Corvettes..gorgeous..but it's the interior with its modern contemporary look that makes porsche audi bmw look dull. The ride quality is superb also.0 to 60mph .2.9 seconds ..wowwww.

Its 495HP. Its got lots of equals that are ferociously faster. Perhaps the most obvious is the faster (says Dragy), half price, C7 base model. John Hennessy has a lot of base model C7 vs C8 videos up. The C7 devastates the C8 across all speed and handling categories. If the C7 wasn't the be all and end all, the C8 is only worse. A lot worse.

America has been churning out very impressive cars offering value than their German "luxury" counterparts. From the Jeep SRT/Trackhawk, Lincoln Aviator to the new Corvette... Brilliant! As always, great review Tom.

Here's my recommendation to resolve all of GM's woes. Gather each and every engineer, designer, manager, and accountant currently employed by Chevrolet. Hand pink slips to each one who is NOT associated with the Corvette. Turn over the entire Chevrolet division to the Corvette folks. Not because every vehicle has to be a Corvette but because any group of people who can design and build a vehicle that meets its mission so well at a price point that is almost unbelievable should be running Chevrolet or perhaps all of GM. P.S. Ain't early autumn around Fall City and Snoqualmie a delight!

Pretty sure the Corvette doesn’t make GM any money. If they did what you said, GM would be bankrupt (again) and there would be no Corvettes. So think twice.

With the possible exception of Tadge Jeuchter, everyone on the Corvette team is involved other GM products and projects, I suspect...so good luck with that... And that's only the 1st of the problems with that idea.

The Corvette has always been the diamond in the rough at GM. It is their baby. The sole automobile that demands the best of the maker. So don't expect ANY other vehicle in their lineup to possess the same quality and refinement.

Magnificent beast. Almost perfect, could be louder. Really great car.

Absolutely gorgeous! I keep hearing people complain it doesn't have a high Rev screaming v8. I would never give up the NA low rumble high torque 6.2. Always watch you on the big screen 4k. Beautiful locale

Tom, your videos are GORGEOUS. I just wish you would take the time to place your mid-roll ads (totally fine) at logical breaks in the content, rather than the "auto" setting you currently use. Currently, your content is disrupted mid sentence and sometimes mid word. It's 5 minutes of time that would really improve the experience.

Incredible video. The panoramic screens were so nice and the corvette color combination is my favorite.

I have dreamed of and planned on owning a 718 GTS 4.0 6-speed since the day it was announced. It's the most desirable representation of the 718 platform, in my opinion. That said, I too could easily see myself owning a loaded C8 Z51 instead...and for at least $20k less. This car deserves serious consideration by anyone shopping for an exotic, although they might prefer to wait for the more extreme C8 variants to drop. This naturally aspirated base engine is preferable to me.

This is going to be a historic moment in car culture. It's crazy. Hopefully in the next couple years I can afford one. Never thought I'd say that about an awesomely built mid engine monster.

I watched this on a 65” in 4K, and had to rewind twice because the views kept distracting me from what Tom was saying. Looks incredible.

I found this review to be really nicely done, with great camera work and and precise and enjoyable coverage of the car's features. It has to be the most positive review I have seen since the major complaint is the volume control knob! The comparison of the C8 and the 718 GTS 4.0 (a far more expensive car) is the same that Car & Driver recently did. I think the 718 is probably preferable as a track car, being lighter, smaller and with a manual transmission, but for doing that cross-country trip it would be not nearly as enjoyable as the C8. As to Chevrolet quality, I have owned a C6 (6MT, Z51) for five years and it has been the most trouble-free car I have ever had. GM uses cheap plastic for glove box door latches while I have learned to my cost that; BMW uses it for engine parts. My car is used primarily for long-distance trips and I would expect that once the C8's first year teething issues are worked out (including the stitching!) it will be an excellent car for travelling.

Nice review....great B-Roll footage....touched on things in a concise manner....I did cringe though when you shut the rear lid without setting the roof into the holding slots properly...hopefully no paint damage on the leading edge??

Another amazing review Tom! Often don't get some of these US-specific models down here in Australia but I love watching them all the same.

My brother in law is a supervisor at one of the GM plant in Indiana, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get one for $60,000. Even the supervisors couldn't get them. You have a better chance of winning the lotto than getting a 2020-21 Corvette C8 for $60,000.

Good stuff here - both in the car and in the review. I'm a 911 driver. The new 'Vette leaves me cold. Three reasons. First, as you note in your review, it is big. I test drove one once. Huge car. Dealer bragged it could hold two sets of golf clubs. I don't play golf and I buy a car to drive it. Second, the car does not look good. I would not feel good driving it. Third, no manual transmission. Kudos to Chevy and GM for creating a car like this at this price but I'll stay with my Carrera S cab and row my own. Keep up the great work, Tom.

Without a doubt, these are the best quality auto review/previews out there. They are informative, and beautifully videographed. I agree about the rear styling. I also think there are way too many cut lines (ie: @ 12:07). Not that I can afford one, but I would want the targa top. It would eliminate a few of those cut lines, and it would make the interior's roof look better, and provide a lesser chance of water leaks. (Hello GM. I speak from personal experience). Let me guess, a targa top delete is not available? Another ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review! Thanks Tom!

This is a very thoughtful, thorough,. and honest review of the car. I have had mine since April and I pretty much agree with everything he says. Yes the stitching could be more even, although I have no problem with the volume knob, it's an awkward reach around the steering wheel. The car is much more striking and visually appealing in person than it is in any video, it looks like an Italian supercar and the ride is incredibly composed and smooth, it rides like a high-powered Cadillac. Those of you who are patiently waiting for your C8 won't be disappointed, there's a reason it's getting all these rave reviews.

Too bad you couldn't have done an extended POV drive video with the C8 for those of us who have ordered one, but must wait a year for delivery. We need to live vicariously through you. Thanks!

Tom Voelk's reviews always remind me of those professional, well-produced car review shows in the 90s, long before Top Gear and Fifth Gear. The writing is straightforward, editing is beautiful, humor is tasteful. Facts are laid out with a balanced opinion. If other car reviewers envy the audience Driven attracts, then maybe they should start learning from the channel, and adapt the style and quality of their content to match the audience they want.

My understanding is that the brake - by - wire tech from the C8 came over to the Cadillac CT5, so the innovations of this car are already spreading around the GM lineup.

I have a 2006 C6 with a Manual trans, and won't get rid of it for anything....I've been to 7 track days across the country and couldn't be happier....TAKE YOUR CAR TO THE TRACK PEOPLE! It's not that expensive and it's the best fun you can have with your clothes on.

It's not unreal, you just order one with the options you want and it'll be the price it's supposed to be. There are no dealer markups if you go to a high volume corvette dealer. Do your research.
