To anyone wondering about the how-to, we learned it in University: They filmed the whole set without her, as if she were there, and then filmed her on set from several angles to catch shadows and such. In post they rebuilt the set from footage, replaced her bodyparts with the CG-animation, and fed the needed bits from the rebuilt set into the animation. As for the mirror, there just isn't one. They filmed her from the other side for it, and they had footage of her looking at a mirror in that room to get the lighting and posture right.

Thank you for your explanation. This was so enchanting. Everything experienced by my eyes, ears and heart while watching this was so right where it needed to be. Bravo to the entire team from the CG team, to the Chemical Brothers and of course the Dancer (who I admittedly thought was Zendaya for a second there)! ❤❤❤

@Teddy Holiday His possible lack of knowledge of the lyrics is much less concerning than your willingness to so strongly insult a person complimenting the song. The music is as important as the meaning of the lyrics, and evidently 186 times as many people agree with his interpretation of the music as do those who agree with you.

One of the best things I’ve noticed about this is that you want her to move so much faster. But the fact that she calculated time and movement is both grace and recognition. It’s like watching depression take effect in a dance. Beautiful video. I come back to it regularly.

A bit off topic, but not by much. I love those continuous camera shots, the cuts are subtle, but rare. ===> My point is about this new movie, "1917", it has some of the longest uncut shots I've ever seen. It's all impressive. Thx to all involved! (FYI www.imdb.com/video/vi3474308889?playlistId=tt8579674 )

This is one of those songs that the video just compliments in and around itself.. The song is about loss and the feeling of someone loved being lost. The way I see the dance is that she's trying to grasp what's being lost, pull it back into herself and in doing so it's changing her and laying her "wide open". Nearer to the end of the song where she's mostly changed, you see the dancer start hugging herself as if she's swallowed in depression. She looks in the mirror and see's her past self, at which point her dancing picks up, becomes more erratic and frantic. Then at the end after hugging herself she gives up, and stands there holding herself lightly because she's now completely empty.. Nearly moved me to tears.

So when she's looking at the camera (in the beginning) she is really looking at herself. If you notice when she's looking at herself (the second time) she has the same facial expression as the first time she looked at the camera/us. So she's doing interpretative dance that could be a metaphor for life and how we use our heart and emotions through life and our body slips away from us until we are an empty shell. In the end, she has her hand on her pulse and we see a shape of a cross behind her as the (music stops/life ends) and we hear the sound of a train passing and sirens representing that life still moves forward. We are all passengers on this train of life and what we do with our time is more beautiful than we realize. I think the lyrics are as specific to the singer just as how the interpretative dance is specific for the dancer, Becks (music/life) is "Getting away from him" meaning (us) as his audience we are slipping away from him as he gets older but he is Wide Open.

looks pretty good to me, fits the jerky mood of the song and puts some form of meaning to the sentiments, plus the precision it must have taken for the numerous takes to add in and over lay all the special effects must have been quite demanding to say the least...and, to top it all, Sonoya Mizuno is stunningly beautiful

My best friend (my dad) and I enjoyed running a beautiful 5 mile route together several times every week. He took good care of himself and kept busy working on habitat restoration projects but hadn't been feeling well for two months; he thought it was his inguinal hernia. He went to a doctor in March. The doctor scheduled him for hernia surgery 4 weeks out but refused to order blood labs we requested to rule out other causes. I saw this video, for the first time, the day before joining my dad for an appointment with a different doctor one week later. My biggest forecasted pain and fear in life was losing my dad. Seeing this video felt like my biggest fear; what if it was cancer? I was with my dad for the next nine weeks. A blink of the eye, this 5:31 minute video story, nine weeks, it feels the same. I cannot watch this without weeping.

You can't just leave a comment on a video like this. I have to craft an appropriate response that articulates the emotions that are conveyed by the imagery and sound. That deep soulful look she gives the camera at the beginning of the video describes what she knows is coming, and that is her entire body becoming synthetic as she dances. It speaks to all of us as we become more and more attached to our phones and technology that we are losing ourselves, it's getting away from us. She knows the end result at the beginning of the video which is why she gives that sad stare, and sadly it's what's happening to all of us, Which is why this is such a touching video.

I take this music video to imply the cycle of psychic death and rebirth. This person was painted into a corner, maybe due to a rejecting or traumatic experience with an ex-lover, and only over time can she rediscover her inherent self-worth and value, physical and otherwise. Through the breathtaking choreography, she is literally coming to grips with her own body and identity.

I cannot express how much I love not only this song but the video itself. OK, I'm also what might be considered an old timer, but an old time Chemical Brothers fan, who grew up with the Brothers' songs way back in the 90s. To me, the level they've reach right now feels like a culmination of their talent, a maturity in sound, voice and imagery. Along the way, multiple talents have lend their helping hands, and that's why most of their tunes have incredible accompanying videos (think Elektrobank, Setting Sun, Hey Boy, Hey Girl, Star Guitar). I'm just happy to have grown listening to their music, to be part of the whole 80's & 90's rave scene and hopefully I'll be able to share at least a part of this passion to other, younger folks :)

5 years ago, I was cleaning my room, it was holidays and I was at home, 10th grade. This song touched my soul and it was the most beautiful one for me. Fast forward, I'm in 2nd year UNI studying in one of the most prestigious colleges of my country. It's lockdown, I'm home alone, my parents are now seperated, and there's this certain void created in me, and this song is even more relatable as my life is falling down!

I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. Music has always touched my soul as well. We are all facing difficulties. Please don't think your life is falling, being so young, it's only starting. But you need to understand from now on you can make your life whatever you want it to be, it is always a matter of attitude, even when things that you don't have control over and have nothing to do with you happen. Can I recommend you write how you feel, however it comes out, sometimes it puts in order my thoughts when I do it, takes some negativity out of my head and gives me some perspective. It can be only for you and you won't hurt paper that's just what it is. Also I came to the realisation that I need to keep reinventing myself over and over in order to survive and not dwell on the past. Focus on your blessings. Life IS beautiful and the future is exciting! always!! Any way I hope you feel better dear. In years from now you will thank the strong UNI student that was able to push through what you're dealing with right now. Have a great day! 💐

I hope you are ok, life can be hard at times and as we grow older we understand this more and more. This song came along when my wife of 30 odd years moved out and left me with a house and family to run including 2 dogs. Never under estimate the power of music, to console or uplift. All the best.

Don't know how I've only just come across this tune! It's fucking beautiful. Even my 4 year olds favourite video and he's had all the neighbours kids round to watch it. They were all mesmerised 💗

Someone on FB posted this and I almost ignored it. It began playing before I moved on and I became fascinated. Great job all around. It's one of those songs/ video's that an old 60's rocker/fusion enthusiast usually don't come across until a younger person gets me involved. Always great to see talent still alive.

This song stays with me all day after hearing it, which is everyday just about. Wish I had known of it before now but blessed to have heard it finally. Killer colab for both artists & lucky for us all they created this together. Thank you Beck & Chem.Bros
