I live in Switzerland and I work with a chechnyan young man. I can only say he is incredibly respectful and humble, always ready to help, and i have never heard him talking bad about anyone or anything. He is the best in my team. I have a massive respect for chechnyas. I don't share their costume and traditions, but I do certainly respect them.

The reason that the bride's relatives aren't at the wedding actually stems from the old tradition where the groom's family would come pick up the bride at her home and bring her to their home. From that day on she 'belongs' to the family of her husband. And the bride's family would be sad that she left, which is why they weren't in a celebratory mood, since they 'lost' a daughter. So they would stay home and cry. Whereas the groom's family would be very happy because they just got their 'new daughter'. So they would throw a party and celebrate.

The only connection I knew was Chechnian war, ridiculously! While the practices seem sharply at odds with the freedoms I am familiar; the underlying principles in this society are a curious mix that would normally be seen in a closed community, like the Amish, Mormons, or even some extreme fundamentalist Jewish sectors. There feels little if any covetousness, of more liberal societies. In Chechnia, people live alongside other communities, it would appear, whilst sheltering their own. There is a deep honesty revealed here, though it goes so far, as to raise concerns about what exactly happens, when marital difficulties, do arise? Nonetheless, beautiful!

They have the best furniture and clothes and traditions and food. They are the nicest people and that worries me because here in America ppl take advantage of generous people. The women cannot speak up as they would be ostracized or killed if they speak against their state imposed religion. This is NOT tradition it is modern slavery in a different form. So strange as Islam was once a great religion 800-1200 a.d. and dominated science as Christian Europe burned non-believers at the stake. In 1250 a.d. when Islam started killing scientists and burning books (like Christianity did earlier) and turned inward to their religion they have been on a downward path for over 700 years. Name one thing Islam has given the world in the last 700 years and i will sit here and listen...i feel so sorry for the women and sure the men are very happy.

Almost all people of the world are decent and respectable. It's just a small bunch of people at the top who use these very decent people to fight against each other and give them bad name. I once visited a country which is an archenemy for us. I was afraid of their army/police or violent reaction from public, but was taken aback by common people's hospitality. Learned that we all are pitched against each other for stupid political reasons (sometimes religious reasons in case of few islamic nations).

It is not surprising that the Chechens don't feel Russian, because they are part of Russia only due to history, they have nothing to do with Russia by culture, traditions, and even religion. I'm interested in the Caucasus in general, I like traditional Chechen music and dances, I really thank you for this travel to Chechnya, very interesting and inspirational.

@@williamtarabalka4920 you may not go to jail but certainly you will be socially outcasted Society has its ways of teaching its norms to the uninitiated or the recalcitrant. But yes many of the laws, norms, customs that Muslims follow around the world are similar as they arise from the following of the Quran and the Sunnah of the prophet Muhammad. They are mainly for social cohesion and keeping the members of the society in a frame of safety and security. So you will find youngsters respectful of elders and this is inculcated by behaviour such as standing up in the presence of elders and addressing elders even the siblings by respectful terms rather than call them by their names. Such behaviour sets rules foe family bonding. In return elders take on responsibility for the youngsters and do not think it as a burden. It is a beautiful system and one of the reasons you do not find homeless people or the need for assisted care because families take care of them. Some people may argue that it restricts liberty and all that but then one has to choose the values and Muslims have chosen this way for themselves. This is only a small example of the beautiful interdependent web of societies not only Muslims but Hindus, Christian and Buddhists too in most of Asia.
