Solo in Russia’s most conservative republic - Ingushetia

Kidnapping of girls, women without rights, and merciless men. This is what they say about the Republic of Ingushetia in the North Caucasus region of Russia. This is a very closed society, but I’ll try to get to know local people and learn about their culture and life.

Perhaps I will shock you. This Assinsky gorge in the mountains, where there are ancient cities with towers, is called “Askart” in Ingush, and the Assa mountain river flows there. Askart literally means “Assy’s Compound”, This river means a lot to the Ingush. And also “Valg1ala,” where the letter “g1,” is a guttural sound that literally means “city/haven of the dead,” I don’t know English very well, but I hope I was able to convey the meaning

Conclusion: This verse of the Bible proves that Kabir is Complete God. The one who worships God Kabir by taking initiation from the complete saint sent by him gets complete salvation. After attaining salvation that souls rest in peace in the eternal abode Satlok forever. The throne of God is in Satlok( ETERNAL PLACE) 😊😊 God Kabir met Jesus and took his soul to Satlok. My family is from the appalachian mountains in the US. Often described as the poorest area in the country and backwards for keeping old traditions. I've heard many appalachians say they'd rather be poor at home in the mountains, than have some money somewhere else. We also always make sure the oldest has the best seat in the house and if there's only os many seats, whoever is the oldest gets them. The rest of us will stand or sit on the floor. Appalachia was pretty isolated until the 90s also when the internet came around and opened up the outside world to them. I brought my sister in law down to appalachia and she was so surprised by how nice strangers were and how accommodating, because people have a feeling they should stay out of appalachia because they might get shot for being an outsider. Lots of similarities here.

Well, these deportations have completely different reasons. If the genocide of American Indians is something obvious in many ways. Then in the USSR, Stalin (Dzhugashvilli) and his right punitive hand Beria, Georgians, came from the Caucasus and they personally made decisions about which peoples were “not reliable” and whose elites could side with Hitler when Hitler decided to go to the Caucasus to the oil fields, which were considered in Germany key and priority. I’m not justifying Stalin, it’s just that this had nothing to do with the Russians at that time. Decisions were made personally by Stalin and Beria, immigrants from the Caucasus, born in the Caucasus, who were well aware of the customs and morals of the peoples of the Caucasus.

However, the act of being shocked can’t be classified as an opinion but rather a human feeling that is unsolicited and unexpected. I think, in my quest to better understand the world and life in general, it is necessary to explore and try to understand how people operate within their own culture and environment. Only then will I become better educated and less ignorant. These vlogs lend themselves to the exploration. Thanks Eli!

Yes, though not entirely honest about Chechen violence only being in response to an act of offense or attack against them first in the present tense. As in other Muslim cultures, there is also a willingness to see this in a historical context--i.e., if such-and-such people _ever_ offended or attacked my people, then it is our right to retaliate or exact revenge, etc., when and where we choose. It was interesting to listen to Americans be completely mystified when Saddam Hussein would talk about events of a thousand years ago as if they were still relevant for being responded to in the present.

Calling the cops on strangers in rural areas is common all over. I was towing a trailer with a conversion van in New Mexico and pulled off the highway into a small settlement to rest the engine for awhile because it wasn’t used to the altitude under load and was struggling a bit. County sheriff showed up maybe five minutes later. When he pulled in I greeted him with, “I see the phones work around here.” That let him know I knew what was up. Explained I was letting the engine cool completely before moving on because it was struggling a bit and hadn’t known how far it was to the next rest area so I judged it was safer to pull into town in a church parking lot than risk needing to pull off on the side of the road. He asked if I needed a tow or a mechanic, told me what exits the next two rest areas were at and gave me his card so I could call if I had trouble getting the van started. It helps that I’m white and that my husband was dressed like a cowboy.

Jeeze dude! I swear, some people are just paranoid. My American Cultural Landscapes professor said some asshole called the cops on his students before for taking pictures of his house. The class was about architectural styles, and it's not illegal to take pictures of a public street front. And another time, someone from the marina in my neighborhood called the rangers on someone for launching a boat there. It's sad that people feel they need to call the cops for everything, instead of just talking to the person. I swear, Americans are some of the most paranoid people on the planet. They always assume someone is bad.

Indeed. I remember when I was waiting in the drizzling rain for the last train home, on the outskirts of a small village in my native Hungary. It was pitch black, save for some lights at the train stop, no one was around, as it was in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, yet someone has still managed to call the cops on me. Guess someone felt him or herself threatened by my bulky stature and my attire (black leather jacket, black pants, military boots). There was a routine ID check, the cops patted me down, checked the contents of my pockets, ran a quick search to check if there was a warrant issued against me, and finally, after 20 minutes of hassle, they let me go. I still remember, one of them has "rested" his hand on his holster, even after they've found out that I was cooperative and practically harmless. I thought to myself: "Shall I put my hands up, just for the sake of safety, or wait until he pulls his pistol out of the holster?"

I'm honestly surprised that given the amount of filming that you do as a traveller (and therefore an outsider), this is the first time you have been detained. I'm from the UK and I have seen this a few times, including a group of 3 Pakistanis arrested on suspicion of terrorism and detained for over a day, just because they were taking a lot of photos of a court building (the actual law allows them to be detained for up to 72 hours with optional extensions at court). The UK is probably considered liberal by many too. It happens, 40 minutes is nothing.

Ya, but police interactions for this was more common back in the day (at least in the US) when there wasn't case law regarding. Outright arrests are more rare, but intimidation is common enough. I don't know how that plays in Russia however, where protections for a defendant may not be as robust.

I am too honestly, considering how restrictive Russia is, and the amount of times she's been yelled at for filming inside a store or restaurant. She's really ballsy doing this without a local fixer. I wouldn't try that as a foreigner, and if I did, I wouldn't be obvious about it.

@@briantravelman I live in Canada, and the same attitude towards me wouldn't surprise me if I was constantly filming in stores and on the streets. If I record something, especially for the purpose of publication (as she does for KZread), I have to ask a hundred verbal and sometimes written permissions from the people who appear in my recordings.

It is so crazy how many similarities this mountain part of Russia has with mountain parts of my country - Serbia. Traditional values, man - woman relations, honor and pride dominated culture... I guess mountains have something to do with this. Great video, support from Serbia.

Oddly, I am from the other side of the world, and I didnt expect many countries to be more similar to Russia than Serbia. When I go outside there is the warm blast of sun, swaying tropical trees, and angry birds. Russia may as well be another planet. In Russia you can die just by being outside without protection.

Luckily for you, bride kidnapping is now against the law.... 😜 I like this format a lot. Last 2 video's were among my favorites. This proverb is true. My family was Moroccan, but they left for France and I was born there. I have never been in the land of my parents, but I will, cause I feel lost and that I dont really belong here. Being born in France, adopted by french people, and lived most of my life in this country doesnt make me a French, cause of my genetic, I ll always be a stranger. Neither I am a real Moroccan, cause of my history. So it is beautiful and strong for me to see how Inguchs are loyal to their roots and their native land. Proud People. For sure Eli is a great reporter!

@@myaopanobviously you don't have deep roots in a culture. It is not child's play. As we heard: ingush people take it very seriously (their traditions. It's what gives then identity, not some kind of hybrid "human being on earth") I salute and admire these people that keep their roots alive no matter how the powers try to displace them. Palestinians is one example.
