I bought my property in Liverpool in 2017. 2 bed maisonette for £64,000. Granted the value has gone up by somewhat but it’s been worth it. I renewed my mortgage last year on a ten year deal and my mortgage repayments are £210 a month so I’m pretty happy!!

Interesting little video, however, as someone who has a little previous experience of property investment, I would add a word of caution for anyone who isn't familiar with buying in these cheaper areas. You do have to be very realistic about what you are getting into. Postcodes are almost always cheap for a good reason, sometimes because jobs are in short supply, or there has been some change to the area. Also the houses are often in need of TLC, having been run down due to lack of money. So don't be expecting a Buckingham Palace. That said if you choose well they can still be very worthwhile projects, either to do up and rent out, or indeed to live in. Just bear in mind that you WILL usually need to be prepared to put in a bit of hard graft to reach the full potential.

I agree, however it is always good to see if any of these cheap areas have been considered for Regeneration, who would have though5 Stratford and Hackney which were cheap properties 30 years ago in London would be what they are today..overpriced….people I know their house prices Quadrupled!!!

In between three of the places you mentioned, there's Hartlepool. We bought a three storey terrace house (5 bed, 2.5 bath, 3 reception and 100ft+ garden) for £100k. There are PLENTY of houses available for less than £50k in the area - obviously smaller than ours. If you WFH, it's absolutely great to live here.

If your retired the north east is a great place to be countryside is fantastic and beaches to match, you could sell your expensive southern house say for 400k. Then buy a good one up north for around 100k, all services are the same as down south and the people are far more friendly. Just think no inheritance tax to worry about as you swan around the world on a fantastic cruise, a new car, campervan hoilidays.

For all the Americans looking to buy cheap rentals in the UK, 'Keighley' at number 9 is not pronounced key-ley as per the video. The 'keigh' part is pronounced 'keith' as per the man's name, so its actually pronounced 'keithley'. Also, if you want cheap and good enough to live in and raise your kids, don't buy in the cities noted - buy in the sticks just outside them. This is particularly true of both Keighley and Bradford, as you are then in Gods own Country (and well away from the idiots keeping the prices down!) but near enough to the big financial/IT employers in Leeds, Manchester (and surprisingly - Halifax) to still have a well paying career.

This could turn into an affordability crisis, leading to tens of thousands of repossessions. You may have to revise your prices down sooner than you think………

So we are 15 minutes to get into Durham 30 minutes from Newcastle 30 minutes to Sunderland or 30 minutes to Middlesboro so we are quite close to all the major towns in the region and .in a nice country area with lots of nice valleys forests and rivers. And a rich history on our doorstep. we don't have any problem with any neighbours .costs are reasonable around here you can find a nice house to rent from £400 per Month. Or buy a property from £70k or something really nice about £100k so you can have good quality of life. for a reasonable price plenty of jobs around so you will not be out of work for more than 10 minutes . So all in all a lovely part of the counrty .check it out .
