My proudest "overclocking" moment was back when I knew basically nothing about computers and "upgraded" my Radeon 9600 Pro to an nVidia 6500 or something. Was so long ago that I long forgot, and I don't even have that computer anymore. I was actually able to unlock GPU LANES in this card. It shipped with two of six lanes enabled. After finding the special utility, I was able to get two more lanes enabled. The last two lanes were actually defective, with one of them causing severe artifacting, and the other causing a point light to flash on screen before crashing the entire PC.

The better, (If I should call it that) of the gt 710 graphics cards. While some might say that it's a bad card, other things that are good about are the fact that it does what the onboard graphics card doesn't have to. For older model computers it actually increases and sometimes caps fps on games with direct x11 or direct x period.

Fun fact: I own a Zotac 710 graphics card, and it does in fact have a legitimate use. It is EXTREMELY cheap, and it comes in a version that fits into a PCIe x1 slot. If you build your own router (pfsense or linux or whatever) out of cheap hardware, you will soon find the urge to stick as many possible 1000 Mb/s NIC cards into the case as possible. This usually means using a board that has many PCIe slots, but also no onboard video. Sacrificing a x8 or x16 slot for a graphics card during initial setup basically undoes the advantages you got by having a board with so many slots (you will lose about 4 gigabit ethernet ports), so a cheap card only taking up a x1 slot is actually IDEAL in this particular use case.

So now with it, Im able to play at 80-55 fps in Ultra low quality on and Im pretty happy with it, I also use it for graphics design and it works well tbh. Notice that this is a PCIe x8 card. This means it can work in some odd places where you don't have the full x16 physical interface available, for example on a motherboard where there is already a more powerful nVidia card in there and you need a few more displays than that card supports.

Btw, there is even a PCI-E X1 slot version of this card- arguably the worst version. I don't understand how there are still so many new examples of these old cards. You can still find new HD 5450s for example, a card that came out almost TEN years ago.

When you consider the added expense of a fan and the high risk of burning out the GPU, it makes no sense to not just simply buy a graphics card that runs at that level of performance out of the box.

It proves that manufactures put out GPU's that are basically throttled down so they can bring out a "new GPU" in a year that beats the old one..BUT...The "old one" can be over clocked to actually do what the new GPU can do performance wise. Intel has been doing this with processors for 30 years!

As the proud owner of an Utterly Leet Computing Behemoth (G3260@3.3GHz, 8gigs RAM (should have been 4gigs but I occasionally need to run a VM) and onboard Intel HD graphics featuring the GPU Colossus that is the Haswell GT1), running the very latest hardware-torturing games (mostly FSX and Duke Nukem 3D) I feel I must leap to the defence of the GT710 with the Shield Of Truthiness and The Sword Of Low-End-ability. And a couple of highly scientific benchmarks. It so happens that a 2GB GT710 came into my hands a few days ago, and here are the results garnered from my sophisticated test suite and protocols:- FSX (Fair weather, all graphics settings maxed, depart KLAX, 5 miles out & return). Intel HD - 12-17 fps with a target of 24, GT710 - 50-60 fps with a target of 60. Duke Nukem 3D (eDuke32, Hi-res Pack, Polymer, gibs set to 100). Intel HD - In flames /with a lot going on - 1-4 fps. Objects disappear during gib showers. GT710 - In flames/ with a lot going on - many more fps. Possibly even low teens. Fewer objects disappear during gib showers. I haven't tried overclocking it yet, I'm just using the nVidia Control Panel quick settings thing at max performance. Exciting times lie ahead! Oh, and it does 4K. I haven't tested that, I won't be upgrading to it for a few years yet... On a slightly more serious note, there are an awful lot of pc's still being sold to Joe Public with onboard graphics that are peed all over even by an elderly codger like the GT710. Considering the difference it makes to those systems compared to its price the 710 will have a market for a while yet. I'm keeping mine.

It's hard even to define it a "graphics card", since integrated graphics from a cpu is quite more performing. The cap for OC here is the limited power delivery offered by the PCI-e slot, as you said in the video.

I think that's an issue with the GT 710. They pack it like a gaming card and people try to game on it. The real use of a GT 710 is when you have an elderly relative with an old Core 2 Quad with on board graphics so bad, it can't play KZread videos at higher than 480p(that's not a joke, this is from personal experience from my 70 year old dad's computer), but otherwise, runs perfectly fine for what they do. Drop in a GT 710, which has hardware video decoding up to 1080p and it's stopped the old coot going out and spending £400 on a new computer he doesn't need.

Hey, I don't mind the GT 710. I got 100 fps on Minecraft with it, on an HP Elite 8000 sff PC, lol. I did get the 2GB GDDR5 version, at $50 USD. It was not bad for its price, and hey, it ran Fortnite at 30 fps on all low settings and low resolution, but at least it ran, and it was "somewhat" usable (I don't use it anymore, I have a much better gaming laptop now, but I still have that PC)

It used to be you'd voltage mod a video card by putting a multi turn variable resistor between where the card is reading the voltage and where it's coming from. By increasing slowly the resistance in between the voltage feedback circuit thinks it's lower than it actually is and will add more voltage. You need a volt meter connected to know how much you're increasing it though.

People buy these things to be able to connect additional displays, there is no gaming in them whatsoever, that is also why they sell well. Point missed. They are geared at showing image on numerous displays after you run out of connectors in the motherboard, period. So, yes the 1 gig variant will be cheaper to make and the target market is happy, because it is even chaper.

You don’t get it. The GT710 isn’t built for gaming at all so the frame buffer doesn’t matter. These are mainly used for port expansion in business PC’s. If you compare a Toyota Prius against a Lamborghini, the Toyota is a terrible car for racing but it’s built for solid economy.
