THE CHATEAU'S WINTER SALON!!!

The Sunday Vlog is back, now that Advent is over 🎉
But, as the Christmas decorations are still up at the chateau, I thought I'd give you a peek into our Winter Salon, where we celebrated Christmas this year. In this video, you'll see how it's transformed over the years, and I'll share my future plans for it 💚
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!!!
Escape to the chateau with ’The Chateau Diaries’ 🏰
In 'Sundays at the Chateau', chatelaine Stephanie answers all your questions about life in the 16th century Chateau de Lalande, in the heart of rural France ❤️

Dear Stephanie, I’m watching your video and I have an idea on what to do with your billiard table. I have a billiard table and it has a solid top that I can put on it. This is super handy for meetings around the table and I use it all the time for sewing. It’s wonderful to have a large surface to sort out all the bits whilst sewing. I hope this gives you an idea what to do with your table. I adore your vlog ❤️ Please keep doing them 🙏 Sending you lots of ❤️

I agree that this is a room that one could spend hours in. I love, love, love those rich green walls that make the room so snug and your marvelous mix of furniture and decorative items that reflect a personal history. And how lovely to incorporate your fathers paintings and drawings that make the space even more special. Perhaps you could consider his Medieval painting on fabric or dinnerware which would look stunning in your beautiful Chateau.

I somehow missed this vlog. It’s just like I’m sat opposite you and you’re explaining all about the chateau, it’s history, the renovation works you had to do. Your Father was such a talented man and I particularly like the brown and sepia architectural painting with the flower stall, lady and man sat on the bench and both glancing at the women with the pram for different reasons, how often do we still notice this?! Men 🙄😄 I love everything about this room and you definitely made the right decision to make it a cozy gathering place. I wish I could step through the screen, have a lovely cup of tea with you. I had 3 exquisite teas given to me for Christmas! I’m watching this on 4th January 2024. I enjoy seeing how much has changed when I happen upon an older vlog. I thoroughly enjoy all things LaLande but this was simply charming, thank you Stephanie ☕️🫖☕️🍰🍰🎉🥰🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️

❤️❤️❤️ Daddy wasn’t a professional artist because he refused to sell his paintings! He was asked to join Disney as an animator, but decided against it because he wanted to be free to paint whatever he wanted. He painted with great discipline in every spare moment he had, it was his purpose and passion.

Beautiful room! I am fascinated by your father... he sounds like an extraordinary man. Was he a career artist or a hobbyist? He was certainly prolific. I am so curious to know how your parents found one another - I am sure it is an interesting story - and how they ended up running a care home for the elderly. Your life, from a young age and even still, seems like it could have popped out from the pages of a novel. Any thought of writing a memoir at some point? Lots of questions (apologies) but this video sparked my curiosity :) Thank you for sharing your journey with us.

Maybe for the billiard table you can glass top it and use it as a some sort of serving or display table? It would look cute with the balls and cues displayed under the glass. Especially if you have a games room or some sort of events room... And -if you're not doing it already - I wondered if you could use one of the print on demand services to create products like wrapping paper, cards, phone cases, tins, cushions etc. from your fathers paintings and images of the château. Like you and quests have done on thank you cards and cushions, but specifically to bring in money for repairs. I think some who follow your channel would buy them to help you, but also they would be happy to have a little piece of Lalande and your family in exchange. Each product could have its own project fund and have a little blurb on it saying what proceeds from sales are funding. (And outsourcing making & fulfilment would be easier to manage than making them yourself.) Maybe? xx :)

Hello Stephanie. I love that you shop at second hand shops. Regarding the couch with the damaged seat cushions. Could you do something similar as the curtains that you created in one of the guest bedrooms? I.e.. Save some of the fabric to use as edging and use a solid color as the main part of the cushions? Then, you could still keep the fabric intact on the back of the couch. Based on your plans for the room, you will be attending a lot more auctions and second hand shops. Lucky us!

I own a 1905 Victorian home in Cape Town and can empathize with your continuing decoration and renovations as money allows. Please don't take this as an insult, but as a Viewer and fellow decorator, I must say that the only space in your home that disappoints is your entrance hall/summer dining room. When are you going to address that room, as it is your main entryway and has no wow factor at all! Hope you don't mind my blunt honestly. Warm regards and I specially watch the ads so you can get more money. Can't afford to be a patron. Fond regards Viv Turner

The winter salon is a beautiful space and your logic to convert it from a billiards room makes perfect sense. The colour green works well especially with wooden furniture and the floor tiles. Have you ever entertained the thought of publishing a book documenting the transformation of the chateau. Some KZread channels also have merchandise for sale. Perhaps the proceeds could go back into Lalande for the bookcases, the perfect carpet and the double glazed windows that you have in mind. Just a thought, Stephanie. Yet again, another lovely video. Thank you. Darryl

Make the stables a home for the billiards table , it would look good in there with the dark wood paneling.

I am watching on 04/23/2020, and I am so happy to know that your income from Patreon contributions has exceeded $4000 per month, thus far. So you can begin to get to some of the many restoration projects there! I am so happy about this! Most of the Patreon income is from those who pledge $5 per month, if I am not mistaken. You touch the hearts of thousands of people, Stephanie! You deserve all the support! Because of the lockdown, I am currently without income, or I would be one of those donating. I look forward to joining the ranks of those who donate, when I am able. You are such an inspiration, and I’m one of the thousands who adore you.

Another lovely video Stephanie. Thank you. Can I ask, does your house have a main staircase as Dick and Angel's chateau or some of the others that we've seen on ETTC DIY? I just wondered because I haven't seen any decorating of a stair case.

It does, there’s a stone staircase, but it’s not freestanding, it’s in a stairwell, so it’s not as dramatic as some!

In regards to ideas with your fathers medieval painting you can have a copy of it onto fabric . Then you can make throw pillows or a valance made.

I love your father's medieval painting and the pen and ink ones in the Winter Salon too (as well as some of his other paintings). The wrapping paper you used for Christmas was beautiful (and could be used year-round), so what about doing more of that and/or having sets of cards or prints to sell? I'd love to see a section on the chateau's website where we could pick up some gift-type items and a section with some of your favorite or recommended items, recipes, hotels and more. Thanks to comments from you or others on your vlogs, I've tried the F&M Smoky Earl Grey (delicious!), bought one of the Cire Trudon candles (a small La Marquise--wonderful smelling!), looked at Peter Reed sheets, experimented with Aperol spritz recipes, etc. Keep up the great work-- we want you to have a lovely library and what you need for all the other plans at the chateau!
