That and it's also a great moment for Zuko. His arc isn't about redemption; he's the only one in the family who had any honor, to begin with. Seeing Azula and Ozai (and arguably Zhao even tho he's not family) constantly do dishonorable things helped Zuko's character development.

I mean I wouldn't consider it any more villainous than any other thing she did or was willing to do. He was considered a traitor not only to the crown but to the nation, attacking him or anybody else in that group would be the same thing. The reason she did Target him was because he was distracted by the fact that Toph was with the Avatar. And of course she always lies, she's a tactician , she's not your typical princess that sits around learning the ways of femininity and spends time signing documents and making speeches. Their culture and nation respects and idealizes power, strength and being calculating which you may notice she thrives in.

Actually striking while cornered by 5 people, even if she took advantages of his moment of inatention, I'd hardly call that "vilainous" or "traitorous". He should've stayed alert, it's great tactical skill on her part to get away in this situation and anyone honorable should act like this as well. Azula does plenty of slimy things accross the serie, I don't think there is a need to add more to the list with this one.

The show dropped hints of this too in earlier episodes (eg. when Zuko chose to rescue Iroh from the earthbender kidnappers instead of trying to capture the Avatar when he saw oppa flying above him. And also when Zuko helped Iroh get medical treatment when he ate the poisonous White Jade bush. And also when Zuko got revenge on the dual swords guy after he made Iroh dance for money. And also when Zuko got really happy when he thought Iroh "changed his mind" about returning home with Azula.) :3 Zuko has a bunch of moments when he snaps and says really hurtful things to his uncle. But he's a conflicted guy and deep inside he really does love his uncle

Azula was big brain in that final scene. She noticed iroh was distracted: he noticed that the stranger he had tea with was friends with the avatar. Azula quickly exploited this and made her escape.

I love the scene where Azula’s group is steamrolling along the field and Zuko is following behind at a fraction of the pace. It’s a perfect metaphor for how much further ahead Azula is but Zuko keeps pushing on, no matter how fast he’s going he just keeps moving.

A reactor that got the whole Toph feeling him with her feet thing when Iroh got hit is so cool! It's lost on most people. Also, FIREBENDING BELLY BUMP!!! Iroh was really a true master of all bending forms....

"Both?! I'M COMPLETELY CALM!!" Oh Katara xD Aang coming to Appa's defense really warmed my heart even though it was sort of bad he was yelling at Toph like that. Shows how much Appa means to him that he'd insert himself into the argument even though he's been trying to stay out of it for the most part. The Toph/Iroh scene was also fantastic! More Iroh wisdom and it showed that two people on opposing sides can be friends. Gotta hand it to Azula though for taking advantage of Iroh when he let his guard down. I'm sure normally that would never happen on Iroh's end, but I suppose it just goes to show how Azula was really paying attention to every little thing despite being cornered. Again, such a fantastic villain! Appa is the MVP!

That’s a cool idea but I think it’s crucial that Lu Ten dies during and because of the battle that Iroh was leading. It’s him having to face his responsibility in the death of his son that causes him to shift so drastically as a person. This is kind of undercut if Lu Ten’s death is changed from a casualty of war to an intentional assassination

Azula attacked iroh because he was distracted for a second when he saw Toph was with the Avatar. Azula is an opportunist and does not care about her own uncle. Also... about Toph and the foot zoom, she is surprised as she recognized him as the stranger she met in the woods. she was worried about her new friend being hurt.

Azula aimed for Iroh because he was distracted and basically her biggest threat at the moment. He noticed Toph together with the others (and I think he was shocked about that). That’s when he didn’t look and Azula took her chance.

Notice how Iroh holds the teacup out for Toph to grab it, it's because he's testing Toph and seeing if she can really see without her eyes and testing her to see if she's a threat. Iroh is so smart and wise that he's always analyzing people.

This is the second time Appa uses his tail to blow Mai and Ty Lee away from Sokka and Katara. The first was in "Return to Omashu". This is the second time Aang makes himself a mustache out of Appa's fur. The first was in "The King of Omashu". Azula's escape in a swirl of flames is similar to how Jeong Jeong escaped in "The Deserter". This is the first episode that features all six prominent characters. Zuko arrives on the ostrich horse he stole from Song and her family in The Cave of Two Lovers.

Yalls reactions are the best, this is like the 3rd time I've rewatched this reaction vid cause yall are as hyped as i am :D

Avatar Extras states that the fight sequence between Aang, Zuko, and Azula, was meant to resemble a "Mexican Standoff", more commonly used to refer to a three way duel, and was modeled after multiple Westerns. It was also noted that the battle was challenging for the shows creators, due to the fact that they had to coordinate each of their movements, and show all three of them fighting each other at the same time.

Toph and iroh are so great. Toph might be stubborn and sarcastic ,just like iroh is very nice and funny but both are very wise and openminded. Iroh is very spiritual and toph is very much a realist. She is blunt but she is also nice and understanding. I cant wait for u to see more of her and the others. Toph is loved alot cuz of how badass and how unique and blunt she is but ppl tend to picture her as rowdy, and impulsive with an attitude. When really u can see she is very down to earth(😉), easy going, blunt ,wise, stubborn but openminded and a realist. I appreciate her soft moments as much as her badass moments. Cant wait for yall to see more of what I mean. I love how yall appreciate uncle iroh and them all. Sis really is quick in catching things and I love that

I think Azula took out Iroh because he was one of the most strongest fire benders in the world at the time. She also probably knew that would be a distraction for Zuko and would give her a better chance to escape.

I know I'm late but the show never talks about it or show it but after his son died and his brother stole the throne Iroh went on a journey to the spirit world to basically join his son but found enlightenment due to events on the way there and in there. Then he came back chill but his brother still being a hater

Azula escaping unharmed from the barrage of attacks just shows how strong she is especially cause fire bending isn’t really the most defensive bending

Glad I'm not the only one who struggles to rewatch especially stressful episode of shows regardless of quality. Even when I know how it's going to turn out the atmosphere is still tense, it's too much.

The pointing at her feet is toph recognizing iroh and not to sense his heartbeat
