The way it was done though, he really shouldn't have. In the time it took both benders to shoot at him, he was able to get his boomerang out, throw it at one, kick his sword into the air, grab it, and then throw it at the second. Prior to that we even see the fire forming from each firebender.

The choreography of that duel was equally beautiful. Throughout the series, Iroh had taught Zuko the importance of drawing wisdom from all four nations and not just the Fire Nation. That was why Iroh was such a powerful bender; he learned to incorporate different techniques to augment his already powerful firebending, and Zuko did the same. You could see it in the different ways that Azula and Zuko dueled. Azula relied solely on firebending form, whereas Zuko learned how to use air, water, and earth techniques that Azula was not prepared for. Even if Azula weren't losing it mentally, she still would have lost.

True. Sokka’s arc had a lot of ins and outs, but I think a big part of it was learning that he didn’t have to pretend to be someone he’s not to protect the people he loves. In the beginning, he was always trying to be a caricature of his father, putting up a macho, serious front to seem more respectable. Throughout the show, it get proven time and time again that being his normal, fun-loving, goofy self does not mean he’s not also a good leader and competent warrior. That was Master Piandao’s whole lesson to him at the end of the day: be yourself, stay true to your training, and you will become the best version of yourself.

And now her father, the only person who truly validated her status and just crowned as the new Fire Lord, then one-ups her by naming himself Phoenix King and dips out. All she had left was her superiority in natural strength, and she lost it against her "weaker" brother (had to basically cheat to get him to throw the match), and was then bested by a Waterbender she calls "peasant". I love how the music for the final Agni Kai between Zuko and Azula wasn’t epic and triumphant. Because it’s really a tragedy. Two siblings fighting each other. Zuko and Azula could have had a close sibling bond like Sokka and Katara, but Ozai pitted them against each other. They both did what they thought would earn their father’s love. It’s sad and somber, and the music reflects that perfectly.

As the azula sympathizer that I am I gotta say her last scene always gets me, people often overlook the fact that she just as much a victim to the evil cycle of fire nation as zuko was even iroh wasn’t always good his son death put him on the right path just like zuko mom leaving and being banished put him on the right path, unfortunately azula didn’t have something to lead her to the possibility of redemption, she was used and coddled with malicious intent by her father because she was a prodigy, her father used her as a weapon, which why from what she learned from her father she couldn’t form real bonds with anyone. I think the reason it’s hard for people to sympathize with her is because she’s portrayed so confident in herself and what she’s doing which makes her fall off so nice for some but so sad for others, I feel like azula embraced the fact that so many people feared her just like they feared her father and she wore that fact with pride until everything she ever known came crashing down which when her insecurities started to show, they even showed alittle in the beach episode, deep down I feel like azula was jealous of people who had real bonds and connections because she didn’t know how to have one, what make her character even more tragic is the fact that she’s only 14.

Ones of the best parts of the final Agni Kai for me was Zuko's use moves from other bending forms. He counters Azula's first attack with a waterbending move. He later counters with an earthbending stance. He then uses an airbender kick to land a blow on her. He embodied Iroh's lessons, and found wisdom in all four nations. Another testament to Sokka's ability to grow that I have yet to see any reactor catch onto is how protective he became of Toph. In the Serpent's Pass episode, he learned that while Toph is strong and very capable, she is still blind and needs guidance when the scenario isnt in her favor. In all scenarios since then, you can see him making sure to grab her hand or protect her without a moments hesitation.

I can't confirm if it was 100% intentional the way i think it is. But one off my favorite things about that whole "cherry pit" thing is that the servant is voiced by Azula's VA so it's her talking down to herself in a way. Like i said I can't say it was by design as I can't prove it but it is an amazing detail if it was

you know Hello Future Me right? he has a theory that there was no cherry pit. his thought process goes like this: since a few minutes after this scene, Azula is shown hallucinating (her mom), he thinks she was starting to lose it then and hallucinated the maid. and if you look at the faces of the other maids, they seem surprised (yes it could be that they are surprised at Azula berating the maid), but he suggests maybe they were surprised at Azula shouting at nothing.

What you said about trusting each other is a big point that can be easy to miss. I saw a youtube video someone made (sorry I forget who) where he talked allot about Toph's character growth, and one of the points he made was that she went from being incredibly uncomfortable riding Appa and putting a huge emphasis on her own self reliance to running around on air-ships doing whatever Sokka told her without any hesitation. Then there's Sokka's side where he's confident in his ideas and follows through on his responsibility, staying focused when they were separated from Suki and losing both his weapon's so he could hold on to toph. That last part isn't from the youtube video, just my own two cents.

Well, I don't disagree about her being the victim of abuse, but she DID have someone in her life like Iroh; her mother. But the issue is that Azulon and Ozai "enabled" her sadistic traits and it eventually became out of her mother's control. I'm certain that any time their mother tried to discipline Azula, Ozai simply overruled her.

As much as Azula is a villain you love to hate throughout the show, I really appreciate that in the end, she is shown to be a broken child from a very abusive home. What is foreshadowed is the willingness of the universe along with the spirit world to help the Avatar correct and fix the imbalance that the world has and though energy bending might be a deus ex machina, you can definitely attribute this lion turtle wisdom thing to the magical forces influencing the events the follow.

Yes, this was revealed later in the Korra series. But, this was how people became able to connect to the elements. Did they make all that up last minute and then just ran with it more during Korra series? I really don't know. I do doubt that the lion turtles as the overseers and ultimate guardians of balance were always meant to interfere rarely.
