    The packers game was the perfect example of how the chargers with Herbert have played. Herbert literally played a perfect game. He even added in a couple of great runs. All the way down to putting the ball in the hands of his wide open receiver to win the game who of course then dropped it. It’s criminal Herbert lost that game and that’s what the team has been since he got here. Chargers badly needed harbaugh to change things.

    16:37 See this is where Brett's Homerism is starting to kick in. Greg Roman didn't have alot of wide Reciver talent to work with with Baltimore but he doesn't at LA either. The only receiving threat that might be competent is Ladd. But even then Romans passing schemes were terrible. JT Sullivan and Kurt Warner used to get literally frustrated at the schemes he came up with while breaking down Lamar's Tape. Defense may not get its best results until end of October. Minter's scheme isn't anything new (as Brett previously mentioned its a streamlined version of Rex Ryan/Dean Pees blitz packages with simulated pressure looks) but his players on defense may take time to find their identities. Same thing happened to DC MacDonald's first 9 games with the Ravens where coverage wise they were inconsistent. But after the Roquan trade the coverage play was smoother the rest of the season and everyone was able to play their roles well.

    That's an interesting hypothesis. We can probably go back to last year and check. The main counter-argument is that the range is given not to point to an average but to give a big picture idea of where a team might go. Brett and EJ seem to be shying away from quantitative analysis and focusing on more subjective, qualitative elements as it makes for more interesting discussion. Cold hard stats don't paint a perfect picture. If they took a more quantiative approach and didn't project best case scenario for each team, averages for non-contending teams would probably be 1-2 wins lower.

    36:56 I think Brett just figured out an age old question that has been plaguing Bills and Jets fans for the past Decade. Which is ... Why didn't Rex Ryan work out as as Head Coach or long time DC? And the answer was simple all along. His schemes were WAY too complicated. When Brett Broke down the Ravens fire zone scheme and talked about Mike McDonald he mentioned how all Mike did was read Rex Ryan old playbook and simplify Ryan's schemes because they had like 6 different names for one blitz based on alignment. I think this is why Rex Ryan's schemes only worked under veterans who were already familiar with his scheme but not with newcomers and rookies.

  • @lucrative6477

    @lucrative6477

    You completely missed the point. Making a scheme more simple is a good thing. Having a complicated scheme to understand is a bad thing. Rex Ryan never lasted because he’s long been exposed for being awful. He had an all time great group of talent on his defenses, that got beat by rebuilding patriots teams with actual good schemes.

  • @t4d0W

    I mean being a HC also needs more skillsets than just being a DC. If communicating a complicated scheme is difficult enough and needing specific players to make it work, imagine keeping the defensive play caller role *WHILE* having to run the weekly gameplan to explain to the staff and players. And I doubt his ability to delegate the right staff to communicate well was great either. Besides there are plenty of great DC minds (see Dennis Allen) who aren't exactly stand outs as HC roles.

Half the media was calling fields a mvp candidate before the season. This year it is the chargers. They simply do not deserve this hype. They are a bottom 10 team. Plain and simple. They explicitly stated that they are excited about this team’s future, not necessarily the present. 2. Bottom 10 talent by what metrics? Sure, they’re not top 10 or anything, but they have a young top 5-10 QB, a young and talented o-line (just needs to stay healthy), the best SS in the league, and the best OLB tandem in the league. There are clear holes at RB, WR, TE, and maybe CB, but all the thing i listed indicate middle-of-the-pack, not 22nd or below

Then it was weird for Harbaugh to say that, he listens to the experts and those that are more knowledgeable than him in their respective fields, and the only thing that made sense as to why he was would say that is that he was referring to the Palmer/Sanjay situation.
