    Amazing character, dedication, and athleticism. I was never sure on him producing more than maybe just being a reliable target for Josh (We did draft him in the 5th). Man was I wrong. Dude quickly became Josh's go to receiver outside of Diggs, and when Diggs started to vanish late last season, Shakir took it to another level. I now see that he could easily be a WR1 here, at some point, if not for the direction the Bills offense is now headed (heavy spread style), lol. That play against the Steelers epitomizes his resilient style of play. I've watched the highlight probably a hundred times. I still can't believe (neither could the Steelers defense haha) the presence of mind to maintain being upright in the middle of the field, and then the balance and vision to dodge through their entire defense like it was simply JV football. Dawg. Absolute Dawg. Thank you Boise St., we are heavily appreciative of your Bills contribution!!!

    28:05 - You just skated over Matthew Smiley, possibly the worst ST coach in the league. Here is my argument for why he should have been fired at the end of the season, from Reddit about 6 months ago. "I want Smiley gone immediately. Everyone has mentioned great reasons but for me, it comes down to two main things: 1) The decision to cut Matt Haack and play Sam Martin vs. KC. Haack is not a good punter but he is still better than 70% of Martin. 2) The fact that we did not kneel every single kickoff in 2023 and instead of averaging a start position of our own 25, it was effectively from our own 18 yard line. Here's the breakdown: Johnson - 161 yards on 8 returns = 20.1 yards per return Shakir - 98 yards on 5 returns = 19.6 yards per return Harty - 34 yards on 2 returns = 17 yards per return Fournette - 17 yards on 1 return 5 fair catches for 25 yards. Unless we're fielding kicks from our own 7 yard line every single time, this is malpractice by the special teams. Smiley should be fired for this alone." This is, of course, omiting the 12 men on the field penalty that lost us the game against Denver.

    I don't know much about coach Smiley, but I do remember Bobby April, and having a top 5 ST unit nearly every season under his tutelage, and how much it helped both our offense and defense those years. Hopefully if this is a problem, they fix it, ...you seem to have some decent points there...

  • @PCPGumby

    @PCPGumby

    Only problem with this argument is the complete change of the kickoff. Every team will try to kick within the 5 to 1 yard line rather than automatic touchbacks. The proof behind this is the NFL who modeled the XFL kickoff format entirely. Kicking off is far more than its ever been. Special teams will be more important than its ever been, not just kicking power over accuracy in the kicking aspect of football. I think you will also see speed over strength in the kickoff team to match that.

  • @SeanL-jw9rr

    @SeanL-jw9rr

    @@PCPGumby It's going to be more tactical, I can guarantee you that. If the other team fields muscle instead of speed, you'd better be ready to match. Gonna be interesting, and with a LOT of return TD's in the beginning ("adjustment period") Lol. That's my prediction at least... 🤗

    Chiefs also pivoted better to improving the defensive side of the ball as they put all their chips in on a long term Mahomes deal. That has yet to be seen with Beane after giving Allen his big contract and the defense is nowhere near the Chiefs level in the last two seasons coached by Spags. I don't even think the Bills can get it to that level unless they can legit get actual game breakers when facing good offenses in January.

    Masterclass offseason by Beane - Bills are both a rebuilding team and a Super Bowl contender at the same time. Young and ascending roster with a surplus of draft capital in 2025 and a clean cap sheet. They’ve been brutally injured the past couple years and have still managed to be one of the better teams in the league. If they’re finally able to stay healthy and hit on another draft pick or two then this very well may be the year they get over the hump

    I like to point out things all NFL fans & analysts seem unnaturally determined to ignore. Remember Bellichick's reaction to learning Mac Jones was seeking advice outside the Pats? Imagine if he had responded with silence? We'd all *know* Jones was on the outs with him. Well? Fields called out the Bears' coaches *twice publicly.* Remember the responses? Right there weren't any. Not from the owner who should have been concerned he had inept coaches sabotaging his star QB. Not from the HC whose job _certainly should have been on the line_ for losing &/or coaching undermining their star QB. & not from the GM whose career could be haunted or end if he trades away the franchise QB when he could have traded the #1 pick for _WAY more?_ So we had indications that they were moving away from Fields No Matter What no later than week 9 of '22. *Then* we have all the bad plays Getsy got blamed for despite the _FACT_ that Eberflus boasred about meddling in the offense to the extent that the press stopped talking to getsy. No OC can override the HC. So it was _Eberflus_ who cancelled the plays that elevated the offense *twice.* The good play-caller left & the one who can't stop meddling & cancelled good plays remains. & his plays undermined a QB with an identical skill set to the new one. I honestly can't wait. The first time Caleb starts making plays Out Of Structure Eberflus is gonna start taking over the play-calling.

    To be honest about Cook he sometimes doesn’t want to hit the creases as hard as we’d like. Kinda tip toes in there. Then he’s subbed and talked to them comes back out and hits to crease harder.

    Curtis Samuel could be more of a contributor than was mentioned here. When he was in Carolina with Brady as (2020) OC he had 97 targets and 41 rush attempts for over 1000 total yards from scrimmage. Beane decided to make him the only real splash in FA given the cap constrictions. Gotta think Brady pushed for it. Samuel will have a definitive integral role That said I do expect plenty of guys to eat, and more of a “sum of their parts” approach to the target percentage pie. Would love to see Shakir get in the 90+ target range, and Kincaid 120+ Coleman might not be as full time of a player as we’d like initially, though I’m optimistic he turns out to be a baller. Not really expecting him to be a #1 who can earn 140+ targets at any point in his career. But I gotta say hearing your optimism about him as a player has me feeling great about that pick for the Bills. I love the size, physicality, hands, selflessness, and surprising YAC ability he brings to the table. Certainly an upgrade over Gabe imo I can see this WR room making up for their losses of Diggs and Gabe in the collective aggregate

    I'm pretty excited for this season. Got rid of a locker room cancer in Diggs. 2 Great TEs. They finally realized Khalil Shakir is a baller. Curtis Samuel added and Connor McGovern moving back to center. The defense has spent the last 2 years injured, so we didn't really lose much there.

    I would say Allen is 90% of Bills winning or losing. Last year those players who left Bills this year did nothing and many key injured players, this was almost impossible to bring team like way they did last year. This is a war and you lose when you have no weapons left. With Allen, they will use any tools as a weapons and bring W. Some commentators and experts, ex NFL players don’t know Allen yet or they just hate JA because they have other preference. Go Bills!! No Worries!!!

    Buffalo’s scoring didn’t change significantly from Dorsey to Brady… I think they averaged something like 26.4 points per game under Dorsey and 27.2 points per game under Brady. I assure you that Buffalo’s didn’t win any games by 3/4 of a point. No… what changed their fortunes was that they reduced turnovers and with the addition of Douglas at CB, solidified their secondary. These two things reduced the number of extra possessions and points that they gave to their opponents. The offense played like garbage in close games all season. Case in point, the Bills went 11-0 against opponents that they held to 21 points or less. Josh Allen and the offense went 1-7 against teams that scored more than 21. The Bills only gave up more than 21 points 3 times under Brady ( Eagle’s, Chargers, KC divisional game) and went 1-2 in that stretch. Meaning they were 0-4 in games that opponents scored more than 21 under Dorsey.

    There is that but also, if the Bills are serious about being a *real* SB contender they have to make football changes and decisions that will make them better against the Chiefs (defense) match up. Thing is moves like Von Miller signing, the lack of game breakers on defense and the offense that still defaults to JA hero ball in desperation mode doesn't inspire confidence that they could make a real playoff push in January.

    One thing that I didn't notice was an honest appraisal of Gabe Davis - not that I think you guys were anything less than honest. Gabe wasn't good. He had a big game in a playoff game, but beyond that he was disappointing. He was directly responsible for too many interceptions that were credited to Allen. He would run the wrong route. He dropped too many catches. Honestly, I feel bad for Jags fans that think he's going to make a difference for Lawrence. You guys were spot on with Diggs. His first few seasons were great. 2023 he started strong and disappeared after game six. He disappeared in the playoffs. He wanted targets and Josh spent too many snaps trying to feed him the ball. That drop in the 2023/2024 divisional round was egregious and he ran back to the huddle laughing and saying "this close" (thumb & forefinger gesture). Shakir had way more receptions on way fewer targets. As a Bills fan I have some hope for 2024. Still, as you guys said, their WR room is a question. It might turn out well. It might not turn out well. Regardless, in the 2025 season the Bills will be rolling in with cap space to spare. Let this team get a couple of good receivers and the rest of the league is in trouble.

    Y'know there was one point near the end of the 2022 season before Allen got that elbow injury where his QB play in all 3 levels was close to immaculate. He could drop the big bombs but he could also fire 15-20 yard lasers on demand underneath and he was getting comfy with the short passing game (even though that part of the Bills pass game in 2023 was shaky). If Joe Brady could get Allen to that point again in 2024 with the tools he has on offense beyond week 9, the Bills may have something going that would finally give an answer to the Chiefs in January. Because they can't pray that some other AFC team tries to take them out.

    The Bills lost a bunch of over the hill 'big names' but lost very little production. Leonard Floyd, a 1 year rental player who balled out for the Bills, and Morse the C were the actual big losses (pun intended!) Take a look at the splits for Diggs and Davis the second half of the season and compare it to Kincaid and Shakir.... Very telling. The 5 game win streak was fueled by Cook/ Kincaid/ Shakir and Allen doing Allen things. Bills are going to be running more with Cook and Ray Davis (R), passing to TEs more and then its up to Shakir and whoever sticks at WR to make an occasional play. I'm not even sold on Coleman, Bills should have stuck and taken Legette IMO. They may drop to the @10 win mark, but should still be competing for the division and a playoff position late into the season.

Elam has had a really good run so far this year. (Coaching change) Babich will be hard to hold on to after this year. (Kinda sounds like Mike McDaniel as a DC ) They know what they are doing.

    Something always rubbed me the wrong way about Kyle Allen. I can't exactly put my finger on it, ...but he seemed to have a narcissistic edge without having the talent to back it up, ...maybe? Or maybe it was like he seemed jealous of Josh's talents, instead of impressed and grateful? I dunno, ...but I DO know that Mitch Trubisky is the prototype backup QB you want in an offense like Buffalo's. Can't believe we ever let him go. My guess is either cap reasons, or he was hoping to maybe have a chance to actually start somewhere..., but it just never panned out. When Josh finally goes to the bench due to injury, I'm going to be very glad Mitch is coming in... Solid move by Beane, no surprise there, lol

    I believe James Cook has yet to really impress. He's been quite good and explosive for us, but I don't think we're really using him right yet. Man has the skillset to be a very dangerous scatback, but I believe he is a severely underrated "between-the-tackles" back. He plays larger than his size, and he absolutely blew my mind being able to grind out the tough yards consistently, and especially his ability to avoid losses or even early contact, ...on plays most other RB's wouldn't, using his vision/patience/burst. I love this kid, ...super quiet Dawg though lol. His interviews always get me smiling, I personally think his ceiling still has a ways to go, and can't wait to see how Joe Brady elevates his use this year. Go 🦬🦬🦬!!!
