I was reading about an awful helicopter crash in Texas that tragically killed not only the pilot, but also two young newlyweds......literally minutes after their wedding. Amongst the mainly sympathetic messages was one which said, "Awesome, you get to spend your honeymoon with Jesus". A truly sickening sentiment - 3 lives lost, 2 of them celebrating the happiest day of their lives, in what will no doubt have been a horrific accident, and someone thinks that it's "awesome". It beggars belief that someone, (evidently called Carol) would actually post that message.

May i present to you, my version of pascals wager, where i removed the black and white fallacy: There are lots of storys about gods all over the world. Many of them condemn the belief in the other gods. So i can assume believing in the wrong god will get me into some kind of hell. Also, i have no way of telling wich one might be the correct one story. Therefore, the safest thing to do is admitting that i just don't know. All i can do is do my best to live my life so that it not hurts anyone, preferrably helping people, trying to minimize any negative impact of my life on the earth. So when i die and there should really some creator, i can step in front of him and confidentially say: "I did the best i could do". And if i die and there is no god, i can die knowing that i will be remembered as a nice person.

(From my book) In Exodus 32, Moses returned to camp carrying the Ten Commandments, only to find his followers had made a golden calf to worship. Knowing the tablets would probably be ineffective at this particular moment, or by sheer anger; he dropped the tablets breaking them. He then proceeded to massacre three thousand of his own people under the pretense of God’s wrath. After this calmed the crowd down, he went back up the mountain to make new tablets. How convenient the next set of tablets covered the topics of: do not worship any other God, do not make fake idols of God, and do not use God’s name in vain. Any reasonable person can see, Moses never spoke to God, knew God, or received directions from God, but merely devised a plan to control his mob through killings and text. How could God be so intimidated by a gold relic? Surely, God’s love and power could overcome a small inanimate piece of gold? But for Moses to control his mob, he had to paint God as vindictive, revengeful, jealous, and an angry God. A God so insane he is willing to kill his beloved creations.

God wants to have a relationship with His children, wants us to understand His free gift of Jesus' sacrifice to pay for our sins so our souls can be with Him in Heaven. You cannot earn your way into Heaven. The Bible, particularly the New Testament, clearly states that you can only enter Heaven through Jesus Christ. When I was a boy, my aunt would read to me Bible stories and would try to get me to pray with her to Jesus, and would tell me that he was the only way to get to Heaven. Even from an early age, I had my doubts, I had my questions. *"Was this Jesus a real person?"* *"What did he really look like during his day?"* Pics depicted Jesus as being male, Caucasian, with long brown hair and a beard. But given where the Bible took place, I imagined him with darker skin, looking like a typical Middle-Eastern man, possibly with long hair, a beard. *"If he was real, like Christians say he was/is, would he have really cared if you believed in him?"* The older I got, the more I decided that I wasn't going to just blindly follow her line of reasoning that I should believe in Jesus, or even accept him as my so called "lord and saviour".

Seth, this was great. I had always been told that Jesus was tall, beautiful, perfect. Even though my Mom wasn't very religious, I saw, as a young teen,JC Superstar! My dad (during my only 'visit', divorced) took me to see, live, at 12. My dad was, especially later, but I wasn't around him. I , at 18, after sporadic church hopping, almost got into JW's. Had to read the bible, cover to cover, and a couple versions. That did it for me. I was atheist, after learning more history, anti-theist! Just didn't have the terminology! If I wasn't sort of stuck between 80yr(very healthy) Mom, and 50yr, very sick sister, Mom and I support, caretake, I'd be a huge activist! So many KZread, (my only social medium!) Or do people really require a human figure to worship in order to feel kinship with their deity? If Christians can believe in god without seeing him, then what purpose does Jesus serve if it isn't to hammer home the idea that humanity is special enough to look like god? That's pretty much why carrier is wrong. If you start with a historical Jesus (a normal human being who wandered around with a handful of followers rambling about his ideas and gets deified after his death) it makes sense that there is a human figure there. Start with the assumption it's all made up and it makes a lot less sense.

@@siblinganon66 I wouldn't say it makes a whole lot of sense either way. If Jesus even existed, and if he existed in the time and place that the unreliable sources claim he did, he was hardly the only prophet around, was he? Jerusalem was as littered with holy men as Vegas is covered with slot machines, so why should Jesus stand out? Because he was...drum roll......SUPER Jesus!? Or very charismatic and/or attractive? I've heard a lot of people make the point about him having blue eyes, which is exceedingly rare in that part of the world, so maybe his audiences were drawn to those? Who the fuck knows? People are idiots. But I've heard it said that he was simply a popular prophet who was chosen to represent the new religion that the Romans had decided to exploit in order to control the population of Judea. They weren't going to become Romans any time soon, so having a hand-picked Messiah to lead them, would be very handy, politically speaking.

Like tent revivalists but without the tents, smaller crowds and a lot fewer people who could write about it. Pretty doubtful Jesus was chosen by the Romans though. The crucifixion and the inri sign are generally regarded as likely authentic which suggests Roman displeasure. The washing of hands a later addition to make up to Rome. And Rome was allied to the temple hierarchy. A possible interpretation of the give the emperor his due and god his is a cry for revolt. Judea being god's land giving god his own could mean kick the Romans out.

@@siblinganon66 All right, but if we assume that Jesus existed, whose Messiah was he? To the Romans, he was just troublemaker whom they feared might stir up a revolt. And the Jews wanted him dead for blasphemy. And the Arabs have never believed in him as a deity of any kind. So how could he become such an influential figure if he only had a handful of followers who tagged along? By being kind and understanding? I doubt it. To me, it seems more likely that Jesus is an amalgamation of various myths and legends, handpicked and borrowed from other cultures and religions. And whoever wrote the bible was only too happy to include "the deity to rule them all"...

  • @siblinganon66

@@SpaceCattttt Judaism was very different back then. There were huge conflicts between the temple hierarchy who were allied with the Romans and took hard cash for every prayer and healing ritual they performed and the poorer masses. The whole money lender in the temple bit. The diaspora was very well established, too, and there were conflicts there, too. Guru got popular, spread through the diaspora, Paul gets the gentiles in. The group with the closest connection to the historical Jesus got wiped out in the revolt of 70 I think it was. Lots of changes on a relatively short time. That there are a lot of influences from all kind of other cults isn't in doubt. But the best way to model the progression is by starting with a real human who had other ideas attached after his death. That simply offers the best basis for a historical interpretation. And btw, Arabs would be extremely ahistorical in this context. And if you mean Islam didn't pick up Jesus later... In Islam Jesus is a prophet who is supposed to return later to fight the antichrist. Just not the main prophet.

I saw a news story about a family dog who was bitten by a rattle snake while defending the family baby from that snake. They were able to get the dog to the vet in time and it recovered. Everyone was thanking God for protecting the child, but I was thinking about how this even came about. The snake enters the back yard while hunting for food. The snake had no ill intentions, and had no idea that people were in this area. God sees this, realizes the child is in danger and takes control of the dog to kill the snake. But if God's intention is to protect the child, then it would be better to take control of the snake and prevent it ever entering the yard. This way no one is placed in danger, the dog avoids getting a painful, life threatening injury, the family saves the money it had to spend on treating the dog's snake bite, and the snake survives. But of course, none of the people would have known that God had saved the family. If God had anything to do with this, he'd be like the guy who sets a house on fire to rescue the family. This story doesn't make God out to be a hero at all. In fact, he killed a snake, hurt a dog, and cost the family several hundred dollars.

I've been watching some videos about narcissists lately. We seth quotes "If you only understood who Jesus is" made me think. That's a classic narcissist gaslighting response! They try to get you to think you misunderstood your you are crazy. If they can get you to distrust you own mind and experience, they can tell you anything.

Maybe you should read the New Testament and find out about Jesus, then you can make your own decision of what to believe. Jesus is the only path to Heaven. If you aren't living for God, then your soul will spend eternity with Satan in Hell. Heaven or Hell. That's the choice forever.

Jesus seems to me to be a concept that is just adapted to suit whichever cultures particular need and wants are, the various different ethnic depictions of Jesus seems to support this. Now I do not know what and if there is any truth behind the characters of Jesus but one thing is for sure I do not see anything that would have supported him actually being a divine person who was capable of doing the sort of magical feats he is claimed to have done in the Bible other than the Bible itself, as using the course of a claim as the evidence for the claim obviously has huge issues, especially when other parts of the Bible do not match up with what we know about our reality.

You are spiritually lost. Jesus Christ is the only path to Heaven. If you ignore this, your soul will spend eternity with demons. Be afraid to die unless you learn who Jesus is and believe in Him. It's your choice. Once you die, its too late. Your soul doesn't just go to sleep. It lives forever in Heaven or Hell. It doesn't matter whether you believe that or not. That is God's Truth.

Hello. I love you. It’s you and Aron that set my brain back on track. I grew up in a religious home. Crazy parents. Lots of beatings. Didn’t much help me. As a child, my atheism actually began from my RAGE at Jesus and god for not caring enough about the cavemen and the animals to save them from eternal torture..... or to allow them all into heaven. Now, I’m functionally autistic, in case that’s not a normal line of thinking. I was mad because my mom called me retarded when I informed her I didn’t like the idea of watching my family and friends burn in Hell forever, even if that means I would go to heaven. That’s not heaven. And if there’s a hell, there can never be a heaven for me.... so I didn’t want to go. ....AND... my parents so kindly referred to me as “stupid child.” For YEARS AND YEARS as a result. And then I found others like myself. Though a whole lot less “WEIRD” than me, you two brilliant humans taught me I was NOT alone anymore AND there ARE OTHERS OUT THERE that think along the same lines. And to think. I found a family and role models in you and Aron both. And I never ever ever looked up to anyone. EVER. . You’re the first person I found. I accidentally clicked on you. Because curiosity. And I laughed till I cried. (Christianity made me talk like an idiot). And now: I’ve waited a bunch of your content, and. I’m not scared anymore! I can speak up and confidently fight back rather than let others torture the weaker with religious stupidity. And now, others are starting to ACTUALLY gravitate to my beliefs and the little turd birds can fall and panic in their little godly corners. And even my husband started VOLUNTARILY watching the videos that helped me become ok with being a loving patient, kind, atheist that loves people . Which is hecking awesome considering I used to be a judgmental confused pile of human shite, who was terrified of everyone and everything. So yea. Before I get all mushy. I wanted to say thank you. You’ve helped me understand the insanity I was unable to process on my own. You are responsible for more good in my life than religion ever could have. You allowed me to use humor to laugh at the insanity and feel less pained by the years I lost (Adventist - soviet, and wayyyyyyy strict on the Bible.) you showed me I can live a good life without god. With just the time I have and the person I am. That atheism isn’t all drug addicted violent hateful nazi evil hearted Satan-loving , dancing around cauldrons and summoning demons to kill Christians. Sounds stupid, but I don’t know how else to explain this. And what else would I know but what I’ve been taught for years and years. So I must say, Thanks for doing what you do. You give terrified kids and confused pained hearts, a chance at brotherhood, peace, understanding, connection, and...well.... hope... Though it’s not quite enough, I don’t think any words could accurately convey the impact you and your work has had on my life. But at the least, I can leave with a genuine thank you. And I hope this brings a smile to your face, and reassures you that both you (as a person) as well as your efforts mean something to far more people than you could ever know. You matter. So peace and love your way, to you and yours, always and all ways; AJ

Seth, for all the talking about god and Jesus, it still amounts to people talking about things that are not in evidence and DO NOT CURRENTLY EVINCE THEMSELVES. My attitude is simple, until either of these characters can be bothered to actually SHOW THEMSELVES, then all the believers are doing is indulging in impotent hand-waving. And I have no time for that.

I have always wondered if there was a story behind the expression on the finished face. I would have expected that if the artist was a believer, that a more serious or loving expression would have been their choice. What we get is the expression of a guy who didn't make it to the bathroom and shit his tunic in public...priceless! 🤣
