    Yes, ok. But, as far as I can determine, he has always been very factual and verifiable within all his videos. He sensibly and methodically completely debunks most, if not all, of the stories and fables brought by christians relating to Jesus and creation. He very effectively shows how abiogenesis has taken place and that evolution is a verifiable fact. End of. How he looks and sounds, to me at least, is fairly irrelevant. The first one to a point, is up to him and the second one, mostly isn't. It's the content to me that's important. (Plus, how do u know what 70's porn music sounds like? ) Lol.

    The Bible says in John 3:16-36 that whoever believes in the Lord Jesus Christ shall not perish but have everlasting life, the Bible also says in Romans 10:9 that those who declare with their mouth that Jesus Christ is their God, Lord, and Savior they shall be saved. Revelation 1:8 says that Jesus is the alpha and the omega. Luke and revelation is the ending times, and Jesus is returning back. So are you going to submit your life to him or no? Narrow is the path that leads to the gates of heaven, but only few people find it. The gates that is the path to destruction is where many people find it! Jesus loves you SO MUCH! That he died on the cross, and was resurrected from the dead 3 days later to give us eternal life…….

    In an argument about the historicity of Jesus, I tried to make this same point, at which point I was accused of goalpost shifting. I tried to explain, if you attempted to prove Spiderman was real, but he didn't sling webs, was never bit by a radioactive spider, wasn't named Peter, his gf wasn't Maryjane, etc. How is Spiderman still real if none of the attributes you associate with Spiderman are accurate? At what point is the statement falsifiable?

    Irving Ceron To confirm historical rulers is easier. Their claims are more believable and do not require as much evidence. There's no real reason for people who wrote about them to lie. However. People lie for religion constantly and quite vigorously. So, it is much more plausible someone would lie to protect the faith. I deal with YEC all the time. Their beliefs are rooted in logical fallacies. To say my Spiderman analogy is a false equivallence is laughable. It shows you have a clear cognative bias if you think it's fallacious. Whether Spiderman is a moral figure is completely irrelevant to the point being made. If you think Jesus and everything in the bible is completely historical and 100% confirmed by unbiased historians you really have done no research on the topic at all, which is to say, you are the YEC of this scenario.

  • @spacedoohicky

    @spacedoohicky

    +Irving Ceron So Spiderman isn't real because he's not a moral figure? That's a strangely specific claim.

  • @HouseofReason78

    @HouseofReason78

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Irving Ceron You cannot demonstrate that Jesus was not also purely fictitious. Some historians think he may have existed as a real person, but not be anything more than a schmuck with no miracles, which is closer to the first gospel and already proving Jesus of the bible pure fiction from a certain point of view. That does not mean the overwhelming majority of historians who think this to be true is in a similar proportion of the number of biologists who agree on evolution. For one, there is no plausible evidence for creationism. There is no plausible explanation of the evidence to fit a creationist point of view by any qualified biologist. There are several qualified historians with several plausible explanations for Jesus being only myth turned historical. This was very common of the time. If Jesus, a real person, existed, he would be the only one of this type of story to be based on a real person, which is used many times in stories around the region, most predating Jesus's time. Which means Spiderman explanation is completely legitimate. The only way it's fallacious is if you can prove Jesus of the bible 100% accurate, which you can't do. The fact that Spiderman is undisputed as fiction does not negate my point at all. The point was the attributes of a person is what makes the person. Real historical figures may have lies about them, but since no one thinks Rasputin can fly or whatever does not erase his actual accomplishments which he is actually known for. Now if Rasputin was famous for his flying, then I would say Rasputin did not exist either. A leader who did things may have existed, but a flying Rasputin is fictional. Furthermore, if there were historians who thought Rasputin were fictional and had evidence of flying Rasputin had rational explanations I would much sooner believe the rational explanation.

  • @spacedoohicky

    @spacedoohicky

    Irving Ceron False equivalence maybe, but what if there was a man that the character Jesus was based on? If he didn't say the things he was purported to say, didn't perform any miracles, didn't fit the description in the bible, wasn't born of a virgin birth, wasn't divine, wasn't born or died on the specified days, wasn't crucified, didn't rise from the dead, most the people who were purported to have known him didn't exist, Jesus/Yeshua wasn't his name (or he might as well have been named Fred), and more than 99% of the story was embellished, or exaggerated for dramatic effect or to fit prophecy -- then what? Might as well pick a Hebrew name out of a hat, and that would be the confirmed historical Jesus. Besides I prefer archaeology over history any day. At least a historian would have to be forced to concede to the evidence of archaeology (or lack of), and not just use the popular opinions of his/her peers.

    But we know sooo much about him. Kal-El, son of Jor-El, last survivor of the planet Krypton flees to Earth and crash lands in Kansas. Is adopted by human parents and grows up as Clark Kent. Receives remarkable powers from Earth's yellow sun, including superhuman strength, the ability to fly, and laser beam vision. Goes to work as a journalist at the Daily Planet in the city of Metropolis and falls in love with a reporter named Lois Lane. Begins to secretly wear tights and a cape and fight villains under the alias of 'Superman'. Arch enemies include a billionaire named Lex Luthor and a Kryptonian AI named Braniac. Why would we know so much about him, including names, if he wasn't real?

    In a conversation with my mother I asked her once whether she thinks Jesus was real. Not just "some schmock" named Jesus of Nazareth who got cruzified by the Romans, no but the Jesus who did actual Jesus things and said actual Jesus stuff, so that "glorified" person. She said that, even if he did not exist, she'd still believe in Christianity, because even if fictional, Jesus was such a very wise man, wiser than anyone else, that he's the equivalent of being the real Son of God. That was a rather unexpected response, I must admit. When I later challenged her and said that propably, with the exception of Paul and maybe Peter, none of the apostels can be confirmed to be historical persons either... she totally lost her shit: "Now the apostels are not real too? Get outta here, I have no time for your bullshit. What websites have you been surfing again? Do you believe everything they say on the internet?" O..M..G. That reaction left me thunderstruck. As if the apostels were more important than Jesus... xD True story.

    I actually think it's a lot like the story of the Mormon church's beginnings used in Hitchens' book. Jesus and Christianity in general are both the remnants of a con job which eventually became more than it was meant to be. In the case of Jesus, he never existed as Christians think of him today. Whether or not there was a historical person named Jesus is irrelevant.

    I tend to think that Jesus went east during his early adulthood, fell in and learned from some Buddhists and then returned to try to minister to people - while being very careful to couch his sermons and parables in the popular religious metaphor of the day. And the Romans that put this whole religion on the map a few centuries later missed that part.

    @@skylinemusik1 Ok.... in the source material used for the current New Testament or to validate it, such as Josephus, there are many different people named Jesus aside from the main protagonist Jesus Christ that are mentioned, estimates in the 20s+ (Jesus son of Damneus, Yeshua (Jesus) bar Abba (Barabbas)) Yeshua bar Abba is especially problematic because Barabbas is the criminal that is released instead of Jesus during the crucifixion. The story of that event has many variants that name Barabbas as Jesus Barabbas (Yeshua bar Abba) so we have 2 people named Jesus being crucified at the same time, and some scholars believe the name of Jesus was removed from Barabbas out of reverence to the name because "The church father Origen said, "In the whole range of the scriptures we know that no one who is a sinner [is called] Jesus." Going even further, the Aramaic name Bar Abba means "son of the father." Very indicative of multiple people/stories being smashed together. The event of choosing between Jesus and Barabbas is symbolic of Yom Kippur where parts of the ceremony include 1 goat being chosen to be given to "the lord" and a 2nd goat being given to "Azazel" or is the "scapegoat") . During this time people usually had 1 name and no surname so they needed titles to differentiate them such as where they were from, who were their parents or relatives, were they baptized members of the church or not, etc etc furthering the problem. There are tons of videos and other resources from highly regarded scholars that can prove this for you.

Anyway, you really didn’t answer my question about the “J” in Jesus during the 2020 year claimed. It was NOT in any way a letter or name used in Aramaic or Hebrew. That’s a big deal. WHY is the name Jesus used??? I’m certainly NOT claiming the figure known as Jesus didn’t exist, but perhaps really possessed another name. I’m aware of names as Yeshua & a few others but it is literally nonsensical to me for writers of scripture to call him Jesus. Ironically, every single time I get the “close” that... Jesus really existed there is NO logical and demonstrative answer. It’s always: “The name doesn’t matter or we’ll it’s in the Bible!” I find it absolutely illogical to profess this as truth when it has no basis in fact or historical record. I love the teachings of Jesus for the most part, but I’m starting to think that believers are more emphatic to believe in believing rather than examining with a discerning mind. If the very name of the supposed Lord and Savior is wrong, then how could anyone exclaim “absolute truth” in the rest of that scripture???? Come on here! That nowhere in the New Testament the realistic name was used, should give an idea, how much of the content is fictionalized.

    Imagination doesn’t claim to have designed perfectly balanced universe. God does. God says he wrote the Bible through insipiration of many very different men. Did they all continue the same imagination in complete perfection. I don’t think so. I don’t take advice from dead people anyways. If they knew all there was to know about the universe and why people do things they would probably figured out immortality before they died. BUT THE FUNNY THING IS LMAO IS THEY NEVER BELIEVE IN IMMORTALITY ITSELF. Haha how are you supposed figure out immortality if you your sole purpose was to spend your all your study’s disproving God. Silly atheists, they don’t realize they are just as sick as every other selfish person in the world and they will die trying to convince themselves.

    jokerss jokess I was arrogant in my response, it was ill written. “If atheist are sick and selfish” If you read my the end of my message correctly you would come to understanding that when I said atheist are just as sick and selfish as anyone else. It meant Christians and other humans alike. I didn’t put Christians in there own ring of perfection. Don’t put words in my mouth. Read it again you will see I never claimed Christian as perfect. Atheist don’t have to kill people in the name of atheism to be ruthless murderers, Joseph Stalin killed 60 million. Now let me let you in on a secret. The religious warfare of Christianity came from the ROMAN CATHOLICS. They worship the Virgin Mary over Jesus Christ. They are not Christians and they only consider themselves Christian yet they follow no doctrine of Jesus Christ. That’s why Protestant churches exclude Catholics from being considered Christians. They don’t worship Jesus of Nazareth that was beaten, tortured and flogged by the Caiphus of the Pharisees and Roman leader Pontius Pilate. Then Jesus was crucified for his claim to be God and his power to save mankind from the Sin that each human has in there heart and being. The selfishness and wickedness each person posses that we deserve to die for. So he promised his resurrection was insurance that we would be resurrected as well if we believe on him because he was God in the flesh and lived a sinless life. So after he died they laid him in a rich mans tomb and which fulfilled prophecy written one thousand years earlier and on third day he rose from the Dead and was witnessed by many. 4 Of Jesus disciples had accounts written of what they witnessed which was translated on Greek manuscripts. So we have 4 different accounts of the same story to compare side by side. The book of the Bible is composed of Greek manuscripts from pre 100 A.D writing in century of the life of Jesus Christ Our Lord and Saviour. You Forget that Men Create Wars over Negligence not God. Leave God out of mans evil doing or wrath will come upon you swiftly. You may choose to accept God or Reject him. That is your free will. He will not force you to love him, just like you can’t force a woman to love you. Love can only be freely given.

    Here's an example where we know who is the real person behind the tale: Santa Clause. Of course, when you look at bishop Nicholas of Myra, there is actually very little he has in common with Santa Clause. That's what happens when you build a myth from an earlier myth based on an even earlier myth based on a real person - the fictional elements replace the factual elements. (And I am not even certain how well the story of the bishop corresponds to what he actually did in the first place.)

    There's an interesting comparison to make with King Arthur too - until the 1980s historians believed that he was in fact a historical figure that had been romanticised over the centuries, he and things he was supposedly involved with appears in a number of independent written works and folktales, however there's not a shred of actual evidence to corroborate any of it and we know that one of the primary sources for Arthurian legend (Geoffery of Monmouth) was full of shit. It seems to me that the historicity of Arthur and Jesus have a similar weight of evidence, however both the miracle-performing Jesus of the Bible and the legendary Arthur have one thing in common: both could have existed as actual people, but in order for them to have existed as portreyed in stories about them you must believe in magic.

    The fun fact is, King Arthur's tale bares so many parallels to the Jesus story that many speculate whether King Arthur is based off the common format that transcends throughout multiple theologies: • 1 King/Savior/Diety • 12 Disciples or followers • Brings about enlightenment However, on theology, it has even more parallels: • Resurrection • Immaculate Conception • Crucifixion And many more. I know he covers that with theology, but King Arthur's legend also seems to be a story that bares much likeness to these various "saviors" within mythology.

    I have always wondered about the names the Bible gives us for the disciples of Jesus. Simon Peter, James (the Elder), James (the Younger), John, Jude (Thaddeus), Matthew (Levi), Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew (Nathanial), Andrew, Simon, and finally Judas. These names are now, for the most part, basically prominent Anglicized names, seemingly. These people lived in the Middle East where names and the tradition of family names have existed with honor for thousands of years. Why is it that even today, there are virtually no people from the Middle East, Arab or Jewish, Muslim or even Christian, that have such names. Even in the Bible itself, until the New Testament, such Anglicized names did not exist. Since the Bible was written by people with agendas, and has been rewritten and edited for special purposes time and time again, how can anyone use this as nothing more than a collection of fictional moral stories equivalent to those of Aesop's Fables?

  • @TheBartomon

    @TheBartomon

    +Tawnku Imi-Uru The names are the way they are because it's literature - not history. The Gospels of the New Testament were written originally in Koine Greek. They were not eyewitness accounts. It is possible that they were commissioned by ruling elites serving the Roman State and written as a sort of propaganda story primarily for a domestic audience in and around Rome and only in certain Roman provinces and cities. - impacting outside of these centers to less of a degree than currently assumed (at least in the earlier years (pre-400 AD). Or maybe they were more like the Charles Dickens novels of their time. But then things got out of hand. People use this book in all sorts of very horrible ways. It's a very pesky form of black magick because it presents itself as good and beneficial, but really isn't.

    +Tawnku Imi-Uru It does get interesting though if one starts looking at the Gospels as Astro-Theology. Jesus as Sun or 13th (hidden) Sign of the Zodiac (possibly Ophiuchus) and the 12 disciples as the 12 signs of the Zodiac. See DaVinci's Last Supper and Zodiac. Revelation has a very striking Astro-Theological sub-text. It's all syncretism really. Beg, borrow, steal from the Vedas, Egyptian Lore, Sumerian Lore, etc.

    +Tawnku Imi-Uru Yes! I have many beliefs about God. My goto is: God is Everything and Every Non-Thing Imaginable and /or Unimaginable. ( I think this puts me in a position wherein I don't place any demands on anyone.) I recognize that I am a limited and bounded creature so I attempt to be sincere in what I can and do know and humble in the face of what I don't or can't know. But I do have a sense that there is something very impressive "out there" that makes existence possible. And if this is the case, then a stance of personal gratitude and complete awe is the most natural emotional state that I can connect to the idea. In terms of theology, what I reject most strongly are the Abrahamic religious traditions that seek to prescribe strict behaviors on people, often through dishonest methods and empty rituals.

In the earlier Hebrew telling, Jesus didn't mention Hell, he was talking about separation from his Father and possible destruction of your very being. The parable we see with the man in Hell asking for a drop of water was added in later. Closest to Hell the Hebrews had was Sheol which is the Grave and non-existence originally and then it morphed to be the trash fire outside the walls which was used to represent the destruction you faced if you were unrepentant, not torture, obliteration.

    Jesus is actually mentioned by ancient writers and historians from that time period. Flavious Josephus, Tacitus, and others talk about Him. Roman officials such as Pliny the Younger wrote letters complaining about His followers. Clearly non Biblical writers and historians from that time period knew that Jesus did exist. They did not view Him as a made up individual. Though they did not follow Him and viewed His followers as troublesome they nevertheless acknowledged His reality.

    Those claims have been around a long time, and debunked many times over. When faced with any type of evidence or argument, we should all ask ourselves "are we digging as best we can for the truth, wherever it leads? Are we examining all claims to find out if they were faked, or misrepresented? Or are we taking them at face value because they are comforting and support our position? Are we just using them to confirm our previously held position?" These are very difficult questions to ask ones self, and even harder to answer honestly. But they will help us identify biases in our judgement, so that we can pursue truth.
