The Ten Commandments

There is no greater damnation of the commandments than reading what the Bible has to say about them. Anyone who argues for reverence of the damn Commandments in our government buildings should see this video and shut up afterward. This was my presentation to the Secular Humanists of East Texas at Stephan F Austin State University in Nacogdoches TX on 2014/04/26.

@@marcelschellekens6386 your mistake is believing that you wouldnt be grovelling at his feet for mercy. Because the same questions you are asking Him He'll be asking you. If you need to understand why children die, you should've read the bible. If you wondered where they ended up after they died, you should've read the bible. If you base your atheism based upon the fact that you're in a harsh world where kids get cancer and die then therein lies your problem. Its not that you don't know that God exists you just believe that you are more righteous than Him.

I always thought it was odd that the creator of all languages was so inept that it wrote a book so open to interpretation. One thing that preachers always do...ALWAYS...is say something like..."this is what the Bible says, now let me tell you what it means...or let me tell you what god means by that". The individual human interpreters aspect to his or hers god's word is so transparent to me. It always has been. Just yet another reason why I had to take a couple steps back and say, "Hey, wait a sec" when in came to the inerrant word of the creator of all. Gee, one would think that, even in translation, its words would not be up for human interpretation.

FishHeadSalad One thing you have to realize dude is you're talking about the English language. There are so many words that mean the same thing, but has a completely different context to them. It's a mixture of literally 4 different languages, (German, French, Greek, Latin) and has so many rules and interpretations literally due to the simple order of words. Bloody hell, simple sentences get misinterpreted in text messages all the time. It's no surprise to me that so many different people can get different interpretations.

No one knows everything. You can know a lot about something yet a little percentage about that particular thing would still be there to know. What is narcissistic in the behavior of people for me is that they will believe that everyone is below them for believing something different and find it to be a joke.

There's always something to learn as long as you live. I don't mean to be uptight about anything. It's kinda upsetting to see people berate other people who they deem intellectually inept because of the difference in views. Yes, some things indeed are too ludicrous to believe. I just believe that there is something more extraordinary and bigger than us out there; outside of our control that caused this existence. I believe the Bible is correct from all I have read and researched about it. Science is a wonderful thing, though there is much it still hasn't been able to discover yet and is still discovering. There is a lot that is plausible. Not all is correct but it can be corrected with the revelation of new discoveries Peace :)

@Link of Hyrule post your last comment on this thread because i cannot respond because it has 500 comments. You know....that bullshit about Zues or Muslims. I told you i experienced God. So i Cant follow a Zeus because Zeus never revealed himself to me therefore i Cant endorse Zeus. Here is where you error. Christianity is the only "religion", that has thousands upon thousands of people who are claiming to experience God. Claiming to hear His voice and being healed by Him and feeling His tangible presence. The mentioned that the Undertaker. WWE's long reigning wrestling champ is now a Christian. Because Christianity has produced people who are your peers and have gone through your educational system and are more than well off and aren't in a third world poverty stricken country this shows that Christianity is has the truth. Christianity is still applicable today. Judges, doctors, lawyers historians, firefighters, police officers are Christians. Only Christianity has consistent testimonials from people who claim to have experienced miracles. No other "religion" has that. You cannot even meet the Muslim God. He is unapproachable. So of course you Atheists will overlook this. Ted Debassi, sting, AJ styles, and the Undertaker are Christians. Are they stupid for their belief or have they met the actual one and only true God. An atheist fails to analyze reality because their failed logic is always in their way

Hargis Pennington Question, if god is jealous of other gods because he wants to be known as the true god, why would he allow Satan to be alive? Considering Satan is supposed to stand for everything that is opposite the teachings of the Bible, you would think the omnipotent, all power, eternal being that created everything would be able to boot Satan. If god was real and had the power you claim he does he would be the one true god and other religions wouldn’t have come about. It’s funny that the one true god didn’t finally show his face until centuries after other religions were crafted. He is self admittedly jealous of the other gods, but waited all that time to finally do something about it? Ok. Keep living in your fairy land devoting your life for nothing.

My favorite point: *"There's a funny thing about God; he can make dinosaurs and viruses and everything that humans **_can't_** make, but he can't make **_anything_** that humans **_can_** make*. He can't make a box, or a boat, or a building.. he can't write anything himself, and he _never_ demonstrates that he has any more knowledge, wisdom or understanding than the simple _people_ who have to do all of his work for him." This is true of many religions, and not just Christianity. It's true in the past and today. Why does God have to tell you who to kill, instead of snapping his fingers and making them go poof? Why does God have to whisper in your ear to tell you what social policies he wants you to promote, instead of just telling everyone what he wants? Why does God have to ghost-author a book through the tool of anonymous fallible human men writing in only the local language, instead of pretty much any other method of communicating with the world? It's almost like God is just a concept and not an entity. The power of any given god seems to be directly proportional to how many people believe that the god has power. If a million people believe that God wants X to happen, then by golly X is going to happen - but "God" won't be doing it.

Branden Black Well, to be fair, you did reply specifically to my posting, so that rather invites debate, or at least conversation. And I'm sorry, but with all due respect, that's a bogus response. I've read the Bible. I spent a year and a half very genuinely trying to believe. It never took. And I worked VERY hard at it, spending time with the pastors of my church, reading the Bible, and doing study with others from the church. People like Seth Andrews and Matt Dillahunty were DEEPLY immersed in the church for many, many years before leaving it behind. So, again, with what supposedly lies in the balance, God really, really needed to do a better job of convincing us. And let's be honest. If a Muslim were to say to you "Allah will give understanding of His word and bring clarity to anyone who reads it, all they have to do is ask Him", I very sincerely you could just flip a switch, even if you wanted to, and suddenly "see the light" of the Qu'ran. My point from the beginning was that Bible does, in fact, contain the things in it that AronRa points out. And they are not pretty.

Not much I can do if you think my reply is "bogus" but thats cool. Hmm good point about a muslim saying what I said however that wouldnt really mean anything to me if such a situation arose. I believe islam and allah are both false and that the Bible is absolute truth (dispute that all you want, my mind won't change the same way yours won't). I've read that allah might actually be some kind of moon god or something like that but I never dove deep into it since I really don't care. I might attempt to read the Quran again though just so I can see for myself what it says (same thing I do when it comes to the Bible).Youre right one does not simply "flip a switch on" when it comes to Christianity. God has to draw a person to Him and open his/her eyes so to speak. I never claimed that what this guy said is in the bible is not in the bible lol he has what seems to be a good amount of knowledge of its contents (just like a lot of atheists) but like I already said lacks understanding of it (some of the things he mentioned here and there were not pretty like you said). "Lean not on your own understanding" is in the Bible for a reason. All he and many others, even christians, do is go off their own understanding of the book instead of praying that God will give them understanding of its contents (in the case of believers) or asking someone to explain scripture to them or look it up themselves (in the case of nonbelievers and also believers since Im quick to look up the meaning of scriptures). Being deeply immersed in church means nothing. Anyone can take up space on a pew (a lot of church going folk do exactly that which is one reason I don't like going to church). Furthermore people should reevaluate why they even consider themselves christians. I feel like a lot of people go with it simply because its how they were raised a.k.a "mommy and daddy said its right" (now THAT is bogus right there lol). They don't really have a relationship with God. Not saying this is the case with all christians however it is the case with a good handful of them. Its not Gods job to convince anyone of anything. The Creator bowing down to the authority of the created would be more than ridiculous (and quite funny as well). Also everyone is not going to believe, the Bible says that most people won't actually.

Whenever marriage comes into conversation, They constantly quote Genesis with "man and wife become one flesh" and Jesus and Paul say, "only one wife" (Paul actually said not to get married at all, unless you absolutely had to). No matter how many times you point out all of the Biblical figures all having multiple wives... they respond, "But that was the Old Testament!" I keep trying to point out that Jesus and Paul were both apocalyptic prophets that thought the world was going to end in their own day...

There are a fair few examples of New Testament teachings of Jesus where actually said stuff that reinforced the OT (e.g. killing your son for striking you or adultery) or said that the OT was god's word and humans shouldn't try and interpret the teachings, just follow them Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Luke 16:17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for one dot of the Law to become void and if OT is to be left behind, then how can the anti-gay stuff in the OT be used...

(Leviticus 20:9) If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death. Reuben John Unicruz Leviticus holds the laws Jesus wants Christians to follow? You know what the other laws listed before and after Leviticus 20:13? The killing of homosexuals is condoned and encouraged in the wonderful laws of Leviticus. Leviticus 20:13 clearly states "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Well there you have it, Homosexuality is wrong, and they must pay the ultimate price... IN THE NAME OF GOD!!! Who else shouldn't people do? Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19) Don't have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19) Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19) Don't cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27) Any person who curseth his mother or father, must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9) Have you ever done that? If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10). If a man sleeps with his father's wife... both him and his father's wife is to be put to death. (Leviticus 20:11) If a man sleeps with his wife and her mother they are all to be burnt to death. (Leviticus 20:14) If a man or woman has sex with an animal, both human and animal must be killed. (Leviticus 20:15-16). If a man has sex with a woman on her period, they are both to be "cut off from their people" (Leviticus 20:18) Psychics, wizards, and so on are to be stoned to death. (Leviticus 20:27) If a priest's daughter is a whore, she is to be burnt at the stake. (Leviticus 21:9) People who have flat noses, or is blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God (Leviticus 21:17-18) Anyone who curses or blasphemes God, should be stoned to death by the community. (Leviticus 24:14-16) I guess we all are boomed at some point. :)

The first minute nails it - KABOOM! - and then the last minute seals it! - magnificent cogent presentation - and with no possibility of rebuttal - unless with the use of the old dishonest chestnut "the bible does not mean that" or "it's taken out of context" - excellent

@Luka Merkviladze - religious people are NOT suppressed. The only thing you are not allowed to do is FORCE other people to adopt your religious beliefs and dogma. Ironically, the only people who actually protect and apparently support pedophilia is the clergy. Just like a typical religious zealot, you state nothing factual.

This is how the today's evangelical Christians have changed or added on a few subnotes to what was once the 10 commandments. 1. You shall have no other God’s before me. (Unless he's been anointed by God than he's a vessel for god) 2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven images.(unless it's an image of a person that has been anointed by God) 3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.(as long as you ask for forgiveness afterwords) 4. Remember the Sabbath day and keep it Holy.(mostly stays the same depending on who you're talking to) 5. Honor your father and mother(even if they abuse you for in God's eye's it's your fault you're being abuse) 6. Thou shalt not kill(without cause) 7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.(Unless you're the pastor or authority of power than this rule does not apply) 8. Thou shalt not steal.(but if you're above 1% of the rich than you can steal and swindle as much as you want) 9. Thou shall not bear false witness.(unless you're Donald Trump or any other mega pastor than you can bear false witness as much as you want for God will forgive you) 10. You shall not covet.(unless you think you deserve it more because you're ordain by God and deserve everything) Evangelicals will always find a reason to break every commandments

What the heck are you talking about? This is all rubbish. Its just scoffing. There isn't any truth in it. As an example, just because there are pastors out there that violate their marriage vowels that doesn't mean "evangelicals will always find reason to break every commandment." What stupidity.

Juxtavarious The Catholic church is just like any other religion ever. Religions exist to legitimize in divine terms whatever the rulling classes think or do. That's why religions change so much in space and time. People change, gods are manmade, therefore gods change.
