The Central Nervous System: The Brain and Spinal Cord
The nervous system is extremely complicated, but we should definitely know the basics, so let's dive in! It is comprised of two main divisions, the central nervous system, and the peripheral nervous system. The first of these is made up of the brain and spinal cord, and since the human brain is literally the most complicated known object in the universe, we will just cover some introductory concepts. For more information on the brain, check out the upcoming biopsychology course! Otherwise just watch this for a few tidbits.

Just wanted to send a big thank you for making all of this content! I always wished I would have had the opportunity to take Anatomy and Physiology in college, but these videos help make up for that. Very excited to keep learning!

Thanks for these videos Professor Dave. I am a first year nursing student and these are helping me study for my midterm in a couple of days. I have been struggling a lot with anatomy and physiology but these videos seem to be helping me much more than my long lectures and hundreds of slides. Thanks and hopefully they help me raise my grades !

I think this is one of the best videos on youtube about the CNS. Thanks!
Your method of teaching is amazing, thank you. To the point, foundation first, building up.
your videos perfectly understood with just basic knowledge. really some of the best quality content i've seen on youtube and i've seen a lot of educational videos

I agree. My Instructor plunges in deep, hard, fast where you can hardly process or retain information.
Thank you for this! It's been a big help with the Human Anatomy stuff we've been doing in my science class.
You and AK Lectures are my favorite science channels.
Thank you for nurturing our knowledge
Im hyped for bio-psych lectures coming to this channel.

I think this is absolutely wonderful, particularly the part about motor homunculus! :)
Hi Professor Dave! First, a big thank you for making all these amazing, elucidative videos that help me learn. But- please correct me if I'm wrong!- for the diagram where you showed different colored areas of the brain, I feel it's better that it is flipped horizontally to show the left hemisphere- Broca's and Wernike's areas reside there, rather than on the right hemisphere?
That beat that drops at the end of each video is pure fire
Great tutorial! Thanks. I am in massage therapy and this is very relevant for me!
he explains well and gives great information

How could you explain so well in so little time!!!!?
Owen’s CC students: 21. Functions are sensory and motor 22. 12, 31 23. Cerebral hemispheres, diencephalon, brain stem, cerebellum 24. Gyri, sulci 25. Frontal, parietal, temporal, occipital, insula 26. Regulates body temperature, sleep cycles, and hunger/thirst 27. Midbrain, pons, medulla 28. Dura mater > Arachnoid mater > Pia mater 29. Cerebrospinal fluid 30. White matter
Excellent explanation!
Great video !!!
Thanks for making such a nice video Very clear and understandable
I went through some of the comments and couldn't find a mention to this, so I'll make it mine. You're showing the right side of the brain. Broca's and Wernicke's areas were identified on the left side. I am not saying there aren't analogous regions on either side, just referring to the inaccuracy of calling out these areas on the right hemisphere, when they were identified in the left one. Otherwise, a nice lecture on the subject.
Very good and very understood. Thanks a lot teacher.
thanks a ton for this wonderful video, very knowledgeable.
Thank you!
Thanks prof Dave. Im in Uganda learning from your tremendous work. A big thanks bro
You should make a video on how the spine grows from birth to adult. It’s always confused me on how such a complicated geometric structure grow
Best video ever on brain
Thank you..very helpful indeed.. will recommend..
Thank you for this video.

Please explain concept of action potential in neuron that is impulse conduction

i have a whole tutorial on that, go through the rest of my anatomy & physiology playlist
Correct my understanding if wrong: the size of your eyes, nose, tongue, lips and hands is directly proportional to the number of neurons controlling them? Your lips are larger than Kylie's because more number of neurons are controlling yours than Kylie's are?
3:19 great for nevrogli / glial C.
Thank
thanks for this video #ProDAVE
Very good it's counting
And now I have a chance of passing my A&P exam this week.
Thanks from a UG psychology student..
I noticed that you say 'the left-brain right-brain personality type is a complete myth' It's actually not. For example, the extent to which your language processing is lateralized to either hemisphere is known to correlate to higher prevalence of ADHD, dyslexia and personality disorders. And there's plenty more examples to illustrate that left-brain/right-brain dominance is related to behaviours that can be considered to be party of our personality.
Was watching some old vids and I've realized Professor Dave is cuter

i am happy of following ur vedeos, but the words u talk wrriten at the bottom covers the image.
Some how I already knew that the left side of my brain controls the right side of my body and the right side of my brain controls the left side of my body. Idk I can just feel it
0:58 Lemme guess, we figured out what each area of the brain does by mucking about with people's brains, didn't we?
