One of the most underrated shows ever. The best part is I didnt hate any character, not even Rogers. Perfect show. Miss it.
@badbot223

Thats what I hate about most shows. It is very childish. Thay make completely hateful characters and when one dies, another one even worse comes and you see yourself just looking foward to see that character dying and not fully enjoying the story. Rogers is not THE VILLAIN, he is the actual governor of the island that was taken by force in first place. If wasnt by Flint, the island wouldve been civilized again by peaceful methods. You really cant hate no one in that show. Everybody got they reasons. Every actor fits its characters.

@@MossXM was she the tall skinny spy? Dam cant recall who Eleanor was...if that is who your referring to I agree she was cringe-y but she was slightly confusing at first. Like she just came out of left field from no-where. But then it was necessary or she was important for the position she played or role rather. So much in that show was lessons to see because of no TECHNOLOGY [make sense] it was all done old school starting with the INFLUENCERS [i.e.SHiLLS] used to sway the street view for each captain for one example. Well, the characters like Charles, Anne, Blackbeard, and Calico Jack were real historical pirates with real deaths after varying lengths of careers in piracy, so there is some following of historical accuracy. Though of course, the show took some creative license with how they interacted and how their deaths went. A little sad they didn't have Mary Read as well, since she did work with Anne and Jack in piracy, but I can't complain about the real pirates they did include. According to what I looked up, actual Charles Vane was hung in Port Royal rather than Nassau. But, yeah, I really liked his character too and was sad to see him go. *It's sooo weird to hear the actor's real voice rather than Vane's accent, by the way. Lolz*

@tipsywoodpecker

My two favorite periods as well! But I don't really understand your question. What was before the Vikings...where? The Roman Empire never reached Scandinavia and collapsed in 5th century AD. The first Viking raid on England (the Lindisfarne raid) was in 793. Prior to that vikings were just scattered tribes of farmers, they didn't sail anywhere and they were, well, pretty boring. If you are looking for some interesting legends and movies to watch, I suggest you look up the Ninth Legion. This was a Roman legion tasked with conquering Scotland in 2 century AD but it never succeeded and mysteriously perished. There are some good movies on the subject, namely Centurion, directed by Neil Marshall (who directed some of the Black Sails episodes as well). Fun fact: after romans failed to conquer Scotland they built a wall which separated it with England and it spread across the whole island. This wall became the inspiration for the Wall in Game of Thrones, and some parts of it survive to this day. Neil Marshall got his idea for Centurion after visiting them.

+Remc0 Schedel reasonable argument but , You don't have to be a part of something for it to wear off on you or have repercussions on your lifestyle. Example, You say that you specifically never whipped a single black man onto a boat. I believe you but that's not to say that perhaps a member of your family did if they owned slaves and while this is NOT your fault, you directly hold those prejudices that your family has passed down if any. Of course not the stories of it, but the ideals of hate, frustration, complete indifference to those different than you. Ask yourself honestly, what's the first thing your mind jumps to when you see people acting and speaking differently than you do culturally. The first trait you may have learned is "Im better than them" or "Oh my God these people again, I hate dealing with them they're all the same." OR If you're with friends you probably crack snarky jokes as this is also a common inherited trait. That is all directly related to the ideals passed down from slavery.
@_hencethename
8 жыл бұрын
+Remc0 Schedel To your second point you have to earn respect not just get it. What would people culturally different than yourself have to do to earn this respect? How did you earn yours? or was it given already? picture this. imagine your family were beaten, and sold as property...your mom or sister standing there dirt naked in a world they don't know taken from the rest of your family. Why? Because it suits someone else's needs and because you would be considered lower than dirt. now picture your children's children's children's children's children's children's great grandchild is finally emancipated after 500 years All is well now right? Well not really. Once your relatives were freed they could not buy trade own or settle on land. They were also still not allowed to vote themselves, have hunting supplies on them nor go to schools to learn anything. Now say to that distant relative you have to earn respect. Pick yourself up and get out there and put some effort into it. The only thing Your relative could do was either go back and work as "servant" or steal, pilfer, or beg. This dilemma and emotional scarring will then be sent down 4 more generations (1965) after that until finally your relatives are able to attend reasonable schools. You see that earning any kind of respect was and, because of inherited prejudices, is still next to impossible to do. Remember your relative couldn't even be seen with tools to build a boat to sail away on and good luck trying to hire one with your skin color and no money. Most time they were picked up and sent to prison. Which is a whole other problem. Really try to understand this because only then can we heal this rift in our modern society as you rightly put it. We must have it in our minds to treat people and think of people as brothers and sisters of this earth even if they're not like us. For if we can't do that what are we but lost.

monokhem Black people could not own slaves. They could not vote. They could not own land or property, they could not intermarry. There are many independent articles that bend truths give alternate facts claiming Blacks bought sold, and traded slaves more than white slave owners. And they were more to blame for the slave trade even happening. This is called cognitive dissonance theory. More simply, consistency theory. Example. A doctor illegally experimenting on babies knows its wrong but, for consistency sake, He claims its for the greater good. I'm helping people. Same thing with prejudice. "I nor my family ever owned slaves but black people sure did. The whole reason we went to Africa was to spread goodwill and provide schools and opportunity for a chance at a better life in America, its black peoples' disobedience and defiance, their disrespect and unwillingness to compromise that caused all these problems, but what can you do that's just the way they are." See everything becomes right when people change their consistencies to match their promoted conduct.

monokhem This blind hatred for me is exactly my point. Instead of trying to heal together and admit to errors predominantly on one side but not entirely one sided you would push further apart. Every time someone would like to treat that traumatic experience for both whites and blacks called slavery, you seem unwilling to even discuss it maturely. I have not been disrespectful towards you this whole time nor name called. Have I stated harsh realities, yes, but not in an effort to incite anger, but rather in an effort to heal. As simple as with two fighting siblings for example. The incident has to be revisited in order to heal. If it is not trauma however small begins to mold itself as hatred, fighting, name calling etc. In reality some spanish, portuguese, and british ancestors took African people against their will and beat them into submission. I know its is hard to swallow. We need to be comfortable hearing these truths instead of one of us becoming angered and name-calling. I would be naive to think no black person ever did anything wrong ever, I'm not saying they're flawless. But they are not the main cause of 300 years of slave trading. Lets just be honest and stop all the name calling.
