The 1985 SK-5 sampler keyboard from Casio is certainly not their best product of the era...

I like how this keyboard has 24 samples, of which 10 are for beats, and two are for internal-use-only notification sounds. And out of the 12 remaining available samples, someone in charge went like "Okay, we got our bases covered with piano, vibraphone, trumpet, flute and pipe organ and two bongos. We also got chorus, which sounds a bit weird but oh well... But what for the rest? Harp? Violin? Maybe guitar, saxophone, cello, clarinet, pan flute or harmonica? Hm, I don't know. I'm stomped. You know what, let's put 'dog', 'surf', 'lion' and 'laser gun' and call it a day."

I remember playing with one of these as a kid - if you sampled the shortest of sound - like flicking your fingernail on the mic and set it to loop, you could get some basic static waveforms out of it

How many note polyphony did this beast have? I had a similar era rebadge (realistic) sampling keyboard (concertmate-500 that was a rebadged Casio SK-1) that had 4 note, unless you were using the 'beats' then it went down to 1... It only allowed a single 2.3 ish second sample, but it did have FM synthesis - but had a suprisingly awkward interface to set up using button and key presses...
