The case for alien AI | James Evans | TEDxChicago

James Evans asks a critical question as we ponder our AI-driven future: "What AI do we deserve?" He then takes us on a journey making the case that alien intelligence and thus alien AI that we grow and care for will be the most impactful on us as a human society. On the way, he also outlines the surprising science behind his lab's AI models and algorithms: That diversity is at the heart of the greatest scientific discoveries.

Yeah. The only problem is, we've been dummying down our youth w fit-in-the-box academics so we get a tiny % of those young ppl who will be able to carry diverse thinking fwd to prevent an AI revolution against the human race. If we fashioned our schools to teach at a self-pace and focus on fostering unique capabilities we wldnt be so scared of AI.

That is why I had difficulty envisioning going from high school to college it was like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire. I hated how the "school system" dumbed me down and forced me into the box...

You dont need AI for innovation. Although, it would not hurt. Look at who is not raising their voice to be heard. Listen to those who have not been listened to.

I have said for years that automation (& now AI) that merely mimics a human operator is the dumbest automation possible. It's like setting up the bouncing woodpecker to keep pressing a key.. when the "true" solution is to find the system that needs the input and re-program the service to account for that need. The vast majority of today's human jobs exist merely because no-one has bothered to re-write a more effective service. Wasting resources on mimicking a human only exacerbates our wealth divide since it solidifies the current economic model while removing the ability of the average human to participate in it. (Any IT worker who's ever wanted to fix a bug in a program but can't get downtime to roll out the fix knows what I mean by solidifying the problem.) We ***_have_*** to set AI to work at redesigning our assumed defaults, dreaming up new systems of operation, something like AI-controlled agriculture that doesn't need a salary and can thus provide all the world's food literally for free. Find the points of greatest potential benefit and even if the AI itself can't fix the problem, it might at least tell us where to focus our energies.

@@MorganHyde-ie5ru i want this because, I can all right see this to be a strong possibility in happening. We alright have the first human brain interface, so soon alright a later some is going to train a ai, on human brain. And alright right now we only have top down level ai. I can see as a strong possibility that someday we have a bottom up ai. That close to human maybe next anytime soon, but probably with In 50-100 years and I see just a inedible possibility with the incredible leap of ai that we have just gotten with the last few year all thou most of the ai we have now are top down. I believe we get bottom up ai similar to human brain or even human soul.
